Please keep in mind I do not know what I am doing! I would love to have a picture of something by my name. I have figured out this is called a avatar. How do I get one? I googled avatar and still could not figure it out. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,

I had a hard time figuring it out at first too. If you just want to use one of the avatars available on the site, then I can help you. I have had difficulty with uploading one of my own photos for use as an avatar so I stopped trying. (I did finally get it to work today. My old computer wouldn't let me add this "family portrait" that my daughter drew last year. Not bad for a 6 year old!)

Here is what you do:

Click on the link near the top of the page that says "My Controls".

Then click on the link on the left side bar that says "Edit Avatar Settings".

Scroll down the page and select one from the pre-installed avatars. There are three sections you can choose from, so go through them and pick you favorite. Then just click the button under the one that you like and click on "Use Selected Avatar".

It should show up next to your posts after that.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you can't make it work.

Hey, you may be able to help me...I have been unsuccessfully trying to put my own picture on my profile. I keep being told that I have not been given permission (?!) by the board to enable this. Do you know what's up? My pic is not too big, and I've tried to do this under "edit avatar settings" and "change personal photo"...

jerseyangel Proficient

You can't use the personal photo setting--I understand it's been disabled. For your avatar, did you try cropping the picture? I had to bring the edges in on mine and play with it several times before it finally took.

Rachel--24 Collaborator

Is your pic the right type of file? I had some problems with that at first. I had to change the file type in order for it to take.

Thanks for your suggestions, I'm just gonna try them...I DID crop my pic quite a bit, but I'll crop it more. As for file type, it's a JPG, which is supposed to be fine, but I can change that, too...(if I can figure out how to do that...computer idiot, here...)..

jerseyangel Proficient

JPG is fine--that's what mine was. Try bringing the picture in from the sides--as much as you can and still see the subject--that's what finally did it for me.

Hey, Patti,

Thanks a lot! I apparently got the pic on my profile...just made it a little smaller like you said...so hopefully it will be on this post!

jerseyangel Proficient

elye--Ya did it!! And such a cute picture :) .

I'm having a problem updating my avatar picture. I tried to update it last Friday from my home computer, and all of our home computers show the new picture with my posts. However, my work computer is still showing the old picture. Do have any ideas how to fix that?

Rachel--24 Collaborator

Try hitting F5 and it sould fix the problem.

I learned that trick from celiac3270. :D

cgilsing Enthusiast

Thanks! It worked!

slpinsd Contributor

how do i contact a site administrator so that i can post a personal photo? it says not enabled.

Rachel--24 Collaborator

You cannot use that option. You can post an avatar but the personal photo function is not enabled.

slpinsd Contributor

ok, darn! I'm not Derek Zoolander, I just like him a lot :)

I, too, cannot upload any photo at all - either under the AVATAR setting or the UPLOAD PHOTO setting. Can we fix this? it doesn't seem to matter what I try - cannot put a photo of my doggies on there - - what should I do??? :o

Rachel--24 Collaborator

You can only use the change avatar setting. What message are you getting when you try to put your doggie pic up? Is the pixel size too big?

Hi Rachel - here's the message I'm getting:

You are not allowed to upload that type of file as an avatar or personal photo

I don't think it's too big, 681 bytes, but will investigate.... heck, I'm practically Amish when it comes to computers, it's really like an alien in my home and as long as everything's working fine, we get along, but, I don't really know what I"m doing at all! It did let me load a photo before, but not now.

Jnkmnky Collaborator

I don't know how to make the pictures I took smaller to fit as my avatar. Anyone know how to do it?

Rachel--24 Collaborator

I only know how to do it with my photo editing software. The one I mainly use is Adobe. Do you have any photo software? Maybe theres another way to do it but thats all I know.

Canadian Karen Community Regular

I have Kodak Easyshare, and when I save the photos, I can choose whichever size I want..... Other than that, I have no idea!

Hugs!

Karen

Jnkmnky, you can do it with any photo editing software. I'm most familiar with Adobe, but if you're on a Windows-based pc, you have access to a program called Photo Editor. Open an image in that program, then from the menu choose Image>Resize. Every program will work something like that, just the menus will be different. We need to know what you have to work with.

I'm trying to do it, but I can't figure it out. Nevermind.

Looking for help sourcing gluten-free products that do not contain potato or corn derived ingredients. I have other autoimmune conditions (Psoriatic Arthritis and Sjogrens) so I’m looking for prepared foods as I have fatigue and cannot devote a lot of time to baking my own treats.

I am so sorry you're going through this. It's completely understandable to feel frustrated, stressed, and disregarded after such a long and difficult health journey. It's exhausting to constantly advocate for yourself, especially when you're dealing with so many symptoms and positive diagnoses like SIBO, while still feeling unwell. The fact that you have been diligently following the diet without relief is a clear sign that something else is going on, and your doctors should be investigating other causes or complications, not dismissing your very real suffering.

It is just so sad that health care in the United States has come to this.  Health insurance should be available to everyone, not just the healthy or the rich.  My heart goes out to you.  I would not hesitate to have the test and pay for it myself.  My big concern would be how you could keep the results truly private.  I am sure that ultimately, you could not.  A.I. is getting more and more pervasive, and all data is available somewhere.  I don't know if you could give a fake name, or pay for your test with cash.  I certainly would not disclose any positive results on a private insurance application.  As I understand it, for an official diagnosis, an MD needs to review your labs and make the call.  If you end up in the ER, or some other situation, just request a gluten free diet, and say it is because you feel better when you don't eat gluten.      Hang in there, though.  Medicare is not that far away for you, and it will remove a lot of stress from your health care concerns.  You will even be able to "come out of the closet" about being Celiac!

Yes, I've posted a few times about two companies: Request a Test and Ulta Labs. Also, pretty much we can all request any test we want (with the possible exception of the N protein Covid test and I'm sure a couple of others) with Lab Corp (or Pixel by Lab Corp) and Quest. I much prefer Lab Corp for their professionalism, ease of service and having it together administratively, at least in DC. And just so you know, Request a Test uses Lab Corp and Quest anyway, while Ulta Labs uses only Quest. Ulta Labs is cheaper than Request a Test, but I am tired of dealing with Quest, so I don't use them so much.

PS - I think you meant this site, but I don't believe it has been updated in years: http://glutenfreedrugs.com/ so it is best to use: You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/
