ARCHIVED What Is The Worst That Can Happen?
cassP replied to katiekay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
there are so many things that can go wrong in your body if you continue to eat gluten, and they dont even ever have to manifest in your gut... speaking from my family's relationship to gluten-> you could lose your mind, or your thyroid, or develop heart disease, have miscarriages, or develop fertility issues. -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Positive, Dna Postive, Biopsy Neg. Celiac?
cassP replied to greenhillsfive's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
i dont think his autism has anything to do with how well you stuck to the gluten free diet while pregnant. imho, he has some of your genetics.. and autism seems to be more common amongst people with autoimmune genetics. there must be some sort of link as most kids with autism improve on a gluten & casein free diet. i know some members may disagree with... -
ARCHIVED Need Help With Blood Test Results
cassP replied to milz45's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
your DQ2 gene puts you at risk for developing Celiac Disease. it doesnt mean you have it- it only means you are genetically predisposed to it. your celiac panel is negative- however you were gluten free for so long- that i would completely consider your panel INACCURATE ..completely null and void. the allergy results are seperate from intolerances ... -
ARCHIVED Dna Test Negative
cassP replied to annegirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
hey- an elevated ANA just indicates that you probably have some autoimmune action going on in your body. it doesnt necessarily pinpoint to any one- altho what the result looks like may be associated with certain diseases. i had an elevated "speckled" ANA at 15 years old- and a "butterfly rash" on my face- so for 2 years they tested me for Lupus, and... -
ARCHIVED Question About Implication Of Genetic Testing
cassP replied to Flor's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
i think in some ways- im a very smart person.. but i think its obvious i am not going to become a Geneticist i mean- i can understand all these links & risks & symptoms better than most of my docs- but those dang numbers & letters u guys are posting are hurting my brain my brain just does fine with only the "subtype" numbers -
thanku! and that sucks

ARCHIVED Question About Implication Of Genetic Testing
cassP replied to Flor's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
i think the reason why Enterolab only tests 1 1/2 of each allelle- is because it's cheaper. i THINK. i also think (altho i could be wrong ) that if you have 2 copies of the same gene- it COULD make that person even more vulnerable? but im just thinking outloud. and i dont doubt at all that your kid had all those autoimmune reactions and reactions to... -
ARCHIVED Thryoid Question
cassP replied to nuttmegs17's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
YES MsCurious- you definitely should always ask for a copy of your test results... i just developed this habit last year- and looking at everything they've missed in the past- i will ALWAYS get copies. in fact- 2 labs ago- i had them mail me my Thyroid results & Vit. D test- thank God i did- because otherwise i wouldnt have known that i was Vitamin D... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Deficiency
cassP replied to dube's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
just got mine tested 6 weeks ago- and im at a "26". completely makes sense now- as im having horrific muscle spasm pain everyday. ive been taking 4,000 to 6,000 iu everyday. ive noticed less pain & spasms. ive just been dosing myself since my doctor neglected to tell me anything. i only knew im deficient cause i always ask them to mail me my results... -

ARCHIVED Question About Implication Of Genetic Testing
cassP replied to Flor's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Flor: ok, im not a doctor or a scientist- so this explanation is gonna sound elementary & amateurish... but i THINK- for example: your son has 1 DQ2 & 1 DQ6. if these are "allelles".. i believe we only have 2- 1 from the mom and 1 from the dad. enterolab DOES test for the 2 allelles... but ONLY EITHER the "alpha" or the "beta" part of the allelle... -
sorry to tell u this- but i got mine at whole foods... i wanna say that "Ener G" company made it (dont know if that's their name)... maybe u could find it online? im GUESSING that rice bran might give the mix a LITTLE "stick" MAYBE... because some recipes call for Flax Meal and the flax meal gives it a little stick... but again- i am guessing. if...

ARCHIVED Your Opinion On If This Is Safe Please!
cassP replied to 11475's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
do u have the receipt? can u return it? i personally would not partake in it. i used to actually take a product called Kyogreen. it also said "gluten free", and had barley & wheat grass.. i used to mix it in my pineapple juice- it was DELISH- it always kind of gave me a little intestinal suspicious behavior- but it could have been the F.O.S. in it... -
ARCHIVED Tuesday'-Whatcha Eating Today Celiacs?
cassP replied to catsmeow's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
2 cups coffee with sugar free nestle creamer. 1 egg spinach omelette w/ mozzarella & curry powder. 1/2 Redwood hill farms Goat Yogurt Vanilla w/ 1 tbsp. gluten-free rolled oats & 1/5 of a banana. 3 brazil nuts. frozen mocha (& a lactaid ) the last few sips of my green smoothie from yesterday & a couple of rice crackers... -
ARCHIVED Baking Desserts - From Scratch Or The Box?
cassP replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
ok, it's been awhile since i baked. as far as gluten-free brownies- ive had best luck with betty crocker's gluten-free box. in fact it's the only box that ive actually liked. most of them taste awful- with choco chip cookies- i usually do the tollhouse recipe with gluten-free oat flour & gluten-free soy flour. its delish. i tried coconut flour... -
r u sure??? about the Crest Pro-rinse ?? i always get their brand that's alcohol free... i actually just tried to find something on their site- and it said that none of the ingredients included gluten, but that they could not guarantee there were not trace amounts... OY VEY :/

ARCHIVED Suppressed Immune System With Celiac?
cassP replied to RebeccaLynn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
have you had your Vitamin D levels or your Thyroid checked??? both can lead to getting sick a lot -
isnt it ground up animal bones?? i'll eat salmon bones... but regular animal bones bothers me- i dont even know WHAT animals they are... i dont eat pig.. and i would be scared of mad cow if they used cow bones would the cake come out that bad without the gelatin?? i know it would probably help give it the structure that gluten normally would- but ive had...

ARCHIVED Thryoid Question
cassP replied to nuttmegs17's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
hey- my lab/docs didnt have the DGP test yet either... it is fairly new. and keep on top of everything till u get the answers you need- also- the hair falling out is more thyroid related (i guess it could be celiac related if you had really bad vitamin deficiencies). and the DH rash only occurs in 20% of Celiacs- so you dont have to have the rash either... -
ARCHIVED Thryoid Question
cassP replied to nuttmegs17's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
no, it's not true. if you have TPO antibodies present- higher than "within range"- you DO have Hashimoto's. and you SHOULD be treated. you need to get yourself a different doctor. it's the Antithyroglobulin Antibodies that can be present in both Hashimoto's and Grave's patients. and then the TSI (Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin Antibodies) are... -
ARCHIVED Dna Test Negative
cassP replied to annegirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
yes Anne- you do NOT have to have a DQ2 or a DQ8 to have Gluten Intolerance or CELIAC... there are other DQ genes that can MOST DEFINITELY lead to either. do not feel bad or unidentifiable... you're just not "classic" or "textbook". you probably dont want to spend money on the Enterolab gene test after already doing the other test- but they DO test for... -
im also celiac with hashimoto's and graves. i also have additional intolerances including corn. im trying to avoid the soy- as it aggravates the grave's antibodies. from what i understand- especially from reading on this forum- it is DEFINITELy possible after being gluten free for some time (sometimes at least 5 years)-> to end up lowering your thyroid...

i believe Celiac can bring on Hashimoto's ... or even Hashimoto's bringing on Celiac. or just gluten bringing on both of them... for sure they're their own autoimmune diseases- but they sometimes are directly linked. i recently read that the TTG antibodies themselves can stick to the thyroid tissue..
