  1. Hi Jess8989, Welcome to the forum! If you have been diagnosed with DH, then you have celiac disease. Only people with celiac disease get DH. To test for DH they take a small skin biopsy sample from the area next to a bump/lesion. Then they test it for IgA antibodies. The sample has to be from skin adjacent to but not directly on the lesion...
  2. Hello hopeful, Welcome to the forum! I don't know about URI's and celiac disease myself. But I do know celiac disease can affect any part of the body, if not directly then by nutrient deficiencies. Did you get tested for celiac disease before going gluten-free? If not you should consider doing that right away to find out for sure. Celiac...
  3. Hi Gillian, Welcome to the forum! Four months is pretty early in the recovery process IMHO. That doesn't mean you can't do better and have improved digestion though. In celiac disease, what we eat is our medicine. Or our poison in some cases. So it is very important to choose foods that are good for our body and also easy to digest. Generally...
  4. Dairy is known to cause C for some people. So it makes sense to cut it out for a while to see if that helps. A lot of these issues are things we can only learn about by trying it ourselves. We all have our own individual guts, and have our own individual reactions. So we have to test for those reactions ourselves. There is little help from the medical...
  5. The edit icon functions are correctly showing now Scott. Thanks for the quick fix!
  6. Welcome to the fun house PO'd ! Or the forum I should say. Maybe we should call you "squirrel" from now on? It may seem impossible to live gluten-free at the moment, but there are a lot of us here who are doing it, and have for years. Quite a few of us have additional food intolerances beyond gluten. We may have to be a little creative in the kitchen...
  7. Any kind of meat, fish, avocados, peanuts, peas etc.
  8. Hi Hendo, Welcome to the forum! You do need to keep eating gluten (wheat, rye, barley) until the testing is complete. The first testing step is usually blood antibodies testing, and later an endoscopy (not colonoscopy). The endoscopy is to take biopsy samples of the small intestine for microscopic review. The blood tests are for IgA and IgG...
  9. Hi, If you click the green circle near the thread title it will open a little dialog window. Ciick the follow option you want. Then you'll get an email when a post is made in this thread.
  10. Hi coolsam, Celiac can start at any age. Symptoms are widely varied among people. Some people have no GI symptoms at all but they still have celiac disease. It is certainly possible you have celiac disease or NCGS. Yes, it makes sense to get tested. The testing is a blood test first for antibodies. Then later an endoscopy to check for villi...
  11. I am using Firefox on a desktop, with Windows 10. Yes, it's still happening. Same thing happens in Chrome. The same thing happens on a different computer, notebook using Windows 10 and Firefox.
  12. Jif Natural PB is gluten-free and soy free. And it tastes better than Skippy too. Quaker gluten-free marked rice cakes are ok. You can make corn muffins pretty quick and easy. There is often a recipe on the package of corn meal. I use half masa and half corn meal. A banana added in makes them less crumbly. Mission brand corn tortillas are...
  13. Angry Orchard doesn't like me much. But then I don't feel well after drinking any commercial ciders. I don't think it's gluten, but some other reaction. So that's something to consider, as we can develop reactions to any food ingredient, not just gluten.
  14. Hi Cara, You got it right, staying on gluten until testing is complete is very important. Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition and the testing is looking for antibodies (blood tests) or the damage caused by antibodies (endoscopic biopsy). Since the antibodies start to decline after going gluten-free, the testing results are affected. Celiac...
  15. I assume you are wanting responses from 1. people who have school age children? Or 2. people who are students themselves in some kind of school situation? There is a section of the forum for parents of children with celiac disease. You might find some threads there that would help. https://www.celiac.com/forums/forum/10-celiac-disease...
  16. I'm a recently-diagnosed celiac patient. I also have dairy allergies, Crohn's disease and a colorful array of other autoimmune issues. My dietary requirements (as many of you have also experienced) has forced me to be extremely diligent about the food I eat, eating out, eating with friends, etc. I'm also working as a teacher and attending college for...
  17. OK, another horrible problem has cropped up, for me at least. In the edit window the icons for various editing functions seem to not match the icon pictures. The first icon on left side is what I consider the copy or paste icon, but it links to BOLD text function. The graphic or image insertion icon seems to perform the italic text function. The right...
  18. Hi Rsianmay, No, he shouldn't eat anything with wheat, rye or barely. In addition, it would be best not to feed him oats for 6 months also. !0% of celiacs also react to oats. So if he is eating oats while trying to heal it might confuse things if he does react to them. It would be best to keep him away from all processed foods for a while. It...
  19. Hi Kurasz, Are you still taking the antibiotic? Or can you get a different one prescribed from the wonderful and very unhelpful doctor? A sharp pain could be from various things. A twisted bowel could cause it, or a gall bladder problem. or kidney stones. Sometimes Crohn's patients have blockages caused by narrowing of the intestine due to scar...
  20. There is a video near the bottom of this page that shows how to make the fudge. It's just peanut butter, coconut oil and sweetner (stevia). Heat and stir then refrigerate. Open Original Shared Link
  21. Hi Jm34. You got some really bad advice from your doctor. Celiac disease doesn't go away. Celiac disease is a chronic, incurable, AI (auto-immune) disease. Once you have it, you always have it. We do know the trigger for the auto-immune reaction though, which is gluten. So we can get the antibodies to decline by stopping eating gluten. But that...
  22. I agree, JM34, you would probably benefit from simplifying your diet. It's up to you to make diet changes that will help your body. You can blame your mother and doctors but they aren't forcing you to eat foods that make you sick, right? It may be you have other medical issues besides gluten, but it still makes sense to treat your gluten issue anyway....
  23. Hi Boringandsafe, There is a doctors section of the forum where you can search for doctors people like. Another thing to try is searching for a celiac support group in your area. I think the main thing is to keep her as gf as possible. Neuro issues are slow to improve but they can and do get better in time. A shared oven shouldn't be too problematic...
  24. Maltilol is is one sweeter I avoid. It does cause GI symptoms for me. Pyure is stevia so it's a natural sweetner, not artificial. I agree, some of the artificial sweetners are not so great.
  25. Hi, A slight positive is not a negative. Did they give you the reference ranges with your test results? Open Original Shared Link Usually the full celiac panel will have Anti-endomesial (EMA) IgA DGP IgA DGP IgG Total serum IgA (to determine if you actually make normal levels of Iga). You need to keep eating gluten...
