  1. I second the recommendation to temporarily remove iodine from your diet. I got glutened two months ago, and because there's iodine in my thyroid medications, it's like a match was lit by the gluten....and the iodine is continuing to allow it to burn. I'm still breaking out daily with new blisters. It's pure hell! So, please, do try to remove the iodine...
  2. I, too, felt your sadness once. I lost a baby to miscarriage, and then I cried for two years because I suffered from infertility. I didn't realize that I had celiac disease. Finally, I took Clomid to get pregnant, and luckily was able to become pregnant the very first month and carry my daughter until she was full term. However, a year later when I became...
  3. Sorry, no transdermal iron--and don't try pulverizing the tablets and taking them sublingually. I tried that, and my teeth turned black! It took years for the teeth to turn gray and eventually turn a dingy cream color. If you seriously cannot take oral iron, you can request intravenous iron infusions. Many of us who are iron deficient and can't absorb...
  4. I don't think you're going to receive information on any medical resources regarding the inhaling of gluten molecules, but you might get some anecdotal information from people with experience on this forum. I know someone who has been diagnosed with celiac, and he used to work in a bakery. He claims to be unable to inhale any gluten now, or he becomes extremely...
  5. Have you yet tried Co-Enzyme B-Complex Caps by Country Life? A number of us here on the Forum take this particular B-complex vitamin and have been happy with it. I wish you luck in finding someone who understands vitamins--at celiac conferences, the dietitians who speak oftentimes say that very few nutritionists and dietitians really understand how to...
  6. Please don't go away because of a system glitch! We're a very open, compassionate group of people. If you need information, advice, or just someone to listen, we're all here for you. Please don't stop posting--we want to hear your voice!
  7. If you KNOW she has celiac, why are you continuing to feed her gluten? I don't understand. What more can the expert in Denver tell you that you don't already know? Did she have a positive blood test and you're now waiting for a biopsy? If so, it's really quite unnecessary. False positives on blood tests for celiac are quite rare. You can pretty much...
  8. Oftentimes problems with joints can be resolved with taking Manganese, which is essential for joint health. Bovine collagen can be helpful, too. Have you been tested yet for thyroid problems? Having thyroid issues can cause carpal tunnel and other tendon problems. It's very common for people with celiac to have thyroid problems (especially Hashimoto's...
  9. Well, I had tried a lot of blood pressure meds, but they all disagreed with me--especially Lisinopril! After only one dose, I went for a jog and began to feel sick to my stomach. I wandered home and began projectile vomiting moments after arriving. I felt as though I was going to faint, so my husband drove me to the Emergency Room. There they discovered...
  10. If you want a definitive answer, you might try seeing a dermatologist. However, MOST dermatologists have never learned how to correctly biopsy Dermatitis Herpetiformis. Be sure to tell the doctor that you have been diagnosed with celiac and that you suspect that it "might" be DH. The doctor will want to diagnose you with acne without looking any further...
  11. First, I am so very, very sorry about your mom's passing. How difficult a time this must be for you! The times when people try to "help" or "celebrate" something with you can be the worst. Even people who know how to prepare meals gluten free can make mistakes because of contamination--it's hard to prepare gluten-free meals in a kitchen where wheat flour...
  12. I love my gluten-free mac and cheese! I didn't need to change my recipe except to substitute gluten-free flour for the wheat flour. As for the Tinkiyada pasta, yes, you'll need to undercook it--al dente is fine, but that occurs several minutes earlier than the directions say....so you might test it. As for freezing, I've never tried freezing mac and cheese...
  13. ....however, a study came out a few years ago that stated that products manufactured on shared equipment have a 70% chance of being contaminated. If the product is manufactured in a plant where wheat is also processed, then there's a 30% chance of contamination. So, I guess it depends on your level of sensitivity and luck. Personally, I NEVER eat products...
  14. A great diet is outlined in "Primal Body, Primal Mind," a book by Nora Gedgaudes. No grains, no dairy, and no fruit (or very little). It's easy to follow, and I feel great eating the way early man used to
  15. At celiac conferences, some experts claim that celiac is now considered a neurological disease and not simply a disease of the gut. Your brother's doctor didn't get the memo, I guess. Not only can the damage from celiac be evidenced from the white matter you describe....but also there's evidence that there can be reduced bloodflow to the frontal lobes of...
  16. Regarding whether or not it's normal for a celiac to be overweight, the answer is YES! Your doctor is living in the Old Ages. They USED to teach that in medical school, and it's quite inaccurate. From what I've learned at conferences on celiac, it's much more common for a celiac to be overweight than underweight. Reasons include nutritional deficiencies...
  17. I sometimes eat apple slices with cheddar cheese, a cut-up avocado, or salami with cheese and crackers. Nuts are also good, and you can substitute a nut butter for the cheese when eating apple slices. Grapes are good, too...
  18. Your husband is wise to get his lymph nodes checked out--for some reason, celiacs run a higher chance of developing lymphoma (perhaps his mother had celiac, too?).
  19. I like the Desert Essence Organics line made with essential oils.
  20. Just wanted to add to the conversation that you might wish to try something to alleviate the deep muscle aches/pains, which some (if not most) of us get. From my reading, muscle pain can be a result of low oxygenation of your body's cells (which can be caused by any number of things, but appears to be common in celiacs perhaps because of nutritional deficiencies...
  21. I, too, think that your son has DH--it sure looks like it! If you can't find a dermatologist who is experienced with biopsying DH (and even if they say they ARE), make sure that whoever you find to do the biopsy takes the biopsy from clear skin ADJACENT to a lesion. If a biopsy is taken from a lesion itself, it will result in a negative pathology. This...
  22. I received an e-mail yesterday from celiac.com with this article: https://www.celiac.com/articles/22894/1/CeliacAid---Your-First-Aid-Kit-Against-Accidental-Gluten-Exposure/Page1.html It describes a product called CeliacAid that supposedly digests gluten in the stomach so that it never causes a reaction in the small intestine. It's supposed to be taken...
  23. Have you eliminated all soy? Soy, by the way, is in almost everything (especially mayonnaise, tuna, and salad dressings). Many products didn't used to contain soy (mainly soybean oil), but they've now added it. Take a look at the ingredients of the foods you tend to eat--believe me, you'll find lots of soy. Many of us celiacs can't tolerate soy, so perhaps...
  24. When I visited Disneyland four years ago, I wanted to stay and live there permanently. It was like living in a gluten-free city--it was wonderful! When you arrive, simply walk up to the information booth and request the gluten-free food list. Almost every single restaurant offers gluten-free meals (pasta, pizza, hamburger buns--you name it!). I have never...
  25. Five years ago I read that 70% of Italian restaurants offer a gluten-free menu. I would suppose that that number is probably even higher now. I've also read that they have some terrific gluten-free products. I visited pre-celiac diagnosis, too, and would love to return. Have a wonderful trip!
