  1. Much as I hate to live on drugs, God created Imodium for a reason( ). If you've been having this problem this long you might want to consider dosing yourself at least once to prevent dehydration.
  2. Pffffft- Watchers is totally his best book.
  3. I really think you would serve yourself better to spend your time working on feeling better for now, and worry about weight issues later. It's not going to be possible to lose weight safely until you are healthy. You should not be doing hard workouts while you're healing. Light exercise, walking, yoga, sure, but no cardio-kickboxing for now! It is entirely...
  4. This is good advice. I would take the probiotic more than once a day. And continue for a long time after the antibiotics have ended. I personally do not function properly without my daily probiotic.
  5. "Bug on drugs" *snort... Very happy for you!
  6. Cereal boxes. When I was a kid it was reading the cereal box over and over. Still have the word monkey on my back.
  7. 2 reasons CT winters are bad: because of the deplorable disorganization of the plowing system. And, I used to work in the industry of wrecked accident vehicles. Yeah, people in CT have NO IDEA HOW TO DRIVE!!!! You're taking your life in your hands to drive from late November to early April. Well, anytime really, but boy does it get worse in the weather.....
  8. Are you in a physical condition that would allow you to spend at least part of your day sitting on one of those huge medicine balls?
  9. If it helps anyone, I have found the simplest, easiest way to reduce the load of grain in my diet is to replace pasta with spaghetti squash. Or zucchini. Either is a 1:1 replacement for almost any pasta dish you could be making, barring lasagna, in which case you would just do everything else you do for lasanga and have a layer of squash on the bottom and...
  10. I noticed a bit of red and yellow in the trees yesterday, when out for a drive. Of all the season transitions, this is both my most favorite and my least fvorite. It's the prettiest, best weather, and the SMELL! I'm so with you caselynn. I love walking in the fall so much. But it's also a transition to cold, my least favorite season. Blechh... Stupid CT snow...
  11. Also, can I ask if you are female, and if so, where you are at with your cycle?
  12. Tell me something else. Aside from the scare you received with this 5 pounds, do you feel physically healthier? Do you feel any better yet at all?
  13. On the other hand, roommates that let their crap pile up until its overflowing onto the counter and overflowing the dishwasher are being downright nasty and rude, completely aside from the gluten issue. I second the suggestion that you remove all but two of everything, if it's all yours. Then they'll have to wash to eat. If it's all theirs, put it in a bin...
  14. The new kitty is very cute!
  15. Can I ask exactly how much weight you're talking about? 'A few pounds' isn't something I would be too concerned about in the short term, your body is healing. There's going to be some changes.

    ARCHIVED Beer?

For Heaven's sake, have a good beer. Try Green's! (Sorry, self-professed beer snob) Even Bard's Tale and New Grist are better than Redbridge...
  17. Also, am I alone in noticing that this thread alone has more than one legitimate reference to wheat flour being used to paste barrels shut, and that it is a common practice according to a number of winemakers? Boutique winemakers, yes, but come on. Tell me another instance where we would unquestioningly accept the use of wheat flour paste to seal the container...
  18. I will repeat myself. We need to be able to come here and report something made us sick, safely, without being blown off. I have lost count of the number of people who have reported a gluten reaction to wine, and they deserve better than to have the 'experts' on this board tell them they are imagining it. Everyone reading can see both sides of the issue...
  19. LAst night- homefries w onions and ground beef mixed up with sour cream and diced avocado all spiced up. Tonight, chicken and green beans! And potato chips...
  20. I would add, have a place to drop your clothing when you get home and then shower. Im guessing you're a go home and shower guy, which is pretty typical of someone who works in a kitchen. I found that the hardest habit to break was keeping my hands OUT of my mouth. Eating, piece of food stuck, whatever. As long as you are aware of that, it won't matter...
  21. I would think most hospital environments would not be baking on site- perhaps I'm wrong about that. But if it's possible for you to do it safely, I think it's a fantastic idea. I've considered something similar for myself.
  22. Honestly Peter, I think that's an unfair response. In most situations, it's perfectly safe to say 'Hey, the experts don't say it's a problem, we're good'. But none of the people running those organizations are perfect, and a great deal of the information we get as Celiacs is directly from the anecdotal reporting of the members of this board. Blowing off repeated...
  23. Very happy to see this-am in RI pretty frequently and never found this place before. Thanks!
  24. Yay baby!
  25. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that aside from the teens mentioned, the adults who've had this problem have also given birth at least once? It's TOTALLY normal for women to deal with cough/laugh/sneeze incontinence after giving birth. I would imagine it would have something to do with exacerbating the gluten incontinence. Just remind yourself, it...
