  1. I hope your girls are recovering well. Just a quick note that not all celiacs tolerate oats, even gluten free oats. I am one of them. Do wait until they are well healed from the poisoning before trying the cereal again. If possible have them eat it every day for a week without any other new foods. Celiac reactions can be delayed which can make it confusing...
  2. Have you had a colonoscopy? If not it would be a good idea to contact the GI doctor that diagnosed you about the bleeding. You could have something more than celiac going on. I pass blood for a day or two after being glutened but having this going on even when just passing gas and having it last for weeks really needs to be evaluated. Until you can see...
  3. When I was first diagnosed my DH would flare within hours of consumption. Now after being gluten free for many years those blisters are the last thing to show up in my glutened cascade of symptoms. I also now only get a couple small blisters and they heal fairly quickly. I was virtually covered in lesions when I was diagnosed. Do make sure that your doctor...
  4. It would be best, IMHO, to wait until those liver panels are back to normal and your gut has healed. Also be sure to read the Newbie 101 thread at the top if the Coping section, if you haven't already, to learn how to keep yourself as safe as possible. Unfortunately there is more to being gluten free for us Celiac folks than just what we eat.
  5. It is likely that once you are healed on the gluten-free diet you won't need them any longer. If you do still need digestive enzyme there are some that are over the counter. Right now you have no way of knowing whether it is the steroids, the enzymes or the diet that is the most responsible for your improvement. The steroids will be a short time course I...
  6. Your doctor is correct. Many folks prediagnosis have wonky liver panels. My doctors always accused me of being an alcholic even though I rarely drank. It wasn't long after I was diagnosed that those liver panels went back to normal. Yours likely will also.
  7. I aimed for a thousand extra calories a day. I used a combo of gluten-free pretzels, raisens and nuts and kept them in a bag with me all day. Whenever I thought of it I would eat a handful till they were gone. I ate them in addition to my regular 3 meals a day which I also tried to make a calorie rich as possible. Don't know if it would work for you but...
  8. With panel results that high you do have celiac. It is good that you are having the biopsy done though so the doctor can monitor the amount of healing if you choose torescope in 6 months to a year. There is a chance that damage is patchy and may be missed on the biopsies. If that is the case don't think you are not celiac. You can start the diet strictly...
  9. NSAIDs may contribute to villious blunting but they won't cause celiac blood tests to be positive. If a person has both blunting and positive blood work they have celiac. While it appears that the endo came first Joseph did have a follow up celiac panel run.
  10. I don't have a lot of time this morning but I did locate organizations section on gluten free label regs in Canada. There may be more info on this in that section that may be helpful in knowing why they are making that change. http://www.inspection.gc.ca/food/labelling/food-labelling-for-industry/allergens-and-gluten/gluten-free-claims/eng/134019459...
  11. There has been a recent recall of veggies because of listeria risk. Here is the FDA list of recalled items in the US and Canada https://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm581389.htm
  12. If it was wheat starch it would have to be listed on the ingredient list. Chances are you will be okay. What brand was it?
  13. Thanks for the info. Great for folks that don't have a local source. I found a place to get a good deal on both the big bag of jelly beans and licorice at my local Tractor Supply for 3 bucks each. Right now I am eating a 16 oz bag of their Bumble Beans that I got a Big Lots for $1.50. Those and Dark Chocolate baking chips are my worst food addictions...
  14. Thanks for posting this Karen. I haven't dared try any 'gluten removed' beers and don't think I ever will. I'll stick to Green's or Redbridge for my after mowing refreshment.
  15. Milky Way Dark and Gimbels jelly beans and their licorice scotties.
  16. Ennis, can you tell us how to tell the difference between a UC flare and a glutening? It must be confusing for folks diagnosed with both to know at first which it is that is happening.
  17. A dairy issue would not cause positives on the celiac panel. You may even get dairy back after some time on a strict gluten free diet. I am sorry you are having to deal with these issues but strictly following the diet may help not only the dairy issue but also may ease the UC. Ask any questions you need as we are here to help in any way we can. Do be sure...
  18. Yes after the scope is done go ahead and get her on the diet. You may see improvement even before the results are back.
  19. Welcome, you are repying to a thread that is 7 years old. I've been gluten free for a long time and Snickers and Milky Way Dark are two of my favorite candy bars.
  20. Since you are washing your hands right afterwards you shouldn't have an issue. Are you asking because your having symptoms of mystery glutenings?
  21. Welcome. You do sound like you could be one of us. You should get retested for celiac. Just because tests were negative a couple years ago doesn't mean they will be now. Any doctor can run the panel but if you can see a GI doctor that is familiar with celiac that might be best. Do not stop eating gluten until your celiac related testing is finished.
  22. You may want to keep a food and symptom journal. Our reactions can be delayed and that can make it hard to pinpoint what 'got' us. A journal can help you see a pattern and help us figure it out. Enjoy that pudding.
  23. Sorry to hear you are still suffering so. Have you had a vitamin and mineral panel done? You should at least have your B12 levels checked. If they are not over 500 then try a subligual B12. That might help a bit. I take a Stress B supplement but was able to drop the B12 after about 5 years. I know how hard it is to stick to a very regimented schedule as...
  24. There are companies that make gluten free dining cards for various countries that may help you ask about the safety of foods if you are dining in restaurants or shopping. You might find those make it easier to inquire about the safety of foods when your traveling. Hope you enjoy your trip and don't end up glutened.
  25. It might be a good idea to contact a company directly if someone feels they were glutened by an item from a company that only makes gluten free items. Save the package so you can tell them the lot number and if the company feels it to be helpful they may want you to send the remaining product to them so they can test it.
