ARCHIVED Anti-depression Meds
Canadian Karen replied to dionnek's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi! I can sooooo relate..... My collagenous colitis is very nocturnal - up most of the night as that is when it decides to be most active..... In regards to anti-depressants, it's hard to give advice unless I know what country you are in. What's gluten free in Canada may not be gluten free somewhere else. To that regard, in Canada, both Prozac and... -

Congratulations on finding some success with the gluten-free diet! Well, Kraft you are safe with as they will clearly list if gluten is in it. Kraft is a very celiac friendly company, it's one of our favourites...... I use Hellman's mayonnaise, and I found this on the delphi gluten free list: Hellman’s (Best Foods) (www.best-foods.com) (vw=2/1/06... -

ARCHIVED I Didn't Know I Was Supposed To Refrigerate Maple Syrup
Canadian Karen replied to elaine33's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just checked our Aunt Jemima - it doesn't say to refridgerate it - thank goodness, as we never do...... Perhaps because it is pure maple syrup, it doesn't have any preservatives in it? Dunno........ Just trying to picture refridgerating maple syrup and then trying to use it - I imagine it would come out slower than molasses!!!! Karen -

I won't eat Amy's anymore. Amy's Shepherd's Pie got me big time! I was in incredible pain after eating that. Hope you feel better soon! Hugs. Karen -
All I can say is WOW! Firstly, your son is a child to be proud of and a fine example of high morals and standards for code of conduct. He also has the capacity to show compassion for those who are vulnerable, and in my books, that makes him one heck of a fine example of what today's youth should be like, but unfortunately, all too often fall short......

Hi and Welcome! I'm glad you got your answers without having to go years and years searching because the medical community is woefully uneducated about this disease! You lucked out with that GI! You go and kick some butt in the nursing field! Every single person spreading the news about this disease helps!!!! Hugs. Karen -

Hi Pat! It's wonderful news that your bloodwork is going down! And you are right, it's boards like this that are educating us properly, cuz Heaven knows, if we had to depend on the medical community/dieticians, etc., we would be woefully lost!!! LOL! Welcome! Karen -
ARCHIVED Brain Cancer
Canadian Karen replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The principal at my husband's school had brain cancer about three years ago. She had the surgery, was off for 1/2 year, and then back stronger than ever! She's still the principal there........ no signs of recurrence... Prayer being said here too........ Hugs. Karen -
Hi and Welcome! I'm glad you found us - there are sooooo many here who have discovered the benefits of gluten-free living without actually going through the gauntlet getting an official diagnosis. The best way to determine if you have a problem with gluten is by applying the diet anyway, as both bloodwork and biopsies have a high rate of false negatives...

This is exactly why I took the angle of trying to educate the insurance companies as to the effects and financial ramifications of celiac disease. If we wait for the pharmaceutical industry to do anything, we will be waiting a lifetime, but if the insurance industry clues into the amount of money they are losing to this disease, they just might be a strong... -

Driving through the drive-thru bank machine to make a withdrawal....... One of my twin boys who is 5, makes this observation: "Mom, you have to give the banks money before they will give you any back, right Mom?" Ah, the joys of having an observant child! LOL! -
ARCHIVED As News Gets Out...i Have Celiac Disease
Canadian Karen replied to Lisa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow! My hands would have gone right under that tray and shoved it up in her face! I would have then gone on to explain that gluten makes my extremities do uncontrollable movements when I get exposed to gluten (darned neurological damage!) and therefore I was not responsible for what happens to them when someone brings glutened goodies too close to my nose... -

) Actually, I am on the other end of the spectrum...... It always ticks me when I hear or read articles saying once you start the gluten-free diet, "PRESTO"!!!! all your troubles go away..... I, for one, wish that were the case...... I like it acknowledged every once in awhile that even those who religiously follow the gluten... -

Hi! I'm glad you found that Kinnikinnick has bread that makes this diet just that much more tolerable! LOL! I have found a trick regarding their english muffins. Keep them frozen in the freezer, and take one out as needed. Microwave it for 50 seconds, take it out, flip it over and leave it on the counter for about 4 - 5 minutes. Then slice it in... -

Laura, Obviously, this guy has spent so much time looking at a$$holes, that he actually became one! Is this guy vying for the "I Am The Doctor Most Like House" award? It is simply unfathomable that a doctor would treat you that way. Why doesn't it surprise me though? Really, it's because of flaming jerks like this guy that we go undiagnosed for... -
