Thanks for the heads up!!!

hayley3 Contributor

What is the current percentage?

I voted this morning but we were still way ahead.

home-based-mom Contributor

We have 57% of the vote as of 6:48 AM PST. That is approximately 331,000 of the 580,700 that have been cast. Pets have just under 156,800, less than half of what we have. I think we are still OK! ;)

But keep voting! Don't slack off! :o:P:D

I just voted again, I guess we need to keep voting daily

:D I have my husband voting every day from his office--he emailed me earlier with the news that we had slipped a little. I just voted again, up to 57%.

I voted from almost all of my coworkers computers this morning. :) I will vote again at home too.

I'm not sure we should be voting multiple times... Seems a tad skewed...

I love it. B) I've voted from every computer in our building (on a daily basis) ours at home and I keep bugging everyone I know to go vote again and again. I think my friends are going to hate me!

My work computer lets me vote as many times as I can sit there and hit refresh.....!!!

Yeah, It's great for them to see there's an interest in it, but it won't do much good if they won't keep publishing it because not enough people buy it.

My guess is if they did do this they would publish it as a special issue, maybe twice a year. Or possibly even have it as a supplemental, polybagged with one of their other relevant publications. I think it would take a lot more than voting on a blog to convince them to spend millions of dollars to do this. None the less... I'm voting :)

Wouldn't you buy it if it was an outstanding magazine and delivered on time...........plus, you could probably get it at boarders or other bookstores.

I've had so much trouble getting those other 2 magazines that have been talked about on the forum.

I wouldn't be voting or spending so much time spreading the word if i wasn't going to support it.........THAT'S ASSUMING IT'S A OUTSTANDING ACCURATE MAGAZINE........WHICH I WOULD ASSUME IT WOULD BE WITH HER RESOURCES.

That's why I kind of wish they would have done the voting differently, 1 vote per person, in order to get an accurate percentage for each market, interest group.

I would purchase it but probably at a bookstore first to see what the actual content is.

Yeah, that's true. A person who prefers one of the other ideas might vote for it once, but I doubt they would be passionate enough about it to vote multiple times. (I mean, how many people would desperately beg their friends to vote for an online Martha Stewart scrapbook, even if they might buy it later? LOL)

You have a point about the passion. I LOVE scrapbooking but I wouldn't keep voting for it. I LOVE my animals but I'm not looking for another pampered pup gadget. I LOVE decorating but the market is already overloaded...but I NEED more allergy resources. I am passionate about that. I only know of 1 other allergy mag with recipes out there and they have been down a while. Many of the allergy cookbooks are not that impressive - I know I wouldn't serve guests most of those meals.

Based on Martha's reputation I must assume a publication she would put out would have meals I could serve to our "normal diet" guests. I would assume it wouldn't be "frumpy" as some of the other guides are. I am passionate about getting my hands on something like that.

I would hope the magazine would have a lot of substantial, cutting-edge information and not just glitzy ads. I recently subscribed to Martha Stewart Living and was extremely disappointed with the first issue I received. It has very little practical, useable content and a TON of ads.

I agree about the difficulty getting the other two allergy magazines. I have literally never seen either of them in any of the major bookstores or grocery stores in my area. I would also hope that a new magazine would spend time on multiple allergy issues as well as just gluten. There are so many cookbooks and gluten free publications that I can't use at all.

I doubt it will happen, but it would also be great if they could swing a monthly publication. Maybe there's not that much to say, but quarterly or twice a year is just too sparse to be any fun.

home-based-mom Contributor
Yeah, It's great for them to see there's an interest in it, but it won't do much good if they won't keep publishing it because not enough people buy it.

I was thinking for the past couple of days that to prove our points we would all not only need to subscribe, but then pass each issue on to "someone who needs it" such as a doctor, dentist, restaurant manager, major food manufacturer, grocery store, school, neighbor, etc.

If there are no magazine sales, there will be no magazine.

I think it is worth voting and at least getting the chance to see what it would be like. After all, the girl who pitched the idea was a Celiac herself. From my experience it can't be any worse then the photoless black and white, $40 ingredient Gluten Free books I have seen. Maybe if those who are voting support it and write to the company with ideas and tips it will make a difference. And, I don't think a company such as Martha Stewart Living would produce something unprofitable or unfounded. The best in the industry would be creating a magazine like this. I agree too, with giving it to loved ones and professionals. Besides 1 in 133, that is a great deal, and that is just Celiac, and if there is one thing I have found, it is that we are used to digging for good info. and resources, so people will find it. Not to mention product lines and food suppliers cannot keep up with the demand for organic lines, lactose free lines, healthy living lines, the whole industry is moving in this direction.

Did my daily vote at 5 AM today and have to report that the site no longer gives a percentage of each category of votes....somehow someway they must be on this forum noticing that we're talking about the vote percentages and they took that part of their site.....

As to the pets - there are a couple of great magazines already out there: Dog Fancy and Cat Fancy magazines which do an excellent job already. I wonder if there are more gluten free people than pets in this country?

pixiegirl Enthusiast

It didn't work correctly for me this morning. It use to show me the percentages, this morning it just said, thank you for voting.

I agree with the post above, there are a lot of great animal magazines out there already and the AKC breed organizations often have their own specific breed magazine. Also from a business standpoint I don't believe the number of dog and cat owners is growing in any great way, I tend to think its fairly steady. However the number of people with food issues is growing hugely, every single day (I'm sorry to say). So you'd have a growing audience with this one and if you look at the numbers for food issues, allergies, diseases involving special diets, wow its a huge market share.

Just my thoughts!

Susan

Thanks for the list too makes me realise why I still get symptoms after cutting gluten , all that reading has just made sense to why I'm still struggling , thankyou Scott Adams very insightful , I've been baking to and there is xanthum gum in the flour , I understand now why I still have issues with that too, and ive had to cut dairy also , i had a terrible flare few months ago and my throat also was very irritable and I had sinuses issues all makes sence 👍
    • nanny marley
Thankyou yes I read up on it beforehand , because or my trapped nerve when I have a bowel flare up it's impossible to keep still  which I will have to do for the MRI ,and it's so painful , and I know if this is what I'm thinking it to be it will cause me terrible issues , sometimes I get to the point where I just want to diagnose myself and act accordingly, because I've been at this year's , and I clearly have all the symptoms , it's so frustrating when you have all this going in and still feel no further ahead 😳

It looks like "mannite" is another name for "mannitol": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mannitol You are correct that it can trigger IBS-like symptoms, as we recently did an article on this: I'm not sure if there is a way around this, as it is likely needed for the test. Perhaps contact your doctor to see if there might be an alternative?
    • nanny marley
Oral drink: You will be given a solution of mannitol mixed with water to drink over a period of about 30-60 minutes this is what it says it is ,?
