  1. I would go with the GP first for testing for parasites etc. Most don't do antibody stool testing but there is a company called Enterolab that does testing for stool antibodies to gluten, soy, casien and yeast as well as fecal fat. They don't diagnose celiac but they can tell you if you are making antibodies.
  2. Dove, Suave and Garnier will all clearly label gluten ingredients. For the organics Shikai and Giovanni are also good labelers.
  3. I reach for Cream of Buckwheat cereal and put lots of cinnamon in it. I find it soothes my tummy and since my blood sugar can be a bit unstable after a glutening the cinnamon helps level it out. The only brand I buy is Pocono because I know it is a dedicated farm and equipment facility so there is no chance of it being CC'd. There may be others that are dedicated...
  4. When I was still on gluten to say everything hurt would be an understatement. So yes your back pain and the fatigue could well be gluten related. You said your test results will be back on Monday. Are there other celiac related tests that you will be having? If you have had the endo (or are not going to have one) and blood tests done then you don't need to...
  5. All you can do is go on from here. You can't change the past but you can and will be able to correct the mistakes you made going forward. Hopefully soon that nice flat tummy will be back and you will overall be feeling much better. While your family may see this as a bit of an inconvience it would be much more inconvient to have to help you deal with some...
  6. Yea that is to me the most uncomfortable place for the breakouts. It is not like we can scratch there when it itches. I found cool compresses to be the most helpful when that happens. I also stopped using scented panty liners for that reason as I seemed to get blisters from some of them.
  7. Please do cut out the dairy for a bit. The part I bolded is significant in that we can often become addicted to items we are intolerant to. Also the dairy you are getting is really high lactose and until your villi heal you are not able to produce the enzyme you need to digest dairy. It is possible you may be able to add dairy back in after you have healed...
  8. Glad to hear you are going back to the diet. If you go to the home page here- https://www.celiac.com/ You will see a box with allowed and not allowed foods and some other subjects. That will be helpful. Some of us do tolerate certified gluten free oats but some of us will get a gluten reaction. Wait until you have healed well and then try some daily...
  9. Joannie, If you are going to have the scope you do need to keep eating gluten until the scope is done if you are looking for a celiac diagnosis. Doctors can look for other things if you are already gluten free but some of the things they may find could be being caused by the gluten, like irritation in the stomach and reflux for example. Those may clear up...
  10. I now have a dedicated gluten-free house so I use either. When my house was mixed I used more paper towels. When I only use them to dry my washed hands I leave the towel to dry and just reuse it either to dry my hands again or to wipe up something. If you have only used a paper towel to dry your hands and there is no food residue on it you can put it into...
  11. The ANA is a test for antinuclear antibodies which are associated with autoimmune diseases. It is a general test and can't tell you what autoimmune disease you have just that one is likely present. Not everyone with Celiac has a positive ANA so you may also have something else going on in addition to the celiac. Hopefully you will start feeling better soon...
  12. There is also the possibility that you were glutened by something else not the restaurant meal. Since reactions can be delayed by as much as 3 days to a week it would be very hard to prove that it was that particular meal that got you. Once that point is brought up by the restaurants attorney your chances of winning would be nil. I would talk to the manager...
  13. In addition to this we also have Big Pharma who would rather sell us meds for symptoms. Over just the last 10 to 20 years or so a lot of the meds to control celiac related symptoms have gone to OTC so folks self medicate instead of insisting on a diagnosis of what is really wrong. We are actually taught from a young age that we should take a pill rather than...
  14. Have you eliminated iodine as well? If you haven't you may want to give that a shot in addition to the gluten-free diet. If you do go with another course of antibiotics do be sure to get some probiotics started when you start taking them. I use yogurt but if you can't do dairy they can be found in pill form. Are you eating mostly whole unprocessed foods...
  15. Now that I have healed well it isn't as bad as it was. Before diagnosis speech was a big issue for me. Both with finding words and actually speaking them. Gluten can really mess badly with the brain. I do find that now that I have been strict with the diet for a long time that the neuro effects like trouble speaking and walking are much milder when I get...
  16. I also use Tom's of Maine but the cinnemint flavor. I have also used crest and colgate.
  17. Not always. Generally they only test for 2 out of possibly 27 associated genes. Also if she has been gluten free or gluten light the blood tests will be negative and there are even high rates of false negatives with folks on a full gluten diet. A derm can biopsy the area next to the active lesions to check for the antibodies but they do need to be looking...
  18. Your doctors work for you. Call them and tell them you want to pick up a lab slip for a celiac panel. Do be aware that both blood tests and biopsies do have a fairly high rate of false negatives. After all celiac related testing is done then do a trial of the gluten-free diet.
  19. I wish I had some advice for you but I can definately identify with what has happened. By the time I was well I had lost all friends and even family leaves me as the odd man out. It isn't like we did something 'wrong' that we deserve to be punished for but at times that is what it feels like. Perhaps once you are feeling better you can start doing some...
  20. Unfortunately both blood and biopsies can come back with a pretty high rate of false negatives. Since you have had both bloodwork and biopsies for celiac call your doctor and ask what other testing they are planning on doing for celiac. If they say they are just waiting for the results and are not doing any further testing you could go ahead and start the...
  21. I would ask for a retest first. There could have been a lab error and if it is that high you want it confirmed. If you are done with celiac testing do give her a trial on the diet as the diet will not effect the outcome of testing for other conditions. Hopefully the sky high test result was a lab or transcription error.
  22. Call the doctors and speak to a nurse. They should be able to have you pick up a testing kit so you can drop it off and perhaps have a result by the time you see the doctor. Don't take anything over the counter for the suspected worms until you know for sure whether you actually have them or not.
  23. IMHO better safe than sorry. If your dentist has told you to avoid it then I personally would do so. There are many other brands of toothpaste that you can use without worry.
  24. ((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))) So sorry you got such bad news. Still thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers.
  25. The osteoarthritis may be linked to celiac and hopefully the pain will be relieved after you have been on the diet for a bit. Do your pre and post meal checks for your blood sugar. After you have healed you may find that you are not insulin resistant any longer. Can't say for sure but since I was diagnosed when glutened as diabetic I decided to wait on meds...
