ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test But Doctor Suggesting That I Eat Wheat?
JillianLindsay replied to KristenInWA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Kristen, Welcome You're right, your DR will likely move on to a biopsy (done by endoscopy), and in order for the biopsy to be accurate, you still have to be ingesting gluten. I (and a great many like us) went through this same thing over the summer. I basically knew what was wrong and how to start treating it, yet had to continue benig extremely... -
Yes, I did this, but it used to be two steps less as you could just check the box before hitting submit. I think I can handle a couple extra clicks if this is the case though Thanks!

It looks better, but I'm finding it more difficult to find what I'm looking for. I'm sure that will come with time. I don't like how you don't automatically subscribe when you start a new topic... or at least it doesn't give you the option to get an email when someone replies. I'm just being picky though I feel like an "old dog" too lol

ARCHIVED Stock & Barrel Bulk Foods
JillianLindsay posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi all, I'm home in Toronto visiting for the holidays. My mother-in-law purchased some snacks for me for the plane ride home. They were all Stock & Barrel bulk foods products (packaged by Reddi Snack in Toronto, owned by JohnVince Foods): Toasted Corn (Chili Lemon flavour), yogurt covered raisins & yogurt covered almonds. The ingredients seem... -
ARCHIVED Less Anxious, More Depressed
JillianLindsay replied to jackay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It sounds like you are doing a lot to try and feel better -- keep that up & you will start to reap the rewards I find it helps me (and it's different for everyone) to have plans set up in advance that I can look forward to (i.e. coffee with a friend, my sports, etc). That helps me feel a little more optimistic about my day and gives me a bit more... -
ARCHIVED Negative Celiac Dna Result
JillianLindsay replied to beebs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi & welcome, The DNA test is not conclusive. Having the DNA alleles for celiac disease only mean you have a higher likelihood of developing the disease, not that you have it. Likewise, not having these alleles only means you don't have that particular genetic risk for celiac disease and you can certainly still have it. The only way to know... -
ARCHIVED Anybody Else Sensitve To Light
JillianLindsay replied to srthomas21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am very sensitive to light! I also got a clean bill of eye-health from my optometrist. Someone (not an expert) told me a long time ago that it's simply because I have blue eyes and people with blue eyes are more sensitive to light. I have no idea if there is any truth in that. I've also never heard of vitamin deficiencies causing the sensitivity, that... -
ARCHIVED How To Know If I've Eliminated All Gluten?
JillianLindsay replied to jackay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree, we never know 100% for sure, we all just do our very best and are as cautious as possible. After being gluten-free for 6-9 months your DR should re-check (if you had a celiac panel pre-diagnosis) your ttg levels to see if they have gone down. If they have, that is a good indication that you are sticking to the diet. If they go up or stay the same... -
ARCHIVED Less Anxious, More Depressed
JillianLindsay replied to jackay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This may not seem like helpful advice, but these are the best tx we have for depression right now: -antidepressants coupled with counselling -regular exercise -eating well (balanced, healthy diet) -avoiding alcohol as it is a depressant I suffer from very severe depression during the winter months and the only things that keep me going are playing... -
ARCHIVED Giving Up Leftovers/doggie Bags At Holiday Dinners
JillianLindsay replied to Jennifer2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think saving yourself some before going out is a great idea I find that the more prepared I am, the less anxious I become about food, going hungry, getting cc, etc. Happy Holidays! -
ARCHIVED Restaurants/coffee Shops In Guelph, On
JillianLindsay posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hello, My hubby & I are going home (Toronto & Guelph) for the week of New Year's. We'll be meeting up with friends for dinners and/or lunches and/or over coffee. I'm wondering if there are places in Guelph that anyone can recommend for gluten-free dining? I grew up there but haven't gone to a restaurant there since my dx. I know Moxie's has... -
ARCHIVED Any Tips For Heading Off Irritability At The Pass?
JillianLindsay replied to StacyA's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry to hear I got glutened on the September long weekend while on a big family (in-laws) get-away at the cottage. I spent an entire day reading in bed and the family gave me my time to rest and recuperate. I'm sure this would be much harder to do on Christmas, but perhaps taking a bath (as mentioned) or doing small things throughout (taking 10-... -
ARCHIVED Simply Natural Organic Creamy Caesar Salad Dressing
JillianLindsay replied to JillianLindsay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hmm we were in that section at Safeway today and didn't see it... but will try again This Simply Natural dressing was BLAND! I was quite disappointed, even added pepper, parmesan cheese & fresh bacon bits lol More importantly, I am now adopting "yum-licious" into my vernacular -
ARCHIVED Starving In The Airport
JillianLindsay replied to NorthernElf's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
lol I get cranky when travelling as it is... add hunger to that and my hubby would rather leave me at the airport I always bring a bag of trail mix with me. Sesame ginger snaps, real fruits, trail mix, etc. can be purchased in airports (when desperate) and are usually gluten-free (read labels, of course). And yes, you can bring food in your carry-on... -
ARCHIVED Simply Natural Organic Creamy Caesar Salad Dressing
JillianLindsay replied to JillianLindsay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think I found it! This resource Open Original Shared Link says that all Simply Natural salad dressings are gluten-free except for the Sesame Ginger, but it's from 2006. If anyone has up-to-date information, please do share. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Simply Natural Organic Creamy Caesar Salad Dressing
JillianLindsay posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Can anyone please tell me if Simply Natural organic creamy caesar salad dressing is gluten free? I can`t find the info on their website Open Original Shared Link and I`ve emailed them, but it tends to take a long time to receive an answer. The ingredients look fine, I just want to be 100% sure as I`ve never tried this brand before. Thanks... -

I was wondering this myself as I was at an Xmas party recently and said no thanks because I wasn't sure. Now I shall try it over the holidays and see how it goes Thanks for posting! -
Maya dear, you are definitely getting cc if you are sharing a toaster. I am sorry you are having to deal with this You didn't ask this directly, but I feel a responsibility to mention that you should be medically exempt from your school's meal plan https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...=discrimination Open Original Shared Link ...

ARCHIVED Anyone Here Eat Regular Soy Sauce?
JillianLindsay replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use VH low-sodium with no problems. I don't think ALL VH soy sauces are gluten-free, but this one is. Here's another soy sauce-related thread: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=384 -
ARCHIVED Do I Not Have Celiac Disease?
JillianLindsay replied to jimbob2225's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Probably, if only because your DR and the technicians would know how to do it properly, however it still can show a false negative. IF you need a diagnosis, then yes, you should continue eating gluten! If you want to test out the gluten-free diet without going through the medical testing, then you can do a trial and see if you feel better. Some... -
ARCHIVED Do I Not Have Celiac Disease?
JillianLindsay replied to jimbob2225's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Jim and welcome, No test is 100% conclusive for celiac disease. Even the same test done at your DRs office can still show a false negative. The best way to diagnose celiac disease is through an endoscopy (a camera down your throat into your stomach/small bowel). You have to continue eating gluten in order for these tests to be accurate. Others... -
ARCHIVED Hunger Spiked Again And Getting Worse
JillianLindsay replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it's great that you've added more protein and good fats, but are you still keeping a balanced diet? Fibre also helps us feel full so you need to keep eating LOTS of fresh veggies with that peanut butter, tuna, etc. Instead of just eating tuna, try making it a tuna salad with gluten-free pasta and lots of raw veggies. Try the peanut butter on an... -

ARCHIVED How To Tell Others About Gluten Intolerance?
JillianLindsay replied to kellirae's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have no problem telling people I have celiac disease, but if I don't feel like getting into it (or it's not the right venue to give a fuller explanation), then I just say I have serious food allergies (I know it's not an allergy!! lol) and have to be very careful. As everyone said, there's no point risking being sick over the holidays to avoid a...
