  1. In 3 months time before I knew about celiac, my four front teeth literally had holes in the back. Theyu looked like sponges. Still, my dentist never considered Celiac You may want to look into a community clinic, or a dental school nearby to help. Sorry you are going throught this!
  2. Bwahhhhahhahahhhaaa! Hey, I know her Thanks for posting!
  3. I felt like I had the flu on and off for 10 years. Intermitent fevers, aches and pains and a whole lot more.
  4. That happened to my older son, who was gluten free to keep the rest of us safe. After 6 months off gluten, he was getting violently ill with gluten. His blood tests were negative, so we are assuming he is gluten intolerant.
  5. Normal ranges for IGA are 80-350. With .4, you are IGA deficient, which means you have to throw out all the other celiac tests, as they will not be accurate with IGA deficiency. You may want to consider having an endoscopy to check for celiac damage. But, endo's are not 100% accurate, as there is something like 50 ft or more to check and it can be missed...
  6. Hi Chris. One thing important to know is that blood tests and/or biopsy can be inconclusive and yield false negatives. You could have celiac, or you could be gluten intolerant. Either way, the fix is a lifelong gluten free diet. Since you have responded positively to the diet, I would continue. You have to remember that you were not feeling well for...
  7. Really, therapy is still a really good option, as much as you don't want to do it. It helps you to control your reactions to the world. You really ought to consider it.
  8. I am so sorry. Sometimes gluten-free baking can be a nightmare. I spent three hours last week trying to make gingerbread men. My 10 yr old was very disappointed. I hope you can find something your little man will like!
  9. My family is from the south, and anytime I make these, everyone raves. Just chop up 1/2 lb of bacon and brown. Then add chopped onions. Add in your clean and snapped beans and boil til they are soft. Nice, bacony goodness!
  10. Yes, it is safe. As long as the label says 100% coffee beans. Be careful with some of the flavored coffees, though.
  11. Hi Guys I am not a teen, but I live in HB. I'm an "expert" LOL, being gluten free for 1 1/2 years. I am happy to help in any way I can. PM me, happy to help ease the transition. You're hungry all the time because your body is starved for nutrients. It evens out after a month or so. My 10 and 13 year old sons are also celiac. Janie
  12. Huh. Interesting. >10ppm is still enough to make us supersensitives sick. I am not brave enough to try it, since cc makes me miserable. Even distilled liquor ( which supposedly is gluten free makes me ill. Others?
  13. I get major gurgling anytime I eat something I am intolerant to. In the beginning, it was everything! It's calmed down now (over a year later) and only kicks up again when I eat grains (not good for me).
  14. After watching the Shrek the Halls special, I've got a hankering for some Gingerbread Men! (sorry Gingy!). I am not the most accomplished baker, but I would really appreciate TRIED and TRUE Gingerbread Men recipes, gluten free of course! I know there are a lot of recipes online, but I would like to get one from someone who has made them successfully. ...
  15. My son and I both had the same issue. I think it was because, while eating gluten, we were both chronically dehydrated. Once nutrients and fluids were being normally processed, we had to go a LOT more often. No scientific evidence, but I believe the bladder shrinks when we are chronically dehydrated, so the bladder feels fuller faster. Might it be the...
  16. I am happy to report that we have had another successful Gluten Free Girls Night Out! The OC girls got together, Sandsurfgirl, Charlie's Girl and I had a lovely meal and great company at Skosh Monahan's. We had hamburgers with buns! Fries in a dedicated fryer! The owner's son is autistic. He has a separate kitchen for gluten free, and the food was great...
  17. I had an endo three years ago and the GI found candida, but that is what he was looking for. They have to do a scrape or something to test for it. Too bad the bonehead didn't check for celiac while he was there... I would have gotten better two years earlier
  18. This was my second gluten free Thanksgiving. Last year was low key. This year was a party! 15 people over, including our kids, friends of the kids and parents and my BF's ex wife! It was great and we all had a good time. Roasted turkey mashed potatoes Gravy made with Sorghum flour Southern dressing made with Bob's gluten-free cornbread and Udis...
  19. So, WF has the best gluten free pizza. The only problem is the pizza makers are not well trained. The first time we ordered one, they asked me what size. I said, "Wow, you have more than a personal?" And they said yes so we ordered a large. My boys and I were sick, sick, sick. The next time, I ordered one for my son, and it turns out they ONLY have the...

    ARCHIVED Five Guys

The only thing you need to be careful of at 5 guys is that the burger assemblers all wear gloves. They've all been handling burgers with buns. You have to ask them to put on clean gloves before they touch your burger. I did not, and I got sick the first time. I sat there watching them putting the burgers on buns, and should have asked and did not, then...
  22. I, too, gained a lot of weight. And I mean a LOT. At diagnosis, I weighed 93 pounds. I had been losing steadily for a few years. I went from a very slim 150 lbs. (I am 6 ft tall female) down to 93. As soon as I started the gluten free diet, I started gaining weight at an alarming rate. My body went haywire, and I gained massive amounts from fluid retention...
  23. stay away from Rolaids soft chews. They're made on lines shared with gluten and they got me but good
  24. Have you been strict with your diet? The reason I ask is because I suffer horrible night sweats (buckets!) when glutened, and it was awful before going gluten free. It has miraculously stopped, as long as I don't get accidental gluten. How old are you? Could it be perimenopause or menopause?
  25. Hi Molly, It just takes time to learn how to deal. If you would absolutely go gluten free for your family if the roles were reversed, why not "let" them do the same for you? Isn't it better for your kids to have a healthy, happy Mom? Your husband is supportive, and I would bet your kids will be, too. My younger son and I are diagnosed celiac (he's 1...
