I'm in Oxford/Brandon area. (Just north of DTE)

Hi! I'm near Lakeside Mall--Clinton Township. Warren's just a jog down Schoenner from here :)

Mommida--do you ever go to Pine Knob Golf Course?

mommida Enthusiast

I don't have the patience for golf. I'm sure I would be like a Happy Gilmore if I went out on a course. ;)

I still drive into the Warren area for doctor appointments. I used to live right by Lakeside Mall. I didn't even have to take a main road to get there. I just drove through the subdivision and entered the parking lot next to McDonald's.

Hee--me neither for golf (only I'd be more like a Bill Murray).

I asked because of a past connection I have there--I did their PR when they re-opened the mansion to the public in 2006.

I know exactly where you lived--it's right up the road from me. This area has changed so drastically you might not recognise it of you've been away for long.

Do you remember "The Silo" on Hayes?

mommida Enthusiast

I loved the silo! I remember looking up and spinning, just to see if I could walk straight after.

I used to live on Saal rd. Remember that cow that would get loose and cause a commontion?

I drive out there for my kids Pediatrician's office. One office is on Hayes in Clinton Twp., the other office is on Hoover in Warren.

OK, If I ever have to go golfing ~ I'll only go if you come with me!

Was your peds. office on the east side of Hayes, s. of Canal, by the car wash? My SIL was a medical assistant there until a few months ago.

Our first apartment after we got married was at Ashgrove, directly across the street from the old SILO.

OK, you're on for 18 holes, but get ready to laugh. I am an eejit of the highest order. I'll probably flip the cart.

When I worked for them we spent a July 4th there on the lake off the course and watched the fireworks the owner put on. The Pat Benetar concert was going on at DTE (the back of the stage pavilion backs up to the golf course), so we got a free show and they got free fireworks. The owner even got me backstage passes to the Tom Petty/Stevie Nicks concert a few years ago. It was great fun.

PM me--let's chat.

Macomb pediatrics?

I just sent SIL an e-mail to find out.

Poor Daphnie--we kind of shanghied her post

Well I know there are more of us from this area. ;)

lol, some women crave chocolate I get non-food items!

mommida Enthusiast

Hopefully the anemia will resolve soon, and there will be no pica.

Interesting that you mention chocolate!!?

Have you ever seen the movie "Like water for Chocolate"? I think the sister character had Celiac. The end of the movie shows the main character eating matches. It's pretty slow, but I did laugh my tush off about the knitting for sexual frustration and the scene of this long knit piece trailing behind a moving car.

dtgirl Rookie

no, I have not sounds interesting!

I recently moved to MI and I must say, the people here are so friendly.

I don't travel too far out of my area. The furthest I go is to Mejiers on 16 and Van Dyke. I wish I lived closer to the areas that have a lot of gluten free friendly foods. Where is this bakery? If I ever go out that way, I might check it out.

I think the bakery you are referring to is Celiac Specialties in Chesterfield Township on Jefferson. You can get some of their products at Lifesmart Foods on Hall Rd (M-59) between Schoenner and M-53. Vince & Joe's also carries their products, but Vince & Joe's have their own gluten free baked goods that they make right there in their bakery and they are MUCH better and far less expensive (and nicer, too). There are Vince & Joe's on 25 Mile in Macomb Twsp. and on Garfield Rd. in Clinton Twsp. My daughter has eaten several of their gluten-free baked goods and has not reacted to them.

In any case, they are all well worth a trip. You can buy many products frozen, or bring them home and freeze them--they will be fine.

Also, G F Cucina's Restaurant on Mound between 16 Mile and 17 Mile roads is AWESOME!!!! They are CSA certified for their entirely gluten free menu, and the food is better than you can get at most restaurants--very reasonably priced.

**I probably sound like a Macomb County ad rep or something, but it's only because I have tried them all and am a loyal customer to those who don't poison my kid. We are truly grateful for establishments who are educating themselves to the needs of a celiac family, and who strive to maintain the stringent quality needed to make safe products. So I will give them all high marks whenever I can ;)

welcome everyone! nice to see other michiganders around. I will sometime check out these places, I live sooo far from everywhere. Livonia is like a day trip for me.

Thank you for that list of restaraunts and stores. I have relatives out that way, and eating out is always embarassing to bring my lunchbox. Now I want to go visit the relatives just so I can try the restaraunts and bakeries.

Anyone know of any Asian Markets around here? I haven't found any and I want cheap flour! Even a middeastern Market would be nice. I think they have special flours too.

mommida Enthusiast

Celiac Specialties or maybe Specialty in Chesterfield township.

They have THE BEST gluten free doughnuts! If I remember right they are 23 mile and Jefferson.

Some of the local health food stores sell the products in the frozen food sections.

Hello everyone. Michigander here :P

Though I am closer to Flint than Detroit. Especially since I am north of Flint :)

I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.

Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you

Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.
    • Scott Adams
Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.

Hi all  I was diagnosed Coeliac a few years ago and follow a gluten free diet. The list of foods that I can eat without a problem grows shorter on a weekly basis. [I also have diabetes and asthma also].  BUT the reason I am posting this is because I seem to struggle with nausea quite a lot, which is really quite debilitating, and I was wondering if others suffer from nausea, even if following a gluten free diet.
