  1. Have you ever had your total IGA measured? If you are IGA deficient that would have an impact on the tests. You may want to ask your doctor to test for IGA deficiency.
  2. The best way to tell is to try it. I was totally shocked when the pain I had went away within minutes of taking the first dose. You have nothing to lose by giving it a try.
  3. No it doesn't. I am wondering why they are saying latent, perhaps because the villi are not totally destroyed.....yet. I would advise doing the diet to prevent any more damage. If you wanted after six months or so on the diet you could ask to be reendoed and see if the damage that they found had resolved. That would be a clear indication that the diet...
  4. Celiac did a number on my teeth, like many of us have happen and I had to have most of my upper teeth pulled a couple weeks ago and now have a temporary partial plate that of course since I am still healing is getting looser and looser. I still have almost 2 months to go before my dentist will make the final plate and need something to keep these temps from...
  5. My gums were quite inflammed before diagnosis and I did have quite a bit of recession. I do think they might be linked as since I went gluten free my gums have been doing very well although the recession of course has not gotten better it hasn't gotten any worse. Since celiac in full force can cause full body inflammation I wouldn't be surprised if it contributed...
  6. Press her hard. The IGA deficincy could be impacting the tests for celiac and false negatives are all too common even with a normal IGA level. She can still have burgers and pizza, there are gluten free versions of both that are not bad. It might help her also to have her visit here and perhaps even 'talk' to some of the teens in the teen section.
  7. Are you absolutely postive that antibiotic was gluten free? If it was generic just because it was gluten free before when you took it doesn't mean it was this time.
  8. I saw some things that improved quickly but other took longer to resolve. My constant D was actually gone within a week, except for the times that I got glutened early on. Migraines were the same but arthritic pain and balance issues took much, much longer with both being better at six months but not totally resolved. One thing I noticed was you said you...
  9. If you want to do a challenge then you should do a true challenge rather than eating mixed foods once and then deciding that the food is fine because you don't think your reacting or think that you are unable to tolerate either when only one is the problem. Drop both the dairy, in all forms, and gluten for a week or two. During this time eat only unprocessed...
  10. Yes although if you become ill from the challenge that is a valid diagnosis also. I would suggest when you go back on gluten for the first week challenge it with something like cream of wheat or triscuits for that first week. If you go back to gluten by all of a sudden eating stuff like fast food and pizza you may feel a bit of confusion wondering if it...
  11. It sounds like your allergist is one who won't work with intolerances. A lot of them don't but you could ask the office if he would guide you through an elimination diet or if they know one who will if you decide to do a formal elimination. Your plan to eliminate soy and dairy is a good one but do wait until you are have had some symptom relief before you...
  12. I would call your doctor or perhaps even visit the ER. That was a pretty severe reaction and not to scare you but you may have had something serious happen. The fact that you woke on the floor and were confused and are still a dizzy makes me wonder if you may have hit your head and suffered a concusion when you passed out. Loosing consiousness like that...
  13. You don't have a brain 'allergy' what you have is the gluten antibodies attacking your brain. If you have the antibodies, which you do if you had a postive test for celiac, you need to stop the antibodies from forming and the way to do is that is being very strict with the diet. The best way to ease your fear with eating food your Mom cooks, or anyone else...
  14. In addition are you certain the Ferrex is gluten free? Make sure you pharmacist checks it. The B12 injections should not increase your symptoms but getting glutened sure would.
  15. Laurel, Please do eliminate the dairy, at least for the time being. The enterolab tests showed a sensitivity to the milk protein, casien. That is different from milk sugar, lactose so the lactaid will do nothing to help with that issue. That could be causing your pain but it is gluten sneaking in that is causing the DH flairs. Do try some name brand...
  16. I wouldn't worry about the levels of vitamins in this product but I would worry a great deal about the fact that it has both barley and wheat in it. You were wise to stop taking it if you are gluten intolerant or celiac.
  17. That 'child' needs a talking to from his father, and a stern one at that. If your husband is unwilling or unable to confront him over this issue there really isn't much that you can do other than to continue to treat him with the respect that he is denying you when you are together. He may harbor some resentment toward you as his 'step mother' even if you...
  18. Hope you have a great Birthday.
  19. Celiac can run very strongly within families. If your sister is going to biopsy she should stay on gluten until that is done. The day of the biopsy should be her first gluten free day. Please accept my condolences on your families loss. It is not unusual for this type of stress to trigger celiac. I hope she does well after she has a bit of time to heal...
  20. Sure as long as you don't mind risking losing the ability to walk a straight line or at all, or you don't mind your brain getting so foggy that you can't think well enough to read or retain info, as long as you don't mind getting on an emotional rollercoaster or even perhaps becomeing incontinent. Then yea if you don't mind those issues and others that can...
  21. If it is making your mouth burn you are senstive to something in it. Try a different mix. Pamela's makes a good baking mix as does Tom Sawyer brand. I prefer the Pamela's for stuff like muffins and Tom Sawyer for things like scalloped potatoes. Gluten free pantry also makes some really good mixes, my favorite is the French Bread mix for fresh pizza dough...
  22. I would suggest you evaluate everything your consuming and coming into contact with. It sounds to me like you have gluten sneaking in somewhere. Check all your toiletries, have you changed out the stuff in your kitchen that you need to- toaster, condiments (no sharing) cutting boards etc, how much do you eat out? Do you go out for drinks and if so what...
  23. Tom's of Maine makes a great line of toothpastes. All are gluten-free and the ingredients are listed in easy to read format. It was the one my new dentist told me to get but I have been using the cinnamin one for years now.
  24. My son had keratosis pilaris from infancy until he went gluten-free, then they disappeared. They didn't itch. I had them only on my knees but for him they covered his chest. I also had severe DH and was told at various times that it was poison ivy in my bloodstream (not possible we know now) and pickers acne (even though I would ask if acne would itch...
  25. The best way to do an elimination diet IMHO is to find an allergist who can help with it. Not all will so do ask before making an appointment with one. The allergist will test for true allergies and then formulate a starting point that will give you proper nutrition and enough calories. You could try dropping the biggest offenders, dairy and soy are our...
