  1. Have you asked your doctor to do a blood test? Also did you see the actual test results and the reference ranges on the testing done on the family members who are negative but diet proven? There are times when someones test results are only a degree or so into the positive range and a doctor will call it a negative. Although the medical community seems...
  2. For me hair loss is directly attributed to celiac. I had lost almost half my hair and it had turned almost all white by the time I was diagnosed. It began growing back in a few weeks after I went gluten-free, and what is growing in is brown. I attributed it at first to vitamin deficincies but as I have come to realize it is just for me another part of...
  3. Yes it is possible. I stopped coloring my hair so I can watch the gray go away After losing a lot of it and being almost white on top and in front my hair is growing back in brown. Loreal makes some gluten free hair colors, I used to use their semipermanent one although I can't think of the name now. They will tell you though if you call or email what...
  4. This does not happen to me but I do know that it does with my son. I get sores usually on my scalp but he gets them around his lips, mostly in the corners.
  5. This happened to me. I eventually went through a very early menapause and even tough my OBGYN said my periods might come back after 4 years gluten-free they still haven't. Most of my menapause symptoms, or what they said were from that, hot flashes etc. did go away though they do reappear if I am glutened.
  6. My animals health has improved greatly since I switched them to a totally grain free food. The one cat who would eat until he literally threw up at least 4 times a day has stopped doing that and his hair has grown back where he had always had a bald spot. He is also more energetic and can even be caught playing again. He has also lost about 5 lbs. He...
  7. Casein intolerance can have the same symptoms as gluten intolerance. Lactose intolerance usually has symptoms that are strongly GI related only. And lactose intolerance will show up very quickly. For example with a casien intolerance the reaction will be more systemic and often delayed - at times a day or so, with a lactose intolerance the symptoms are...
  8. Thanks for posting this.
  9. I agree totally with this. You need to do something that will give you an obvious reaction to know for sure. If you add it back in drips and drabs you are not going to know. Think about the gluten symptoms and get some symptom relief like immodium and an antiacid to keep on hand in case you need them. Then go grab that bagel or some triscuits.
  10. Don't forget you have a reason to buy new jewelry now too.
  11. Hi Lister, I know you have been see-sawing about whether or not gluten is at the root of your problems and the challenge should give you a definite answer. When you add wheat back in you should ideally make sure it is a just wheat product. Something like cream of wheat or triscuits is good. Have some about three times a day but don't overdo it. In...
  12. You can have gluten intolerance and still show up negative on blood tests. This happened to me even as an adult and it is even more common in children. This negative statis can often change which is why in countries where they routinely test children that are 'asymptomatic' they do it at about 4 and again at 11 to 12. In my opinion your withholding gluten...
  13. Since my GERD is definately celiac related I avoid scripts, by the time most act the gluten reaction for me is over anyway. I use pepto bismal, it relieves the pain and the nausea almost immediately and I rarely need a second dose. It does darken the stool for a day or so, that's normal.
  14. As a celiac who presented with neuro symptoms 30 years before the GI ones set in with severity (IBS!!!!!!) I appretiate your post. I even had the calcifications show up on an MRI and was told they were 'UBO's unidentified bright objects. I was also told by more than one US neuro that they were nothing and not the reason for my problems. Here have a prozac...
  15. Thank you for the links folks. I didn't realize that a latex allergy could cause delayed GI symptoms. I don't know if I will ever know for sure what got me but I am starting to lean more toward the latex. I will definately ask the oral surgeon to make sure we consider me latex allergic. It seems like the safe thing to do. Thanks again.
  16. Well unless latex can cause gluten type GI symtoms I am now certain I was glutened. I have spent the last four hours doing my gluten purge. No bleeding this time at least. At least the migraine has eased. I won't go back to this guy except to grab my finished crowns and take them to the oral surgeon. I had at least 4 more appointment s to go to finish...
  17. I am so glad you are recovering. I am still amazed at what a difference a change in dietary habits can make. I am glad it helped you.
  18. When I reintroduced dairy I did it like you with hard cheeses and gluten free yogurt. I was able to tolerate them with no problems and after a month or so I tried gluten-free ice cream and then started using milk in my cereal. I took it slow and had no problems. I should note that a large glass of milk, much as I love it with a cookie or two will still...
  19. Hi, Thanks you all for your responses. I looked a bit into the latex thing and found some pics that look just like the reaction I had when they pulled the last tooth. It also described the effect of your gums dissolving, something I experienced also, and am again. The blisters I have this time look like the ones I get on my skin, I have DH. I will know...
  20. Yea they even took the sugar out of my chocolate.
  21. My dentist went elsewhere. She had checked everything she used and never poisoned me. I am now going to her partner. I had a talking visit yesterday. The only thing he did was look at my teeth and run his gloved finger over my gums. Well within a couple hours I had blisters on the areas he touched and this am I am clearly poisoned. At the end of the...
  22. The spices that McCormick makes that have just the spice listed are just that, only the spice. On their mixes they will list all ingredients without hiding any. Personally I just use their 'pure' spices with the exception of their Garam Marsela which is a mixture. I have never had any issues with those.
  23. It is possible, my DH was positive in blood work for celiac but had no malnutritive deficits. His iron, B12 and the rest were in normal ranges.
  24. Some celiacs, in my personal experience it seems to be those of us with skin or neuro symptoms, will react to gluten grain derived vinagers and alcohols. I break out in a DH rash within hours and suffer the same reaction that I do to an accidental glutening. Not all of us react though. I personally use only vinagers derived from corn or wood. Heinz white...
  25. Your right it is a personal choice about whether we want to poison ourselves or not. I did not have this forum when I was first diagnosed and I thought it would be okay to do things like eat at a restaurant or a freinds house. No forum 'scared' me into avoiding things like a stuffed turkey---- days of illness and bleeding from my intestines did. No forum...
