ARCHIVED Testing
cruelshoes replied to trhutton's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

I already do think for myself and I already have researched it. I also don't believe much of anything that higher ups say, whether or not they work for the government. Good luck with whatever you do with your kids. I have confidence in the decisions I have made for mine.

ARCHIVED Anemia And celiac disease - How Long To See Improvement?
cruelshoes replied to sammie210's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Pre-DX I was anemic enough to require frequent iron infusions. I was like you - the doctor said "why are you walking around? you should be passed out!" It would get to the point where I could not walk up a flight of staris without holding on to my husband's arm and stopping in the middle to rest. Since I went gluten-free, I have had iron in the normal... -
I find the idea that our government (that is seemingly incapable of coordinating much of anything) has embaked on a massive innoculation campaign to make its own people ill just a liiiiiiiitle hard to believe.

ARCHIVED Frustrated Mom
cruelshoes replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I can't tell from the original post if your son has symptoms when he eats gluten. Aside from slowed growth, what are his other symptoms? Could you talk with him and get him to connect things he is feeling with what he has eaten? When your son goes out with friends, are you helping him plan ahead and have treats to take with him? I think it would... -
ARCHIVED I Can't Give Up My Dr. Pepper
cruelshoes replied to Lockheed's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dr Pepper products are gluten-free, according to their website. Open Original Shared LinkOpen Original Shared Link I think it tastes like battery acid, but whatever floats your boat. It might not be all that good for you because of the high fructose corn syrup, but it does not contain gluten. See? That wasn't so bad, was it? -
Having an autoimmune disease does not necessarily predispose one to catching more things than anyone else. It is not the same thing as having a compromised immune system. Our bodies see gluten as a threat, and in a misplaced attempt to oust the invader, attacks the villi. Having had shingles (got it while I was on cancer treatment and my immune system...

ARCHIVED American Celiac Disease Alliance
cruelshoes replied to Lisa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
An update posted on the delphi forum today: So far the ACDA has received just shy of 1800 school lunch surveys. We have a major meeting later this week with a group of folks who are interested in getting a gluten-free lunch program launched for the upcoming school year. We would really like to reach 2000 surveys by the end of this week. Thanks... -

ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!
cruelshoes replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, Auntie Lurlynn. I have very dry skin as well. I am a big loser cheater, but I actually mix my EM into my moisturizer and apply it that way. Then I let the moisturizer set for 5 or 10 minutes and buff it in. I get a nice even coat, and no snowy caky face. I use the original glo, the other formulations are just too drying for my face. OK - today... -
ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!

Here are all the blues I got. Plane View - more to the gray side Starlit - a blue/gray/green mix with a silvery sheen Happy Go Lucky - more toward the periwinkle side, but not nearly as dramatic as the picture on the EM site Bubble Tea - a lot like starlit with more turquise in it Bird Bath - a grayer blue I chose bubble tea on the lid... -
ARCHIVED What Can I Make For Bread?
cruelshoes replied to kjbrown92's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Gluten is a general term for protein storage in cereal grains. Many grains contain gluten (corn, for example), but it is not in the form of gliadin so it does not cause celiacs trouble. Gliadin is the name for the protein present in wheat and several other cereals within the grass genus Triticum (wheat, barley, rye, spelt, einkorn, emmer, durum and others... -
ARCHIVED What Can I Make For Bread?
cruelshoes replied to kjbrown92's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Removing rice from the equation makes things a bit more challenging, but it is still doable. There are many other gluten-free flours besides quinoa (which does not contain gliadin BTW) and buckwheat. Can your son tolerate any of these? Tapioca starch/flour Coconut flour Teff Flour Amaranth Flour Sorghum (closely related to corn, so that one might... -
ARCHIVED Dough Rides Up Mixer, What To Do?
cruelshoes replied to IMWalt's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The dough is climbing up the beaters because a hand mixer is generally not powerful enough to handle gluten-free bread dough. The beaters are not rotating with enough force/speed to prevent it. Do you have a stand mixer you could use? A Kitchenaid or other similar mixer works very well for mixing stiff gluten-free bread dough. I'm not sure there is a... -
ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!
cruelshoes replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My order came yesterday!!! I am so in love with the blue shadows I ordered. They are all pretty much the same, with subtle differences. I probably could have gotten away with only one, but I am a girl who likes choices! Today I chose Starlit. it is the perfecto combination of blue/green/gray. It will go with a lot of my clothes. When they said... -
It generally takes me about 3 weeks to fully recover. Each person is different, though, with some rebounding more quickly and some taking longer. It's highly individual. Hope this helps.

ARCHIVED Please, I Need Your Advice
cruelshoes replied to Puddy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
To me, the argument of whether to test or not really boils down to what do you need in order to be compliant? For me, I wanted the iron clad diagnosis. I have it in black and white, with no equivocation. I know 100% that I cannot cheat, because of the diagnosis. I also wanted that for my son, because he is also a lot like me, and I knew I was going to... -
ARCHIVED Chicken Bouillon Cubes
cruelshoes replied to Amanda C.'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We use this one too. It tastes better than any boullion cubes I have had. Delicious! -
ARCHIVED Berry Pebbles
cruelshoes replied to purple's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Products made with mainstram oats are generally not safe for celiacs. Oats can be contaminated with gluten grains in growing/storing/processing. Really, the only safe oats for us are the ones that are grown in dedicated fields. The oats in the Kix you are eating are mainstream oats, and are very likely to have gluten contamintion. Lack of outward symptoms... -

Welcome to the board. I'm sorry you are having difficulties. Some people are just Open Original Shared Link. It's about one in 600 people, and is more common in causasians. In that case, the doctors should run the IgG versions of the tests. There is an IgG version of the TtG (Anti-tissue Transglutaminase Antibody). There is also an IgG version of the... -
ARCHIVED Recipe Books Suggestions
cruelshoes replied to Rhesa's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm sure you will get lots of different answers since people's tastes are so different. My current favorite gluten-free cookbooks are Open Original Shared Linkby Elizabeth Barbone and Open Original Shared Linkby Annalise G. Roberts. I have a few Bette Hagman (RIP) cookbooks, but never make anything out of them. They are more for reference for me. Her... -
ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries
cruelshoes replied to WendyG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Open Original Shared Link. It's a matter of personal choice whether or not you want to eat them, but using the most sensitive commercial test, there is no detectable gluten in McDonald's french fries. -
ARCHIVED Scope Tomorrow
cruelshoes replied to strawberrygm's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
With both the endoscopy and colonoscopy, they are looking for whatever condition(s) may be causing her symptoms. Examples in the endoscopy can include hiatal hernia, reflux, ulcers, and all the way down to the villi damage that is indicative of celiac. My son, in addition to his severely damaged villi, was found to have several large polyps in his stomach... -

I ordered mine on 6/6. I had hoped to get it Friday or Saturday, but it's not here yet. Maybe today? I am going through tracking number withdrawl on the new site! Although, I did ship USPS, and their tracking information is never up to date anyway. -
ARCHIVED Your Favorite Cake Recipe
cruelshoes replied to stolly's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The absolute best gluten-free chocolate cake from scratch I have ever made is this recipe: Open Original Shared Link. I just made it yesterday, in fact, and served it to a whole house full of gluten eaters, and there was not a crumb left. Several people came back for seconds, and were disappointed that there were none.
