ARCHIVED The Best Bread Recipe
kbabe1968 replied to snowcoveredheart's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
DEFINITELY try the Lorka bread posted above...it's REALLY GOOD. Tastes just like wheat bread to me. It only lasts about 2 days before it gets a little crumbly...I usually have eaten half the loaf and then use the other half for bread crumbs. WELL WORTH IT. Next time I'm thinking of splitting into two smaller loaves and freezing one. WORTH A TRY if... -

Doritos says right ont he label that they contain wheat starch. Just looked this past weekend. Now...the potato chips...the ones that have the sunflower on the bag...I can deal with that list of ingredients. Whole fresh potatoes, sliced and fried in sunflower oil and salt. That's it. I don't eat stax. My favorite chips are Kettle Cooked kind.... -

I made an apple cobbler with rice flour, sugar, milk and baking powder. I imagine you could use rice milk. It turned out BETTER than with regular flour...truly....the whole pan was gone and there wer eonly 4 people eating it! Open Original Shared Link then do a search for Apple Cobbler. -

You should try the Gluten Free Flax bread on recipezaar's website. It's by a member here "Lorka" and it is AWESOME. I've been gluten free for almost 9 months and have tried TONS of stuff...it is the closest taste and texturewise that comes close to real bread! -
ARCHIVED Thai Kitchen Soups
kbabe1968 replied to kbabe1968's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Zansu! I did notice on the site that not everything was gluten free. It is nice to know that they clearly label the ones that are. Further investigation did reveal that the gluten free ones are produced on dedicated lines...that impressed me too. -

HEY! You may all know about these, and if you do, sorry... My dad made me some soup the other day, showed me the package - right on it GLUTEN FREE. All rice noodles. He made the Bangkok Curry and added shrimp to it. It was DIVINE!!! I went to their website, and they have an allergen link to what is and is not gluten free. YEAH! I'm going out... -

I like the EnviroKidz Gorilla Munch and Panda Puffs A LOT. Our Trader Joe's carries them and they are not that much more expensive than regular cereal. I do miss cereal - i used ot eat Raisin Bran almost every morning. -
Has anyone tried the Carrot Cake #1 Recipe from the Celiac.com site here? I LOVE Carrot Cake, hubby does too. We're having company and I'd like to make it for this event so I can eat dessert too. Any suggestions?

ArtGirl - I'm going to follow the recipe but roll it out and cut into squares instead (ya know, so it's the right size for a little slice of cheese!!!). I wont' get to try them until Monday b/c we have company coming this weekend....but if I get to them before you, I'll let you know how they turn out! -

Open Original Shared Link I found this one too....I want to try it. I DO miss crackers!!! -
Complete side note to this - if you entertain often in heat I highly recommend Pampered Chef's Chillzanne collection. I have the large & small bowl and the Vegetable Server. You freeze them, and the gel inside freezes...they keep the food cold for 4 hours. They work GREAT. The veggie serve has a removable tray that freezes. One side is flat, one...

ARCHIVED How Do You Cook Rice?
kbabe1968 replied to alamaz's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Little known fact....to control exact heat without a burner you can bake your rice (providing pan and lid have no plastic on them). It's a trick Alton Brown uses often when he is concerned about controlling heat. I've nevr tried it with rice, but I would imagine if you placed it in a preheated oven - maybe 350, it would work. -

Also if you google gluten free recipes you can find A LOT of FREE information....Even Open... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Cook Rice?
kbabe1968 replied to alamaz's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I LOVE Brown rice...but it does not cook like white rice. Rice is usually a 2 to 1 ratio - if you use 1 cup rice, you need 2 cups liquid. Also, you need a dash salt and at least a tsp of some sort of fat. For brown rice I put the rice (rinsed well), water, dash salt and tsp butter in a NONSTICK pan that has a lid. Cover. Bring to boil, once boiling... -
ARCHIVED Bread Crumbs
kbabe1968 replied to uhave2bekidding's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Make the Lorka150 bread (find the thread here on the most wonderful bread ever made)....THEN, after it's aged a couple days....toast it dry and make your own crumbs! It is the closest thing to wheat bread I have tasted...it's so good. Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and italian seasoning and I guarantee it will be better than any bread crumbs... -

ARCHIVED Birthday Cake...recipes Please?
kbabe1968 replied to kbabe1968's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would tend to agree with what you said. I had wanted to make it as cupcakes, but I was trying out one of those new silicone flexible pans. I also think the funky smell from the cake is from the pan. Also on the sugar, I'm going to increase the sugar AND the vanilla next time too...I happen to like the oversweet, overflavored box cakes! LOL I am... -
