Ener-G makes donut holes. I don't know how they taste since they have eggs in them and I'm allergicl Open Original Shared Link Enjoy Life chocolate chips are dairy free and gluten free, but I don't know if they would work in a chocolate fountain or not. I'm not really sure how they work. -
ARCHIVED What's Your Color?
Juliebove replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Interesting. Purple and red are my favorite colors! you are violet Your dominant hues are red and blue. You're confident and like showing people new ideas. You play well with others and can be very influential if you want to be. Your saturation level is lower than average - You don't stress out over things and don't understand people who do... -
ARCHIVED Emotional Iissues Over "being Different"
Juliebove replied to pinktroll's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
One thing to keep in mind, it might get easier as she gets older. It did with my daughter. She's not celiac but is allergic to wheat, gluten, dairy, soy, peanuts, eggs and bananas. She was diagnosed at age 6. For her it was quite easy at first because she felt a lot better and was very careful with the diet because she didn't want to get sick. What... -
ARCHIVED Pink Ideas Needed!
Juliebove replied to lorka150's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
One thing I've made for showers is surprise cookies. I don't have a gluten-free recipe for them though. They were little cookie balls that were tinted and inside each was a surprise. Like some chocolate chips, a piece of a candy bar or dried fruit or nuts. You can tint the cookies and the tops are drizzled with icing which can also be tinted. -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Dairy Free Bagel Recipe
Juliebove replied to sjust's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If milk powder is called for, you can use Vance's Dari Replacer, although I find it has an overly sweet taste. I tried making gluten-free and DF bagels a couple of times. I don't have the recipe handy. It was in one of the cookbooks I have. Although they were good, they really didn't taste anything like real bagels. They were boiled in sugar water... -
ARCHIVED Trix
Juliebove replied to jmd3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Always check the box. I believe at some points it was not gluten free. But it currently is and I have seen it mentioned here before. Pebbles is also gluten-free as is Little Einstein and some sort of icky Micky Mouse rice cereal. It's brightly colored. Daughter dumped a bowl of it all covered in rice milk all over the carpet. What a mess! -
ARCHIVED Trying To Make Lasagna Tonight And Can Not Find
Juliebove replied to isiskingdom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We can't have dairy or eggs. Rather than use the lasagna noodles in an Italian style recipe, I break them in large chunks before boiling, then add them to chicken and gravy with some onions, celery, carrots and peas. -
I never had one. Didn't eat at Denny's too often. We didn't have any near us when I lived in NY. Can't eat there now at all. The few things on their menu that don't have gluten in them seem to have milk and/or soybean oil.

Every time that commercial for KFC famous bowls comes on TV, my daughter drools over it and wishes she could have some. So tonight I made her my version. Now she does have additional food allergies, so I couldn't use any dairy in there. And I have diabetes so I don't need the additional carbs from the breading on the chicken. If you don't have these issues...

ARCHIVED Can I Take gluten-free Bread Into Canada?
Juliebove replied to Roger K's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
AFAIK, the only food you can't take into Canada is fresh fruit or vegetables. -
ARCHIVED Hebrew National Hotdogs, gluten-free?
Juliebove replied to mama2two's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am not celiac but I do have food allergies. I realized on my own that eggs were a problem but I never realized I was also allergic to almonds and dairy. Now almonds are pretty easy to avoid. But it's very easy to accidentally ingest some dairy, especially when dining out. And all it takes is a small speck to make me really ill. All my life, I ate cheese... -
ARCHIVED Amazon- What Would You Buy?
Juliebove replied to confusedks's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get a lot from this site, Miss Roben's, and Ener-G and Road's End Organics. I am lucky though. My health food store stocks a lot of gluten free stuff so I also buy a lot from them. -
ARCHIVED Need Heavy Duty Snack Options
Juliebove replied to alamaz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My daughter likes Shelton Turkey Sticks. She also likes beef jerky although it can be hard to find any that's gluten free. She also likes cans of Vienna sausages. And Nacho Chreese dip with corn chips. It's made of pea protein but it tastes just like real cheese! She also likes Snapea crisps and dried peas. -

My daughter loves all of their cookoies except for the No Oats Oatmeal. I never tried them so I didn't know what she was complaining about. Now I do! -
ARCHIVED Anybody Ever Made A Gluten Free, Egg Free Birthday Cake?
Juliebove replied to NewGFMom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I like the Namaste mixes. You can use the Ener-G egg replacer in them for the eggs, or a mix of ground flaxseeds and water. I would not use the flax in a white cake though. It's fine in a spice cake, chocolate cake, or any cake with fruit in it. -
ARCHIVED Amazon- What Would You Buy?
Juliebove replied to confusedks's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There are other places online that you can order from. Amazon is no longer my first choice for anything. I've had trouble getting things in a timely fashion from them and if I need to return something it can take up to 3 months to get the refund. If you order now, you may not get that food by the end of the month, even if it says the item is in stock and... -
ARCHIVED Behavior Changes With Dairy Intolerance?
Juliebove replied to Nic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
They thought my daughter had ADD. She was labeled as slow to learn. She had brain fogs. Couldn't listen or concentrate. At times she would say things like... "I wish God didn't maked me", or "I don't feel like myself", even at age 4 and 5. I had a tough time getting her to school every day. She always had to run back to the bathroom. I thought it... -
ARCHIVED Home Ec/cooking In School
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks! I don't know if such a class is required these days or not. When I was in school, we had to take either Home Ec or shop. We didn't get the choice of what we took. I really wanted to take shop since I already knew how to cook and sew, but alas, I had to take Home Ec. I remember the worst part of it for me was being forced to eat stuff I didn't... -
ARCHIVED Home Ec/cooking In School
Juliebove posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter is not quite 9 so I don't have to worry about this for a while, but a movie she was watching last night got me to thinking about this. I know one of the upcoming grades at her school bakes bread towards the end of the year. I heard the teacher taking about it and comparing this year's loaves to prior years. My daughter is not celiac but... -
ARCHIVED Popcorn
Juliebove replied to Hanna GF LF cheerleader's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's wonderful! I used to use olive oil. It's good too but the coconut oil is much better and has a slightly buttery flavor. -
ARCHIVED Popcorn
Juliebove replied to Hanna GF LF cheerleader's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I do mine like you do, but I use Real Salt. I have some Himalayan salt but haven't tried it yet. I make a large batch of popcorn almost every night. Daughter sometimes eats it for breakfast. I was born in the midwest where it is considered a food group. Heh! -
I've made a dessert pizza using a foccacia bread recipe but leaving out any savory seasonings like garlic or rosemary and adding a small amount of sugar. Then I sprinkle cinnamon and sugar over the top and bake it. You can put it in a pizza pan so it is round, or form it into a rectangle. I usually use the rectangle and cut it in strips to serve. I don...

ARCHIVED Ice Cream Cones
Juliebove replied to kbabe1968's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm going to try the recipe. I bought some that my daughter liked, but they had soy lecithin in them and she's allergic to soy. She's also allergic to eggs, so I hope this will work with the substiture. Thanks!
