ARCHIVED Breast Pain And celiac disease
RideAllWays replied to Coolclimates's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I get these sort of shooting pains once in a while, and always in the left breast. And both of them tend to ache, but I haven't noticed a pattern either. -
ARCHIVED Mcdonalds French Fries
RideAllWays replied to gluten momma's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I guess it could be different in different countries, but most of the McDonald's in Canada are built the same, and the chicken nuggets and everything else breaded are fried right beside the french fries. I'm not even sure about the beef flavouring but based on the fact that they are fried with gluten all around makes me positive that I am never going to... -

I work there. Don't eat them. Plain and Simple. -
ARCHIVED You Should Stop Calling Gluten Intolerance A Disease
RideAllWays replied to motif's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well said. Thank you for sounding as offended as I felt. I'm sick of people treating this disease like it is nothing more than a "fad" or slight intolerance, like we could eat gluten if we really wanted to and just fart a bit or something; we suffer and suffer HARD, sometimes for many years before being diagnosed. -
ARCHIVED You Should Stop Calling Gluten Intolerance A Disease
RideAllWays replied to motif's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It just seems weird to blur the lines I guess...because if you're classifying it as an autoimmune "disorder" then what about Diabetes? Addison's? And I think the reason most people are overwhelmed by a gluten allergy is because it is in a lot of things, and in North America and I'm sure many other parts of the world gluten-containing products are not only... -

ARCHIVED You Should Stop Calling Gluten Intolerance A Disease
RideAllWays replied to motif's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
But the autoimmune reaction of celiac disease is not present in "normal" individuals...I don't think I have ever heard anybody refer to gluten intolerance as a disease..just Celiac Disease. -
ARCHIVED Only Celiac In The Family
RideAllWays replied to Becksabec's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm the only one diagnosed, but I'm quite sure my mom has it and maybe even my sister. They both went gluten free to try it and felt great (D disappeared, bloating went down, less headaches)..but decided it was a lot of work and stopped. I'm trying to convince my mom to get tested but she says that I just want somebody else to be like me.. -
AHHH that's horrible!!! Has anything like this actually happened to anybody?

ARCHIVED Mild Celiac A Myth?
RideAllWays replied to JoeyStardust's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are people who don't get visible symptoms but the villi damage is still there, I think I've heard it referred to as "silent Celiacs". If you are still having bits of gluten, go back on full gluten and get a biopsy...then you will know for sure whether or not you actually have the disease. But if you do feel tons better gluten-free, might as well go... -
Congrats!!! And I know about the moms...I had a late miscarriage which has really contributed to my depression lately, and all my mom could say was "Thank God"..I'm sure you're a great mom, and your little girl would probably love a sibling I'm happy for you and your husband, and don't let people get you down about it!

ARCHIVED New Diagnosed Wheat Farmer?
RideAllWays replied to farmwife67's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow, what a cruel irony. I personally wouldn't risk it, but if it is your lifestyle and career you could try it for a while using the surgical mask, washing really well, etc. But if you're anything like the farmers I know that won't be an option At the ranch my boss is allergic to sawdust and is supposed to wear a mask when doing stalls or even just being... -
ARCHIVED Starbucks
RideAllWays replied to texasgirl19's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I read on this site not to drink the frappachinos because some of them do contain gluten and they don't wash the blenders between, just a light rinse. Maybe you could ask for a fresh blender and find out which flavours are gluten free, because some must be. I believe the caramel is gluten free, I drink caramel macciatos on occasion and I'm pretty sensitive... -

RideAllWays replied to texasgirl19's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had an extremely violent reaction from that product and emailed the Lucy company, and they mentioned that there is a huge possibility of the oats being contaminated. -

ARCHIVED College Meal Ideas?
RideAllWays replied to Becksabec's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Lots of rice, beans, nuts, rice cakes, veggies! I am able to live off $100/month (yay to being a student, eh..). I eat lots of no-name products from superstore, they are always way cheaper and I've never had a reaction to the ones that are naturally gluten-free. Salads are great, you can add a chicken breast as well. If you have a costco, buy a huge box... -
ARCHIVED Tostitos Baked Scoops- Anyone Had Trouble With These?
RideAllWays replied to Not2sure's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat the corn tostitos rounds all the time without problem, and I'm usually pretty sensitive. -
ARCHIVED Boston Pizza Is Now gluten-free!
RideAllWays replied to Yup's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I could see how this would be a problem. The kitchen is educated about allergies and is super careful, but when the food comes out the "Expo" person at the back dresses the salads with garlic toast, or whatever else comes with it. When the waitresses punch the meal in on the computer they can put special request and say gluten allergy, and it is supposed... -
My "Diagnosis'": Anxiety Anorexia Depression And after spending most of 5 years on crutches on and off and two months in a wheelchair my grad year for unbearable joint pain and the breaking down of tissue in my ankles and knees, which "Couldn't be fixed and you'll grow out of it" they said I was having Phantom pain i.e. ALL IN MY HEAD. Then the...

It was overwhelming at first. I tried Ener-G bread and almost cried because I thought I would have to eat S**T like that for the rest of my life..but there are WAY better options out there. Things started getting better for me when I realized not to replace, but adapt. Instead of eating sandwiches, I eat a lot of wraps (rice tortillas are cheaper...

ARCHIVED Geez, Another Possiblity!
RideAllWays replied to wrench's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't think you are being a hypochrondriac! Lumps all over the body are not something to take lightly. I haven't ever heard of this symptom with celiac disease, but it seems that every day I hear of new ailments related to Celiac, and the stomach pains and diarrhea fit right in. If you want accurate testing DO NOT go gluten-free until after you have... -
Hi there, I've been wondering about Slurpees (usually 7-11 or Mac's, I assume they are all the same...) and was thinking that if the flavour was gluten free, such as coke, does that mean that the slushie is for sure gluten-free?

Some people react to tapioca, and lots of people react to dairy. Have you ruled out other intolerances? -
ARCHIVED Help I Miss Pizza
RideAllWays replied to kellykay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Boston pizzas in canada now have gluten-free pizza, made with kinnikinnick crust! I tried it yesterday and it was awesome! Note: the italian sausage and salami are NOT gluten-free but the pepperoni and bacon are. They even told me that they cooked it on parchment paper, used separate ingredients, etc. It was great.
