You need to get your parents involved. You need to tell them about your fears about them putting gluten in your food. This is not a small issue. This is a BIG issue. The exposure to gluten causes your risk of long term consequences to increase. While the reaction to gluten isn't as fast acting as peanuts (and unless there is an allergy on top of the celiac) will not cause anaphalaxis, it doesn't mean it is any less important. Tell your parents. It is your parent's job to help protect you. I know it can be hard for teenagers to ask for help from their parents, but you need their help. This situation has gotten out of hand. Don't only talk to the youth minister, talk to your parents.

THANK YOU!! That's exactly what I was thinking. The youth pastor should be talking to the parents of the kids who are causing you trouble. Anyone causing trouble should not have the privilege of taking outings with a Christian-centered group. It's like rewarding bad behavior, especially when it continues after the youth pastor has talked to the offending group of kids.

When you seal your food, make sure your tape doesn't overlap perfectly. Then sign and date the tape over the overlap. If they manage to get the tape off, they won't be able to align the signature back up, and you will know if they messed with it. I am suggesting this because duct tape does actually come off pretty easy if you give it the right yank. And, you can use plastic containers with duct tape if you choose.

Good idea on the signing the tape overlaps! Why did my sneaky mind not think of that! And if you wrap the tape around the container a few times & different directions .I would think it would be hard to get it back on the same without bubbles, gaps, wrinkles, etc.

I know that despite teaching your child right from wrong it is ultimately up to them how they act when they are not with you. I hope my children would know better and would act appropriately , but there's no guarantee. If my children even thought of doing something like this to another person they would regret it big time!! As some of the other posters have stated already, what they are doing is dangerous and not to be taken lightly.

Have you ever considered attending another youth group perhaps? It doesn't sound like things have changed much since your posts last year.

I hope you can find something that works for you and also get the attention this matter deserves from the appropriate people.

Ok, I am back from my trip! I made many precautions to make sure I wouldn't get glutened! I found out on this trip that the reason everyone had been talking about glutening my food lately is because my sister put flour in my pasta sauce a year ago, but I just found out now! I was so upset. My sister told me this, and then one of my friends said "I dont think you are really as sick as you think you are Victoria, and neither does anyone else." We proceeded to have a long discussion and finally I said I am not going to argue about this anymore cuz I've already told you the truth so whether or not you believe me is up to you! She later apologized but that doesn't mean she still doesn't think that. Know what I mean? Anyway, noone glutened me on the trip. I came home safe and sound and I hope everything will be ok from now on.

I'm glad to hear your trip went well.

Your friends, and I use the word loosely, don't understand that even if you don't have an obvious reaction to gluten there is autoimmune damage being done. Remember that true friends are the ones who respect what you say. A real friend will go to great lengths to make sure you have safe food, even if eating gluten once doesn't make you obviously sick every single time it happens.

You also need to let your parents know your sister poisoned you. You may need help making sure it won't happen again.

I'm late to this thread but I remembered you from last year. I'm glad you had a good trip and didn't get sick.

It sounds like your sister and your friends are irrationally jealous of any perceived extra attention you are getting, though why anyone would be jealous of something with food problems is beyond me. Oh well. It's good you and your sister talked. Hopefully she'll have a good think about what she did, and how it is hurting you. It'll serve her right if in the future she gets diagnosed too, or her children! Not that I'd wish that on your hyptothetical future nieces or nephews, lol.

I haven't been able to read more than the first page of this topic so far as I have to go out but...while some people are appalled this is a religious group I am not. Nothing against the Bible or Churches..I'm not a christian anymore but ...some of the worst bullying i ever experienced was from kindergarten to grade 9 in a pentecostal school. No pun intended but ...thank GOD I went to a different high school after. Some of us know the theology of the bible better than others. These types of kids don't know the real meaning of "being saved". They are bullies and are not following the example of Jesus Christ. Just my two cents.

The discovery of the vitamin D receptor in multiple immune cell lineages, such as monocytes, dendritic cells, and activated T cells credits vitamin D with a novel role in modulating immunological functions and its subsequent role in the development or prevention of autoimmune diseases.  The Implication of Vitamin D and Autoimmunity: a Comprehensive Review

Definitely get vitamin D 25(OH)D.  Celiac Disease causes vitamin D deficiency and one of the functions of vitamin D is modulating the genes.  While we can survive with low vitamin D as an adaptation to living in a seasonal environment, the homeostasis is 200 nmol/L.  Vitamin D Receptors are found in nearly every cell with a nucleus, while the highest concentrations are in tissues like the intestine, kidney, parathyroid, and bone.  A cellular communication system, if you will. The vitamin D receptor: contemporary genomic approaches reveal new basic and translational insights  Possible Root Causes of Histamine Intolerance. "Low levels of certain nutrients like copper, Vitamins A, B6, and C can lead to histamine build up along with excess or deficient levels of iron. Iodine also plays a crucial role in histamine regulation."

I forgot to mention my suspicion of the high amount of glyphosate allowed to be used on wheat in USA and NZ and Australia. My weight was 69kg mid-2023, I went down to 60kg in March 2024 and now hover around 63kg (just after winter here in NZ) - wheat-free and very low alcohol consumption.

Hi Jess Thanks so much for your response and apologies for the long delay in answering. I think I must have been waiting for something to happen before I replied and unfortunately it fell off the radar... I have had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy in the meantime (which revealed 'minor' issues only). Yes I do think histamine intolerance is one of the problems. I have been lowering my histamine intake and feeling a lot better. And I do think it is the liver which is giving the pain. I am currently taking zinc (I have had three low zinc tests now), magnesium, B complex, vitamin E and a calcium/Vitamin C mix. I consciously think about getting vitamin D outside. (Maybe I should have my vitamin D re-tested now...) I am still 100% gluten-free. My current thoughts on the cause of the problems is some, if not all, of the following: Genetically low zinc uptake, lack of vitamin D, wine drinking (alcohol/sulphites), covid, immune depletion, gastroparesis, dysbiosis, leaky gut, inability to process certain foods I am so much better than late 2023 so feel very positive 🙂

Hi and thank you very much for your detailed response! I am so glad that the protocol worked so well for you and helped you to get your health back on track. I've heard of it helping other people too. One question I have is how did you maintain your weight on this diet? I really rely on nuts and rice to keep me at a steady weight because I tend to lose weight quickly and am having a hard time envisioning how to make it work, especially when not being able to eat things like nuts and avocados. In case you have any input, woud be great to hear it! Friendly greetings.
