  2. laughing here -- because of the "trendiness" of gluten-free -- don't want to get into that -- but my kids friends ALL want my food when i bring it along -- I just label things with my name and -- please do not touch
  3. You have every right to be cranky. Unfortunately - many of us have had many experiences just like this with our doctors....even more unfortunate is even the top doctors in their specialties do not often look at the entire patient - they treat symptoms not the whole body. IMO - the worst sentence uttered by nearly every doctor I met with for several decades...
  4. Had to laugh - not at anyone - but I live in California and we have the same issues with eating safely as every other celiac on this planet. Sure there are pockets of our state that do better than other parts of the state - but I think this is the same everywhere - I've had wonderful experiences in NY state and Illinois - I've found rural areas superior...
  5. In Your Eyes -- Peter Gabriel
  6. "HEALTHY FOOD Healthy food alternatives including salads, vegetarian and gluten free entrees are available throughout Petco Park and at the Friar Fit cart located in the Mercado (Section 104)." Pulled from the A,B,Cs of Petco -- sounds like they have indeed added a bit...will have one of the guys check in this weekend -- they don't come here often --...
  7. Welcome Ryan!!! Take a read through this thread -- and the "what's for Breakfast" and "what's for Lunch" threads -- oodles of great ideas within these pages. Also, make sure you read the "Newbie 101" thread -- it gives a huge "fast-forward" on making the transition to gluten-free! Hang in there and come on back and let us know what you had for dinner
  8. Petco Park here in San Diego has a gluten-free hot dog stand - completely seperate from all other concessions - men heading to the first game of the season on Friday night - son looking forward to seeing if the gluten-free stand has more options this season. Great thread!
  9. Forgot to defrost meat before I left the house today -- sooooo -- breakfast for dinner -- waffles, bacon, eggs, etc for the men and I'll punt. Oh I did make lemon "brownies" -- now I know these as lemon bars -- but saw a new recipe in the funny pages that called them lemon brownies -- so it caught my eye...they look and smell yummy -- just made lemon...
  10. Hello! So your son is 6? Does he attend school? -- Are they careful in the classroom and at the lunch table? Does he visit friends or family regularly? -- again - how careful? How many gluten eaters are in your home? Does everyone wash their hands after handing gluten items? Something is keeping the antibodies producing -- you need...
  11. My Mom overcooked everything - when I left home at 18 and taught myself to cook - I was amazed that everything tasted good! Still love fresh peas off the vine - sure hope I get them back this year. My "garden" will be growing heirloom peas and tomatoes for trialing - can't wait
  12. Listen to Bunnie...if and be sure you accidentally ingested gluten - add charcoal and rest along with drinking lots of water - eating what you are able - more water and rest until it passes.
  13. I would go with glutino pretzels dipped generously in Nutella. Jerky is better...yet sadly not as fun.
  14. I was actually being a bad girl....you had to know Nana - my Sis - yep the same one that I sneak cauliflower into her Mac and Cheez was looking at me like I was alien while downing fresh peas and grn beans - she may have been right - I am an odd duck.
  15. There is no way to give you an "I feel better" date. We are all different, diagnosed at different stages and with different levels of damage. Here is what you can count on: Strict removal of gluten - including removing any possible cross-contamination - will bring / restore health. Hang in there - read as much as you can
  16. Thank you Shadow...I. Can. Smell. It. Already.
  17. Hi all - late to this party and sadly late for my garden plans this year - we are well into spring here - hey don't judge - I would rather be in snow Did manage to get herbs and three heirloom tomatoes planted on the patio - am looking forward to trying all these little green, yellow and red babies one day soon. Ps...addie..with you...my Nana had...
  18. Welcome! Yes...I well remember those first weeks and months - you have had excellent advice from everyone - do make sure you take advantage of the UoChicago Care Pack that KarenG posted. Hang in there - it definately gets better
  19. Hi Q! Awesome news about the "fog" - keep up the great detective work figuring out what food YOUR body needs
  20. Oh Sweetie - Welcome! I hate seeing that another is experiencing the frustration I lived for far too long...you have had excellent advice from the previous posters. Do let us know if you have more questions
  21. Always On My Mind -- Willie Nelson Patti!! Good to see you : )
  22. Hi Dee Ho Good Neighbors.... Today was pretty darn good -- visited Mom early and did her PT with her until we can line up the professionals -- walked out her new front door to check out the neighbors gardens and then when home to begin procrastination of study -- second Biology Midterm -- how can you have two Midterms???? Should be Test #1, Test #2 and...
  23. Cinnamon Girl -- Neil Young
  24. Ditto...super duper sensitive for three of six in our family -- four years and have yet to have a problem with our dishes -- except for early days when our German exchange student refused to understand why he had to use a certain pot for "his" pasta and that wasn't a dishwashing issue -- it was a laziness issue on his part!!!
  25. Agreed. My apologies if my post was unclear: I firmly believe a newly diagnosed celiac needs to ONLY remove gluten for the first six months -- perhaps dairy IF they note a problem with it.
