Hi. Im a third year medical student and im currently doing a project on some of the long-term complications of coeliac disease.

Date started gluten free diet: Feb. 1989

Suffer from the following on a regular basis since starting treatment:

Constipation

Diarrhoea SOME TIMES

Abdominal pain SOME TIMES Always when accidental gluten ingestion (all 3)

Indigestion SOME TIMES

Acid reflux YES

Other related problems

Date started gluten free diet: March 3, 2004

Suffer from the following on a regular basis since starting treatment:

Constipation: no

Diarrhoea: I'd say about 40% of the time

Abdominal pain: not very often but when I get pain it is very severe

Indigestion: probably about 30% of the time

Acid reflux: no

Some of these symptoms are probably due to accidental gluten injestion although I am not sure. I have also been diagnosed with IBS induced by having celiac (which can also cause some of these symptoms). I am also lactose intolerant.

oops I put March 2005 by mistake :o I really started the diet March 2004... oh well

Suffer from the following on a regular basis since starting treatment:

Constipation - when glutened

Diarrhoea - soft, not runny, on occasion

Abdominal pain - when glutened or other intolerant food ingested

Indigestion - when glutened or other intolerant food ingested

Acid reflux - when glutened

Other related problems - most of these are when glutened:

migraine, depression, knuckle/joint pain, frustration/anger (unprovoked), brain fog

Suffer from the following on a regular basis since starting treatment:

Constipation no

Diarrhoea most of the time...finally getting a little better but bad when glutened

Abdominal pain when glutened

Indigestion no

Acid reflux rairly

Other related problems-- most of these are gone unless I'm glutened but when I do get glutened: tired, grouchy, brain fog, backache, dh rash on fingers.

Other related problems No related problems. I'm probably not much help, thankfully, because I was diagnosed early enough to avoid developing any long-term problems.

No lingering problems with digestion/bowels/gastro, etc...

Delays in speech, fine/gross motor skills. Difficulty recalling info and words in general *speech therapist says may be due to late speech*, small stature, repeating a grade in school due in large part to delays in speech and that foggy mental state Celiacs mention.

poor muscle tone (but improving)

arthralgias in back, hands, elbows mild when gluten-free, worse when "glutened"

*extreme fatigue

*change in sleep pattern (from regular/light to comatose)

Other related problems: Have become very healthy since going gluten free.

Used to suffer from:

Extreme fatigue, now I exercise regularly and lead an active lifestyle.

Brain fog

Weight gain, once weighed 250+ lbs. Now down to 170. Had numerous other health problems related to being overweight but those are gone now.

nausea, fatigue, depression, headaches, low iron (always deferred at the Red Cross for donating blood) insomnia, and poor dental health despite proper oral hygiene!

Gluten-free since 2/2004

NO PROBLEMS!!! :lol:

If accidently glutened, then extreme pain, bloating, gas, and gluten-"gurgles"--- very noisy digestion. I can hardly believe that I used to think living like that was normal. Did have early bone loss and anemia.

I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.

      I used to be able to get the Rivera yougut i havent been able to get it lately. I like getting it did say it did say gluten free. I just looking for a good yogurt that gluten free that i can add some fruit and nuts to any suggestion would be helpful  thanks
