Hi Brandi, Welcome to the forum! You can try eliminating dairy for now. Dairy is often a problem for celiacs. I don't know where you are but if you can get peppermint tea that may help with getting gas out of the stomach. Pepto Bismol and aspirin can help with pain. If you are having trouble sleeping you can try adjusting your diet to only eat...

ARCHIVED Is it possible for a Celiac disease patient to develop other intolerances?
GFinDC replied to Romeo1990's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Romeo, That's good your vitamins and such are ok. The answer to your question about other intolerances is yes, celiacs can develop other food intolerances beyond gluten. The forum used to show a signature line for each member and often it listed their other food intolerances beyond gluten. That signature line went away an a forum upgrade some... -
ARCHIVED Is it possible for a Celiac disease patient to develop other intolerances?
GFinDC replied to Romeo1990's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Romeo, Have you had your vitamin and mineral levels checked? Celiac can cause mal-absorption and that can cause vitamin deficiencies. Vitamin deficiencies can cause a lot of symptoms. B-vitamins are needed for nerve health. You should have the vitamin levels checked before starting any supplements, as it is possible to have too much of a vitamin... -
ARCHIVED Somebody Help Please!
GFinDC replied to SickInChicago's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello SIC, Welcome to the forum! You are right, healing and recovery can take quite a while. The gluten (gliaden) antibodies will decline over time if you aren't eating gluten. That takes a variable amount of time for each person. In some it could happen quickly, but in others it may take months. The gluten itself doesn't stay in your body long... -
ARCHIVED Feeling confused. Gluten sensitive or celiacs?
GFinDC replied to SuperWhoLock88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your doctor flubbed up big time if he told you to go gluten-free before doing testing. Diagnosis involves both blood tests for gliaden antibodies and an endoscopy to take biopsy samples for gut damage analysis. If you want to get tested now after a month off gluten, you'll need to start eating gluten again for 12 weeks. It's often easier and less painful... -
ARCHIVED Suggestion - FAQ / Intro post for the diagnosis board? - input requested
GFinDC replied to Jmg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It may take a higher level mod to make a change in the text for you JMG. But it might be simpler to just post a modified version when you are ready. I imagine you'd want to make a new thread for the final version anyway instead of pining a thread with multiple comments and corrections? As far as pinning the final thread version, we'd need Scott or... -

That would be great however I don't know anywhere that automatic testing of relatives happens. -
ARCHIVED Newbie
GFinDC replied to Andy1991's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello Andy, It sounds like you have already started the gluten-free diet. If you are waiting for the endoscopy (not colonoscopy), then you should still be eating gluten. Starting the gluten-free diet should wait until all testing is completed and test results known. Other wise the tests won't give accurate results. Your doctor should have told you... -
ARCHIVED Swollen ankles and gluten free diet
GFinDC replied to Lisa-987's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Lisa, I had ankle swelling too. It turned out to be grapes and soy that were causing it for me. Edema is a known symptom of allergies. But most allergy tests only check for IgE reactions, not IgA or IgG reactions. So you could be having reactions to foods you eat that allergy tests won't detect. There aren't many non-IgE tests for food reactions...- 3 replies

ARCHIVED Rice And Mini-Wheats? What's Different About Them?
GFinDC replied to SandraLAVixen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hello Emdee, The Kellog's website says the mini-wheats are made from 100% whole grain wheat. Therefore your statement about them not containing the seed portion of the grain is incorrect. Mini-wheats cereal is not safe for celiacs to eat. Also, rice does contain gluten. Gluten is the name for a protein/carbohydrate molecule found in the kernal... -
ARCHIVED Need some help with symptoms
GFinDC replied to EBLOOM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There have been a lot of people post over the years about doctors refusing to test them or their children. So you have lots of company there. If you try a google search for "celiac support group in xxx" wit xxx being your city/area you may find some. There is also a doctors subsection of the forum where you might find a doctor. https://www.celiac...- 19 replies

ARCHIVED Need some help with symptoms
GFinDC replied to EBLOOM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi EBloom, Well, there has to be a reason you are struggling to maintain your weight. Celiac could explain that as it interferes with absorption of nutrients. Your cholesterol being low is similar to mine when I was undiagnosed. Celiac damage makes it hard to absorb fats so cholesterol numbers go down. Liver enzymes being elevated is also...- 19 replies

ARCHIVED Not diagnosed yet, but could I have celiac's? (symptom list)
GFinDC replied to kcducttaper's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi kcductaper, Some things to think about on the testing or not: There are genes associated with celiac disease. A gene test can tell you if you have the associated genes, but not if you have celiac disease. About 30% of people have those genes in the USA. If you decide to do the celiac testing later for some reason, you will need to eat... -

ARCHIVED May I ask your opinion about a product idea?
GFinDC replied to gluten-free Baker's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi gluten free Baker, Below are the forum rules. I agree they are a little hard to find. Maybe that can be fixed. I think you are ok to post generally about your product but you can't mention a name for it or post a link to a site about it or a site where it is sold. Violations of the self-promotion rule are usually given a warning which can...- 5 replies

Hello gluten free Baker, The forum rules you agreed to when you signed up for an account don't allow for self-promotion. So unless you can tell people about your product without promoting it the answer is no. Sorry!- 5 replies

ARCHIVED Skin Issues from Ceilac's
GFinDC replied to rushingspirit's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Right DH (dermatitis herpetiformis) is a skin reaction associated with celiac disease. There is a section of the forum dedicated to it where you can find more information. Some of our itch-est members hang out there. I think Scratchy is rumored to visit there too. Welcome to the forum! -
ARCHIVED Should I get tested? Advice please.
GFinDC replied to schlafentzug's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Schlafentzug, You can get a Biocard IgA test kit in Australia. They aren't real $$$, and you do the test at home with just a drop of blood. The Biocard test only uses the IgA antibodies, so it is not a complete celiac disease panel. But it is something to start with anyway. The compete celiac antibody test panel wold include: Anti-Gliadin... -
ARCHIVED Any help at all would be amazing, I'm desperate! :)
GFinDC replied to Sarah.e.may9602's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Sarah, I agree with cyclinglady, your doctor doesn't seem to understand celiac disease. Maybe you can check on Google for a local celiac support group. Ask them if they know of any good celiac doctors in your area. The usual testing process for celiac is 12 weeks of eating gluten and then a blood test followed by an endoscopy later. You are... -
ARCHIVED Is what I'm experiencing "normal"? Help!
GFinDC replied to lolobaggins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi lolobaggins, Yes, it is not unusual to have symptoms that come and go after going gluten-free. Edema (swelling) can also be a symptom of an allergic reaction. Fatigue is not fun but remember your body is trying to heal a major organ, your gut. So some rest might be a good idea. The immune system response is going to keep going for several weeks... -
ARCHIVED Should I get tested? Advice please.
GFinDC replied to schlafentzug's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Schlafentzug, The usual diagnosis process is a blood test for antibodies first, followed up by an endoscopy to check for gut damage. You have to eat gluten for 12 weeks before the blood tests. It sounds like your brother may have celiac disease also. His gut lining villi were damaged by something, and villi flattening is a common celiac disease... -
Hi Natalie, The dairy should be eliminated completely for a few weeks at least. It can be hard to tell what food is causing symptoms at first. Dairy is a known problem for many people, even those who don't have celiac disease. Carbs are bad if you are having digestive upset and bloating. The carbs feed the bacteria that make gas in your gut and that...

Hi Natalie, That sounds like how it often goes after beginning the gluten-free diet. We'd like to think that it would be steady progress in the up direction but it seems like our healing goes back and forth a little. The immune system reaction takes a while to settle down, weeks to months. So it is hard for the gut to heal while that reaction is going...

ARCHIVED Potential Celiac Diagnosis?
GFinDC replied to jen4az's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree, it's very unlikely she doesn't have celiac disease. Can you find a local celiac group to get a doctor recommendation from? They might have the best idea of a local doctor who is familiar with celiac disease. There is also a doctors sub-section of this forum which might help find one. https://www.celiac.com/forums/forum/6-celiac-disease-doctors... -
