  1. It was gluten in the mozzarella. This was from Sargento's website, figured you'd rather see that than hear what the rep said when I called. And it was not on the label or I never would have eaten it. Q. Is there gluten in Sargento cheeses? We are pleased to tell you that most Sargento natural cheeses should be acceptable to a gluten-free diet. However...
  2. What you need to do is call the dentist, tell him to note the gluten 'allergy' in your charts and ask them to check everything before it is used on you. Offer to call yourself on all products they use if you have the time and the inclination. Don't trust it to memory and ask the person who schedules to mark the celiac beside your appointment in the book...
  3. This is true but does not make us safe yet, the excerpt is from the link listed: "A caution: The Act applies to all product labels created after Jan 1, 2006. Be aware that there will be a transition period of undetermined length during which products that were labeled prior to the law taking effect will remain on store shelves and in home pantries...
  4. Yea, I'm glad to see them confirm I'm not crazy. I used to use the mozzarella they talk about all the time till I got 'got' once to often. I'll stick with wegmans since they only use potato starch and I am lucky enough to have them nearby. Kraft is okay but after reading up on cellulose I don't want it in anything I eat whether gluten free or not and kraft...
  5. Q. Is there gluten in Sargento cheeses? We are pleased to tell you that most Sargento natural cheeses should be acceptable to a gluten-free diet. However, there are a few exceptions. There is wheat gluten in Sargento Blue Cheese. Sargento Imitation Mozzarella Shredded Cheese contains a modified food starch that may contain gluten. Those on a gluten-free...
  6. This is exactly what you should do. You also need to find out why it is high. It can be genetic and is also seen frequently in smokers. If you are using a supplement with iron in it stop. Your body may be absorbing and storing it properly now that you are gluten-free. Make sure you doctor follows up on this, high iron levels for extended periods can...
  7. Your best bet is to call the maker and ask. Also there are many celiacs who can tolerate distilled gluten grains but there are many who can not. You won't know if you do till you try one. When you try it for the first time make sure there are no other 'maybe' items in you diet so you will be better able to pinpoint the cause of a reaction if you have one...
  8. The phone to call the makers of the product.
  9. I agree totally with Ursa. If you were gluten-free when you we tested that will skew the results. Also there is no way you doctor can tell by just looking whether you also have celiac.
  10. Unfortunately the chances are pretty high. Remember there are a lot of us undiagnosed and passing on the genes. I have two children with very different genetic makeups, they both got genes from their fathers sides as well as mine. There is no certainty that he will also be gluten intolerant but you should watch for some things like for example: Be...
  11. Boy can I sure sympathize. I think I finally found a good one though he is letting me check everything so there will be no doubt. You can get work done and not get glutened at the dentist, but it sure isn't easy. I had one who checked everything and even asked before she put gauze in my mouth but she is out of the area now and many dentists have a 'well...
  12. I am glad your checking labels but please be aware that not all companies will tell you about crosscontamination issues and non wheat gluten can be hidden in flavors and seasonings. Especially at first it is a good idea to call and ask about any new item. Also when you make a purchase of an item that is labeled gluten free be sure to look and see if...
  13. Hi, Just a note for everyone that replied, thanks. It sure does seem there may be a correlation. One thing that I want to point out for safety sake is that there is a syndrome called 'Hypermobility Syndrome' that will effect only the joints. For those of you who are hypermobile and have doctors that have not addressed it, if at all if possible you...
  14. Sonja, simply put the answer to the cat food query is yes. My mystery glutenings did not stop until I switched them to nongrain food and gave away my parrot.
  15. Yesterday was a pretty typical day for me food wise: Breakfast - Arrowhead Mills Maple Buckwheat Flakes and an orange Lunch - Lundberg brown rice plain Dinner - My version of fast food - Gortons Shrimp temptations (Scampi) with broccolli, onions, corn and peas, all frozen. I put them on a big piece of foil with a little butter, seal it up and pop in...
  16. Unfortunately this is true for some brands. We switched to American Spirit which is an additive free, just tobacco cig. The first one seemed different but the change was effortless and both me and my DH smoke much, much less without even trying. Some brands I always just about chain smoked, it makes me wonder if the addictive nature of the gluten additives...
  17. The cookies are great and I have never had an issue with them but Amy's stuff, that's another story. I'd keep the cookies and avoid the pizza.
  18. Thanks for this, I have been glutened by store brand cheeses. I just didn't feel comfortable saying so without a link to prove it. Thanks
  19. Hello and welcome. I just wanted to address the issue of making your home gluten free. It is not going to be harmful at all to make gluten off limits in your home. Your DS is not more likely to become celiac if you do this, it will however make it obvious if he needs to be on the diet when he is out and comsuming gluten. This is not a bad thing. ...
  20. I was gotten really bad once by a licorice tea so I have become very cautious about tea. Celestial Seasonings will label their gluten-free teas, don't buy one that doesn't have the words gluten free and you should be okay. My favorite is the Original India Spice. Go with McCormicks for your spices..
  21. Toss it. You can of course call the company to confirm that you can't use it but your body has already told you. For me those little pimples are followed by a couple months of excessive hairloss so I hope this does not happen to you.
  22. You should look for an allergist that will guide you through an elimination diet after they do the skin prick testing. The skin testing will show any true allergies but not intolerances but it is helpful and a valid first step in the elimination diet process. I would be dead if I had not found an allergist who would help me with this. the elimination diet...
  23. I would still go and as others said get all the info you can. I actually have learned the hard way to basically eat as this person stated. For me that means my oven is my best friend. I am amazed how much stuff I can just wrap in foil and pop in an oven. I am really thankful for Wegmans, they label everything. But all mainstream stuff gets a...
  24. I am so glad you are feeling better. I had a hard time accepting that I had to do the same thing when I was first healing but I ended up eating basically like you are and am surprised how much of a difference it makes. I still stay away from most mainstream stuff and feel better for it. I never thought I would be happy eating a 'fast food' meal that is...
