Gluten Free And Sugar Addiction

I'm having some trobles going gluten free because I turn to eating lots and lots of sugary things when gluten and milk are taken out of my diet. I hope this is temporary, maybe it's blood sugar going back to normal? Is this typical?

Just a thought.....Do you happen to drink lots of diet soda or eat things with lots of Nutrasweet/Aspartame?

For some, like me--a former diet pepsi addict, the artificial sweeteners make me CRAVE sugar. If I drink it, I know I'm going to be jonesing for jellybeans! I stay clear now.

You could try keeping lots of good sweet stuff like fruits and berries handy to handle those cravings instead of grabbing say a candy bar or soda.

I know this sounds weird, but a little alcohol will take the edge off my evening sugar cravings. Something like a half-glass of wine or a little scotch does the trick. Unlike sugar, I don't crave alcohol so once I've had one small drink I'm done.

I also had A LOT of sugar cravings the first 4 months after going gluten-free - and I indulged my cravings just so I wouldn't feel deprived because of not eating gluten. My indulging probably kept my cravings going longer than they should have - like most addictions. Around 4 months ago I decided I needed to cut back on the sweets, and the cravings went away - so I'm thinking it was temporary. I do still eat more sugar than I probably should, but definately not as much as before.

Thank you. I must have misinterpreted a study or something. Thank you for the clarification. Much appreciated. Almost three years into my celiac diagnosis and I'm still learning new things.

I wasn’t clear, glucagon and gadolinium were intravenous. I drank about 5 cups of the prep during 45 minutes. I feel very tired now, probably partly because I was nervous, and partly because I had to fast for 6 hours beforehand and wasn’t very hungry when I got home.

That seems at lot of solution to have put threw you when you already have bowel issues , I will phone them tomorrow because it's sorbitol I have reactions too, thankyou for the input how do you feel now ? I'm not sure I can keep still for that long with my back issues either unfortunately I didn't know it could take that long 😕

The solution I had to drink contained sorbitol and mannitol. I was in the MRI, lying on my back, for about 40 minutes. I was given glucagon partway through, and a gadolinium contrast agent. After I got home there was some diarrhea from the prep solution.
