Man Claims Hookworm Treatment Led to Remission of Celiac Disease
Scott Adams commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
@John Scott, could you please explain your connection with helminthictherapywiki.org and Helminthic therapy? Do you sell these hookworm kits to people? You seem to be an avid supporter of this therapy, so it's fair to explain your connection here, and whether or not you gain anything by pushing such treatments. You mentioned that there is only one type...- 71 comments

Man Claims Hookworm Treatment Led to Remission of Celiac Disease
Scott Adams commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
Thank you for sharing this. I see nothing about this study that would indicate that it was flawed, or that the results can't be trusted. On the contrary, it seems to indicate that hookworms are not a magic bullet for most celiacs, and that @dixonpete should definitely be doing regular celiac blood panels to make sure his antibodies don't start going up again...- 71 comments

We've looked at the ingredients of Planter's Dry Roasted: https://www.planters.com/product/planters-dry-roasted-peanuts-16-oz-jar/ and there are no gluten-containing ingredients, or warning for wheat as an allergen. -

Man Claims Hookworm Treatment Led to Remission of Celiac Disease
Scott Adams commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
We published a study done years ago that was done on the blood from US solders in the 1950's which was has been stored since then and it was determined that there was indeed a lower overall rate of celiac disease in the 1950's compared to today, so yes, it does appear that the rate of celiac disease is increasing.- 71 comments

Got glutened at work yesterday.

It's probably a bit late for the article below, but it may be helpful. Also, there is an enzyme called GliadinX (they are a sponsor here) that has been shown in numerous studies to break down small amounts gluten in the stomach, before it reaches your intestines, and due to your occupation you may want to look into it. There is not easy answer for how... -

This article might help: -
My first question to you is, why do you need an official diagnosis? You've already noted that you can't eat gluten without lots of bad symptoms, and that those symptoms go away when you avoid gluten. There is a condition called non-celiac gluten sensitivity that ~10x more people have than do celiac disease, however, there isn't a test for it yet. Even if...

Man Claims Hookworm Treatment Led to Remission of Celiac Disease
Scott Adams commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
Yes, in fact the average human lifespan has more than doubled in the last 120 years, which can be attributed to better medicine, vaccines, fertilizer, pesticides, access to clean water, better nutrition, increased crop yields, etc. Still, if hookworms can provide what might be the first true cure for celiac disease and allow, at least some of them, to...- 71 comments

NEW TO CELIAC DISEASE
Scott Adams replied to Slayxbella's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not sure, but I think the first ones were around in the early 20th century, and were commonly used in the 1940's and 1950's. Of course, better sanitation, clean water, health inspections in restaurants, etc., have made the use of these drugs decline over time. -
Weeks prior to celiac testing
Scott Adams replied to Demi01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Both of these doctors agree that most with NCGS won't end up with celiac disease, but some will, however, they also believe that most people with NCGS who continue to eat gluten will have a variety of health issues, and some of these could be severe (for example getting Type 1 diabetes or other autoimmune disorder). -
blood tests for celiac
Scott Adams replied to Judi Magner's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A genetic test would give you your probability for having celiac disease, and I to am positive for DQ2 and DQ8--I believe people with both markers have an ~15% of getting celiac disease--but to confirm the diagnosis would require a gluten challenge for at least 6-8 weeks for the blood tests, and at least 2 weeks for a biopsy: -

I'm sorry to hear about your son, and that you've encountered doctors who gave you bad advice--or doctors who didn't recognize celiac disease in your relatives soon enough...this is why I started Celiac.com, and have published over 6,000 articles on celiac disease, and have replied to posts here on a daily basis for over 25 years. I have relatives now who... -
NEW TO CELIAC DISEASE
Scott Adams replied to Slayxbella's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No, I've not seen a correlation between hook or tape work drugs and celiac disease in any studies, nor do I know of a mechanism (or a link) that would explain how such medications taken by my dead grand or great grand parents would somehow trigger celiac disease in their offspring. -

Weeks prior to celiac testing
Scott Adams replied to Demi01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
By the way, there are medical experts like Dr. Kenneth Fine and Dr. Rodney Ford who believe that many with non-celiac gluten sensitivity are actually in an early stage of celiac disease, and that "gluten sensitivity" is the actual broader disorder (and those with celiac disease just make up a small portion of this group)--and that every one who is gluten... -

@Craig Simms, blaming a board member here for killing your son and family members--a person who happens to have volunteered to be a moderator and spends lots of his personal time helping others here with the many issues surrounding gluten sensitivity and celiac disease--is just wrong, so please don't do that. Weeks prior to celiac testing
Scott Adams replied to Demi01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
After all these years I can't say that diagnosed celiacs cheat less than those with non-celiac gluten sensitivity, or those who are self diagnosed, but I understand wanting to know for sure whether you have the more serious version of the two. Hopefully your doctor will run a full celiac blood panel which should give you an answer, and here is more about... -
Weeks prior to celiac testing
Scott Adams replied to Demi01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My position on doing a gluten challenge comes down to what exactly is your motivation for doing it? You already know that you can't have gluten, so why consume it at all? What if the biopsy is normal, will you eat gluten? I tend to doubt it based on the symptoms you've described, many of which are neurological in nature. For those celiacs who have... -

NEW TO CELIAC DISEASE
Scott Adams replied to Slayxbella's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not in any way endorsing this treatment, as a gluten-free diet is, at least for me, no big deal now, but the Helminthic Therapy wiki and Helminthic therapy and gluten-related disorders have more info, and I didn't realize that there have been published studies on this in relation to gluten issues. -
