ARCHIVED Need A Brand Name Product List
ravenwoodglass replied to Katydid's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is so nice of you to be there to help. Make sure you make them aware of CC and non food issues. I like to go straight to the companies if I can here are a couple: Hormels: Open Original Shared Link Delmonte: Open Original Shared Link Bushes Beans: Open Original Shared Link Starkist: Open Original Shared Link Kraft and... -
ARCHIVED Is It Necessary To Eat Gluten Foods Prior To Endoscopy?
ravenwoodglass replied to BritChick's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have an active DH rash and it sounds like you do, and the biopsy you are talking about is the biopsy of the area adjacent to the rash as long as it is active and the biopsy is done correctly you shouldn't have to gluten load. If you are talking about an endoscopy and biopsies, not a colonscopy (celiac can not be diagnosed from the large intestine... -
ARCHIVED Do Symptoms Come And Go?
ravenwoodglass replied to familyfirst's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, except for the ataxia all my symptoms were 'come and go' for many years. A lot of damage was done in those years. I was 30 before the D became a daily occurance and my intermittant joint pains became a daily agony. I did not show up in blood tests and no one told me anything about the diet other than I should be glad I did not have to be on it... -
ARCHIVED Doctors And Pharmaceutical Companies
ravenwoodglass replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Doctors
"No easy answers here.......choose your doctors wisely, but please don't think they can all be sold for scrap." There are never easy answers. Unfortunately we don't know we haven't got a good one until it is too late. US doctors and their refusal to look for celiac disease is costing us a lot more than money. How many years of my and my childrens life... -
ARCHIVED Saying Hello And Thank You!
ravenwoodglass replied to Abbygail's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hmmm, more than a little scary that I knew that off the top of my head. I guess med terminology and all those root words are still lurking in my addled brain..... Somewhere deep down inside.....now if I could only remember what day it is..... -
ARCHIVED Saying Hello And Thank You!
ravenwoodglass replied to Abbygail's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I like your 'Gold Standard. I think if we follow the 'rules' ? onymous ? would be the opposite since the an means not or against. I think it has a nice flow to it anyway but sounds like a disease. Almost forgot to add welcome Gail. Sorry I was just laughing too hard. -
ARCHIVED Test Results - Confused
ravenwoodglass replied to CraigN's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The results show you are gluten intolerant and carry the genes for that. My educated guess would be that the numbers define some kind of genetic subtype. I took part in National Geographic Genome Project and there were lots of numbers like this in the gene test results. As to casein, I would do a complete exclusion of this for quite a while, the lab... -
ARCHIVED Pre Diagnosis - Eating Gluten For The Test Is Killing Me
ravenwoodglass replied to terrymarie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
IMHO you should stop now. The challenge has already shown that you have a problem with gluten. You body has clearly shown you. Please even if the biopsy is a false negative do not keep eating afterwards. Your body, believe it or not, has better diagnostic powers than the Doctors. -
ARCHIVED Doctors And Pharmaceutical Companies
ravenwoodglass replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Doctors
I wonder why Doctors are allowed to have any 'kickbacks' from the drug companys. Kind of makes us realize why celiac is so ignored and we are just given script after script of the newest and most toxic drugs available. It should be illegal for them both to take part in these activities IMHO> -
ARCHIVED Prilosec
ravenwoodglass replied to jesscarmel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yea, Don't buy it, write a letter to the company complaining about this reps treatment of you and get some pepto bismal. The pink stuff and not some generic. After I was given ulcers by the prep for my upper and lower scope, (I had no ulcer symptoms before I did the prep and procedure) the doc sent me home that day with the Prilosec OTC. I instead took... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Flour Sourdough Starters
ravenwoodglass replied to larry mac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I believe never would be the appropriate response here. I wouldn't chance it myself. There are companies that make gluten free starters or perhaps you can find a recipe for one. -
ARCHIVED Colazal?
ravenwoodglass replied to KirstySF's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This drug is used in the treatment of mild to moderate ulcerative colitis. It would not be something given for the treatment of celiac. The exception might be for inflammation and bleeding during a glutening episode. It was given, if I read the person correctly, because they don't have the results yet of the panel. If a gluten free diet is needed then... -
ARCHIVED Colazal?
ravenwoodglass replied to KirstySF's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is a very new drug that seems to act as an antinflammatory. There is a lot of info on it on the net if you google it. Make sure if you take it that your doctor does a urinalysis and liver panel on you before you take it and if you decide to take it long term be aware that it has not been on the market long enough for them to either access long term... -
ARCHIVED Are We Thinking About This The Right Way?
ravenwoodglass replied to SpikeMoore's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I agree. We really need to get the medical world to open their eyes. The antibody reaction is an extrememly destructive one and really can seriously impact people before the doctors even think to look for a cause. Symptom relief is what it is all about and the drugs that supply that relief. One of the biggest issues IMHO is the celiac related depression... -
ARCHIVED Do You Celebrate Your Celiac Diagnosis Day?
ravenwoodglass replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh yea, it's my other 'birthday'. Being a twinless twin I don't usually celebrate my real one so my Diagnosis day is a day to feel good and treat myself. It will be 5 years 11/20 -
ARCHIVED Difference Between Acne And Dh?
ravenwoodglass replied to Woolygimp's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Acne doesn't itch. Nor does it leave the purple scars that DH does. You just did a gluten challenge and your body has clearly told you that gluten is not for despite what the blood tests showed. You need to be gluten free including your shampoos etc. You could always do another gluten challenge after a couple of months of clear skin. -
ARCHIVED Waiting On Results?
ravenwoodglass replied to DestinyLeah's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First off welcome to the celiac world, hopefully you will feel better soon. I am addressing the insurance denial, have you called the insurance company directly to find out why they denied? Sometimes it can be as simple as the hospital sent the bills to the wrong place, it has happened to me. They would simply resubmit. If they are withholding payment... -
ARCHIVED Is It Time To Call The Specialist?
ravenwoodglass replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What are you eating? Are you eating a lot of mainstream products or specialty gluten free? Have you tried eating only naturally gluten free unprocessed food for a while to see if that makes a difference? Do you consume grain alcohols or vinagers? Not all tolerate them. Also make sure you are addressing the second hand gluten issue and check any... -
ARCHIVED Soy Crisps
ravenwoodglass replied to holdthegluten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If they are made by Glenny's this is what they say. Are glenny's products Wheat & Gluten free? Soy Crisps: All soy crisps are wheat & gluten free. Slim Carb Snacks: All Slim Carb snacks are wheat & gluten free. Slim Carb Bars: All Slim Carb bars are wheat & gluten free, with the exception of the Berry Blast flavor. Light-N-Crispy... -
ARCHIVED Stevia ~~ A Safe Sweetener ~~
ravenwoodglass replied to HawkFire's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is so important, I didn't know about the relationship until after I had blisters from the roof of my mouth as far as I could see down my throat. For those who are not allergic though it is a great product. -
ARCHIVED Marshall Protocol?
ravenwoodglass replied to HawkFire's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Empty nesting, yea me too, mine are grown and either in college or out and working. Sometimes I feel like I live to hear the phone ring. I hope the computer class goes well. I went back to college after more than 20 years out of school and almost quit the computer class when I burst into tears one day. The instructer was very kind though and said... -
ARCHIVED Magazine's Article Concerning Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to JodiC's topic in Publications & Publicity
The thing that bothered me the most about this article was that they never said what gluten is. There was no mention of anything other than flour and baked goods. No mention of rye or barley. It was one of the most poorly written articles I have ever seen that deals with gluten intolerance. -
ARCHIVED Unedible Products
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am afraid I have to disagree with this as a blanket statement for all. Everyone in my family has 'tells' with gluten that do not show up with a virus or food poisoning. For us one of those 'tells' is a deep depression that hits within 24 hours and lifts suddenly after 72 along with a rash that will come within 48. Gluten is also the only thing that... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results And Thyroid Please Help Me
ravenwoodglass replied to MinxyMandy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do not judge whether you need to be gluten free off of just the biopsy. You have 22 ft of small intestine and it is easy to miss damage. Also it may take years for gluten to damage your intestines enough to show up. In this time a lot of damage can be done to your brain and other body organs. Judge whether you need to be gluten-free from your response... -
ARCHIVED Marshall Protocol?
ravenwoodglass replied to HawkFire's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Marcia, No congratulations needed, after all my body did the all the healing work after I stopped poisoning it. I just couldn't stop it from doing so. I am still amazed almost every day. I discovered last week that I can read and remember what I read again. I stopped reading novels a while before I was diagnosed cause I couldn't keep anything...
