  1. Open Original Shared Link Kathy, Here is a link about various blood abnormalities associated with celiac disease. It does not make it clear (from the abstract) whether 100% dietary compliance makes it better one way or the other. I'll check for other articles and post if I find some good ones. My platelets were elevated for several years and now are...
  2. I love your definition !! I agree with everyone that Tigano should bag the biopsy thing at this point and do the diet. There isn't any else to gain except maybe good health!
  3. One way docs look at the "seriousness" of diarrhea is diarrhea that wakes you up at night. I also relate this to wake up and go.....without any food or coffee,etc.. stimulating the gastrocolic reflex. Your other descriptions are on target.....however this can also be a colitis . Have you been tested yet?
  4. Been a busy couple of weeks and have missed the Forum, but I wanted to share that my brother's daughter has just been diagnosed with celiac disease. All of my remaining first line relatives have been tested, including my brother, and they have all been negative. This just goes to show the unpredictability of this condition, genetically speaking! I would imagine...
  5. I did some research on B12 levels in the past few months, and there is basically no toxic level . I believe that you have started absorbing again, and you can alternate your B12's every other day. You might request other levels be drawn of major nutrients like folic acid, iron, ferritin..all these are necessary in producing red blood cells. If iron or ferritn...
  6. Open Original Shared Link Doll, I think maybe you should read this abstract from Dr Alessio Fasano from the University of Maryland Celiac center before you close this chapter. I am no fan of Dr Fine's, but I sure am of Dr Fasano! Actually Ken Fine may be onto something, he just hasn't proven it to me yet.
  7. I am not against importing medical doctors, but it will be more difficult in the future due to increased security clearance with recent events in the UK. Maybe the doctors Debmidge has seen aren't worth the discount prices physicians are paid, but the bulk of primary care (FP's, IM's,Ped's) work hard and long hours for their reimbursement. The specialists...
  8. You might ask your doctor to check your iron and ferritin(blood iron stores) levels, as this has been implicated in Restless Leg Syndrome as well as celiac disease. A caveat is if celiac or other nonabsorbing condition is NOT present, and you are iron deficient, a thorough workup for blood loss must be done.
  9. I haven't gotten to see Sicko yet, but I will. I was never a big fan of Michael Moore's, but I applaud his efforts to bring this subject onto the big screen. Our nation MUST do something about our healthcare.I for one would not mind being a federal employee again..I used to work at the VA for 2 years when my kids were young. But what many private insured...

    ARCHIVED Gi Rant

Your GI may well need a primer course of Personality 101, but his offering of an antidepressant for irritable bowel type SYMPTOMS may well have merit. Particularly if diarrhea is a major symptom, old time generic-available trazodone in the smallest dose available had been very helpful to patients. The majority of serotonin receptors in the body are in the...
  13. Thrush can look like a red tongue, but it usually has little white specks near the ulcerations or rough spots...on the tongue or anywhere in the oral mucosa . A better med for that is Nilstat.....also Rx. Bet there are members who know of herbal/alternative therapies.
  14. Oral lesions are common to celiacs....stomatitis,glossitis,aphthous ulcers.....I believe some of it is the derangement of the mucous tissues from celiac proper, and some is a side effect of the malnutrition. Sometimes high dose B vitamins and vitamin C may help. Also when it is very painful, a mix can be made by the druggist combining equal parts liquid...
  15. So sorry,Steve! I have had zero problems with their "wet" pork ribs. Mempho is pretty uneducated still for celiac.....I just read their labels at Corky's and it vets out for me.
  16. Great advice, Sparkles....the most important person the day of the wedding is the bride and the next most important is the mother of the bride! Don't give them the power to hurt you, Ursa.....let her "eat cake" and you can make your own most favorite dessert.....she most likely is a typical bride...it's all about her"...and at least she offered to get the...
  17. Aw, shucks, Carla .......I'm just trying to stir up a hot bowl of porridge!!!!!!!!
  18. Well.......Scott added an article on the safety of oats today on celiac.com .......so anyone want to substitute the MFS debate for oats????????? OOOOOOOOO No throwing of rotten tomatoes, please!!
  19. Hi, again! Did you make it to Memphis and try the Corky's?
  20. Happy Birthday, Rachel!!!!!! I always thought the Rachel-24 was your age! You look MAHVELOUS,girl! Hope today was a great one for you!
  21. I have no problem with oats. My favorite dessert is a no bake chocolate/peanut butter/oats cookie...heated and gooey.....thank goodness I don't have a problem with it!!
  22. There you are!! Hope you had a great day today......we need our Momma Goose!
  23. I was getting 400-800 IU of Vitamin D in supplements and 1000 mg in calcium tabs(with Mg and Zn) as well as liberally in my diet. Also I am no stranger to the sun!!!!!! I am now getting 1400-1800 IU of Vitamin D after a low 1,25 OH Vitamin D level . I think I was sprued again!! I will recheck the level and if not well into normal range, I'll go ahead and...
  24. As I was sitting here, resting my fractured 5th little toe...it dawned on me that I had a normal DEXA last year....but I've had another broken toe in my 20's,broken little finger in my 20's and each ankle when I was a child. My recent Vitamin D came back low,so I'm pushing the D now. I wondered if youall had a similar rate of non-osteoporotic bone fractures...
  25. This is why everyone gets bent out of shape! You know something is wrong....the tests are negative..you wait 2 months to 16 months(geographically speaking!) to get a referral to a GI with NO guarantee they will biopsy you.....so you choose to go gluten free....Maybe you feel great for a few months, but if you get sick again, do you think your own diagnosis...
