Continuation of other "last ditch rant" post

So last week I was in the ER for right flank pain again. I thought it was my liver again since I was having so many problems with it and fats. They took a urine sample and said it looked like I had a UTI but they cultured it to be sure. So Monday the 17th they called and said it was definitely a UTI and called in some antibiotics. So I start Keflex Monday and starting Tuesday all my GI problems die down. No more gas, bloating or D/C. Reflux has even died down. So should I assume this is SIBO?

I ended my antibiotics yesterday and all my problems came back 10 fold. Joint pain, malabsorbtion, food/fat intolerances, liver pain, dry mouth, depression, gas, bloating and D/C. My GI wants me to take an HBT test and wait 2 weeks for the results before treating me with new antibiotics. I can't live like this for 2 more weeks. I can barely eat anything!! When I was on Keflex I was able to eat fats again, it was great! Now I can't. I am still waiting my DNA Stool test results that I took with my nutritionist. They come back today, maybe my GI DR will accept those results and put my back on antibiotics based on them. I am already on Theralac probiotics since April but that doesn't help either.

I hear SIBO just keeps coming back every time you kill it. This is a nightmare. What would happen if I checked myself into a hospital for depression and got put on TPN and antibiotics/probiotics? Would this all go away then? I am suffering terribly from malnutrition, my hair is falling out in huge clumps no matter how much vitamin D and others I take. What can I do??

Antibiotics kill the bacteria in your gut, both the good and the bad. You can take probiotics every day to re-establish the good bacteria. Avoiding sugars and carbs for a while would be a good idea also. I suggest you load up on probiotics and drop all sugar for a while. Several weeks at least.

I had problems with urinary tract infections, including hospitalizations since I was a child, probably due to undiagnosed celiac disease. As a teen I started drinking cranberry juice and it helped enormously to control the infections. I only had problems when I stopped drinking the juice, and I could control them again by resuming it. Here is a reference on a study.

This is good information and one which I try to tell those with UTI problems. You can also purchase cranberry capsules, which have concentrated cranberry powder, in case cranberry juice is too sweet. I have only ever had one UTI in my life and I did not even need to take an antibiotic as the capsules got rid of it. It works really well.

Ok I saw my Nutritionist today with the DNA stool results. It looks like I have a massive yeast infection in the gut. I asked him why the antibiotics made me feel so much better and he feels the probiotic I was on "theralac" was not the right one I needed and the antibiotics killed it and it made me feel better. I guess it was doing more harm then good. He put me on a regimen that follows the DNA print out. It includes all items from Standard Process vitamin line like, Gastro Fiber, Prosynbiotic, Cranberry Complex, Vitanox and Gut Flora Complex. I took my first doses about 45 minutes ago and I don't seem to be intolerant to any of them yet so I am hoping this works. He told me to expect a large herx response but to keep taking them no matter what. I guess we will see...

LittleMel....if you do have a systemic yeast infection, taking these supplements will not get rid of the problem. They may help a bit with gut balance but systemic yeast infections require a strict "no sugar" diet and an anti-fungal medication. These are just the standard supplements people sell to make a lot

of money. Natural supplements do not eradicate a yeast problem.

I have shown my GI the yeast test results but she still will not give me an Anti Fungal medicine. She wants to run more tests first. Gah~ Can this thing drag out any more!!

I know, I know....extremely frustrating. They always seem to want to run way too many tests while your suffering goes on. I am sorry and hope you get some results and what you need to feel better soon!

They need to find the reason for the UTI. Some people have reflux were some of the urine backs up inside of them instead of exiting. This can cause a UTI. In my daughter's case it was not that. It was caffeine! The caffeine was an irritant to her bladder/urethtra. Because it hurt her so much to pee, she wasn't drinking as much liquid as she should be or urinating as often as she should have. The Dr. limited her to one caffeine containing drink per day. Told her to drink a lot of water. And to switch to showers rather than baths.

Other things that can cause UTIs are diabetes and kidney problems. And then there are times when we just don't know. This happened to my friend. She wound up in the hospital with symptoms that didn't seem like a UTI. But they were.

So sorry to hear about your trouble! :-(

I would definitely look into the yeast overgrowth diet. You may need to stay on that for many years, to be honest. Some with systemic yeast infections do. Although there are even cookbooks to help with this, like 'The Yeast Connection Cookbook.'

Also, I don't know if this will help - it just has a few suggestions in general - but it might: Open Original Shared Link

Valley fever, the disease mentioned in the link, is a fungal lung infection that can become systemic. There is currently no cure for it; the best hope is to help the body fight it off so that it goes into remission, but it can re-emerge at any time. Western medicine uses some anti-fungal meds for this purpose, but the valley fever community also tries out various nutritional and food based help, as well, which the above link shows a few of. Consuming larger amounts of garlic is one of them. I know that fresh herbs, especially uncooked, have been studied and found to have slightly antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, so that might be worth adding to your food, too. Certainly won't hurt, right?

As both the yeast and the valley fever are all fungus, it might be of some use. :-)

I had a very rough month after diagnosis. No exaggeration, lost so much inflammatory weight, I looked like a bag of bones, underneath i had been literally starving to death. I did start feeling noticeably better after a month of very strict control of my kitchen and home. What are you eating for breakfast and lunch? I ignored my doc and ate oats, yes they were gluten free, but some brands are at the higher end of gluten free. Lots of celics can eat Bob's Red Mill gluten-free oats, but not me. I can now eat them, but they have to be grown and processed according to the "purity protocol" methods. I mail order them, Montana Gluten-Free brand. A food and symptoms and activities log can be helpful in tracking down issues. You might be totally aware, but I have to mention about the risk of airborne gluten. As the doc that diagnosed me warned . . Remember eyes, ears, nose, and mouth all lead to your stomach and intestines.  Are you getting any cross contamination? Airborne gluten? Any pets eating gluten (they eat it, lick themselves, you pet them...)? Any house remodeling? We live in an older home, always fixing something. I've gotten glutened from the dust from cutting into plaster walls, possibly also plywood (glues). The suggestions by many here on vitamin supplements also really helped me. I had some lingering allergies and asthma, which are now 99% gone. I was taking Albuterol inhaler every hour just to breathe, but thiamine in form of benfotiamine kicked that down to 1-2 times a day within a few days of starting it. Also, since cutting out inflammatory seed oils (canola, sunflower, grapeseed, etc) and cooking with real olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, and coconut oil, I have noticed even greater improvement overall and haven't used the inhaler in months! It takes time to weed out everything in your life that contains gluten, and it takes awhile to heal and rebuild your health. At first it's mentally exhausting, overwhelming, even obsessive, but it gets better and second nature.

Hi,  I care for my seven year old daughter with Celiac. After watching her for months, I have figured out that she has problem with two kinds of fats- animal fat and cooking oils. It basically makes her intestine sore enough that she feels spasms when she is upset. It only happens on days when she has eaten more fat than her usual every day diet. (Her usual diet has chia seeds, flaxseeds, and avocado/ pumpkin seeds for fat and an occasional chicken breast.) I stopped using cooking oils last year, and when I reintroduced eggs and dairy, both of which I had held off for a few months thinking it was an issue of the protein like some Celiac patients habe mentioned to be the case, she has reacted in the same fashion as she does with excess fats. So now I wonder if her reaction to dairy and eggs is not really because of protein but fat.   I don't really have a question, just wondering if anyone finds this familiar and if it gets better with time.  Thank you.

Hello, My name is Chanda and you are not the only one that gose through the same things. I have found that what's easiest for me is finding a few meals each week that last. I have such severe reactions to gluten that it shuts my entire body down. I struggle everyday with i can't eat enough it feels like, when I eat more I lose more weight. Make sure that you look at medication, vitamins and shampoo and conditioner also. They have different things that are less expensive at Walmart.

Thank you so much! I saw some tips around the forum to make a food diary and now that I know that the community also struggles with corn, egg and soy, the puzzle pieces came together! Just yesterday I tried eating eggs and yes, he’s guilty and charged. Those there are my 3 combo nausea troublemakers. I’m going to adjust my diet ☺️ Also thank you for the information about MCAS! I’m from South America and little it’s talked about it in here. It’s honestly such a game changer now for treatment and recovery. I know I’m free from SIBO and Candida since I’ve been tested for it, but I’m still going to make a endoscopy to test for H. Pylori and Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Thank you again!! Have a blessed weekend 🤍

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.
