ARCHIVED Panarea Bread Got Me!
StephanieGF replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hmm... while I agree that Panera would be a high risk place for someone with celiacs and I would not eat there because I am so sensitive to CC, I disagree with this statement. I am not familiar with any claims that Panera makes, as again, I would not eat there, but in general I will say this. If a restaurant markets that they have a gluten free menu... -
ARCHIVED Licorice Substitute
StephanieGF replied to MaryannG's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Cliff's twisted fruit snacks are easy to find and shaped like a thicker licorice, they are a little more sticky, but they might work. My son LOVES them by the way, he would choose one of those over most any candy. -
ARCHIVED The Value Of Reading The Label Properly...
StephanieGF replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hate that, if they are going to go to the trouble of making it wheat free, make it gluten free too. There is a rice puff cereal that is like that, it is often sold in the gluten free section of stores, but it is just wheat free and has barely malt. What is really confusing is that the same brand makes two other rice puff cereals (that look almost exactly... -
ARCHIVED More Product Updates
StephanieGF replied to eeyor-fan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, also if you have long hair, your hair can blow into your face/mouth area. Happens to me all of the time, so gluten free shampoo and conditioner is very important to me. I saw a big improvement when I went completely gluten free on the cosmetics/shampoos/soaps/etc. -
ARCHIVED Family Get Together @ Pizza Place
StephanieGF replied to summerteeth's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I'm sorry they were so terrible. I agree, never ask in that kind of situation, you never know what kind of random answer you will get from an employee. It is better to just discreetly bring your own food and only justify it if you are pressed, and then ask to speak to a manager if you are being given a hard time. Most managers would rather have the business... -
ARCHIVED Bread!
StephanieGF replied to bluebonnet's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I could not agree more about their pizza crust, I seriously think that stuff is better than I remember any gluten pizza crust tasting. -
ARCHIVED Brothers All-Natural Products
StephanieGF replied to RDR's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just as an FYI, my son liked the fruit crisps from costco but after realizing they are made in china, we stopped buying them. I am personally uncomfortable with food made in china due to quality control issues. I don't know if Brothers other products are made in china also? -
ARCHIVED Any Gluten-Free Friendly Restaurants In Hilton Head Sc?
StephanieGF posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hi everyone! We will be going on our Hilton Head summer trip soon, and I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with restaurants on Hilton Head Island? I'm interested in both the good and the bad so I know where to avoid and where might be a safe bet? Last year I made my own food in our villa almost the entire time or went to real causal... -
ARCHIVED Danactive Probiotic Yogurt Drink
StephanieGF replied to Midwest's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Remember, it might not be wheat. CC with oats, barely or rye (my guess would be some sort of barely malt) could cause trace amounts of gluten to be in the product. There are no requirements to disclose that. -
ARCHIVED Chamomile Tea --Confused?
StephanieGF replied to Chakra2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The chamomile leaves/flowers themselves are gluten free, but the problem is what other things the tea blender may add to the tea. Natural and artificial flavorings can be an issue, and I have seen roasted barely added to many Bigelow teas. I am not sure how their CC is, but I avoid all of their teas due to that. I don't know if Celestial adds barely to... -
ARCHIVED This Is Gluten Free Right?
StephanieGF replied to Luvbeingamommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, it probably does not contain gluten ingredients, being that in the US (on food items) they are suppose to list wheat as an ingredient if it is in one of the starches or something. And I don't see any rye, barely, or oat ingredients. That said, there is a lot of scary ingredients in that product, including the important to avoid hydrogenated oil. ... -
ARCHIVED Question About Gluten And Hypoglycemia
StephanieGF replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was having problems with hypoglycemic moments (like what you described) before I went gluten free too. To me the connection between celicas and hypoglycemia is rather simple. You intake a moderate to high level of sugar (such as cereal and milk) and you body releases insulin, however, because your intestines are damaged and unable to absorb all of that... -
Are M&Ms Gluten Free?
StephanieGF replied to Grace'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yeah, I saw those in the store recently too and was wondering if we are now going to start seeing CC issues with M&Ms? I wonder if they are made on the same lines as plain or peanut? -
ARCHIVED "gluten Free" Items That "got You"
StephanieGF replied to NorthernElf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah, I noticed that the gluten-free Betty Crocker mixes are made in a gluten free facility in Canada. I suspect (but have no proof) that it is the same facility as Gluten Free pantry or another of the Canadian gluten free manufactures, there are several. I did notice that the ingredients in the chocolate cake mix for Gluten Free Pantry and Betty Crocker... -
ARCHIVED Wegman's Gluten-Free Labeling
StephanieGF replied to danaf617's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If a Wegman's product has the little orange G, I trust it. Wegman's is one of the only store brands I trust, and I often trust them more than many name brands. And a prior poster is correct, they often do not label things that I would consider gluten free because there might be some slight controversy (like grain vinagar) or a chance of CC. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Dining In Northern Virginia
StephanieGF replied to terri's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I had no idea that the Great American Restaurants had gluten free menus. I so wish they would have put that on their websites, they have been missing out on customers I'm sure, me for one. Thanks for the info. -
ARCHIVED Spices
StephanieGF replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I actually just called Heinz last week. All of their ketchups are gluten free, they are aware that there is some internet rumor that the organic ketchup is not, which they assured me is not true. The did say that the gluten free page on their website is not up to date and sent me this list of all their CURRENT gluten free products: May 21, 2010 Dear... -
ARCHIVED Levoxyl?
StephanieGF replied to DownWithGluten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have no idea it is will go away. I would say that you did change a lot, both brands and dosage, so it might take your body a while to adjust. And it could be a cold or something else like you said. I personally would probably wait another few days or a week and then if you are not feeling more normal, I would call. But you might want to call sooner... -
ARCHIVED Levoxyl?
StephanieGF replied to DownWithGluten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I take Levoxyl with no problems, it is gluten free. But why did you switch? I have been told once your body gets use to a brand of thyroid (unless you have a problem) it is a good idea to just stay with it and not switch around. This is why one doctor told me to never go generic with thyroid, because you might get a different manufacture each time and it... -
ARCHIVED Grrr...wegmans Hunt Valley Maryland
StephanieGF replied to HopeMum's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay, so there was a "gluten free" sign and there were a few gluten free items on that shelf, but your husband bought something that was not gluten free and just did not read the label? I really don't see how Wegmans is at fault here either? I mean I hate misleading signs and labels, but I am having a hard time understanding how this was wrong. Was there... -
ARCHIVED Travel To Las Vegas
StephanieGF replied to glutenfreeinminnesota's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Actually, there is a small restaurant in the Palazzo & Ventitian's Canyon Ranch Spa (it called the Canyon Ranch Grill and it is on the Palazzo side) that serves breakfast and lunch (only.) They have a gluten free menu and are both very accommodation and have great healthy food. We ate lunch there almost every day when we stayed at the Ventitian. Honestly... -
ARCHIVED Kc Masterpiece Bbq Sauce?
StephanieGF replied to ptkds's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just an FYI, this thread is from 2007, it is possible that the formula has changed, it might be okay now? You might want to call if you don't see any obvious gluten on the bottle? -
ARCHIVED Cat Food?
StephanieGF replied to GarAndTeed's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know if any of the cheaper grocery store brands (the come in the large bags) is gluten free or does not contain any obvious gluten ingredients? I see brewers yeast in all of them I have checked and some also have barely or oats. -
ARCHIVED Crazy Balance Thing Going On...
StephanieGF replied to Ruthie13's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, the feeling like you are walking on a boat is exactly what I experience. I think it is the worse part of being glutened. I can deal with gas and other issues, but the dizziness is unbearable. I think for me it is the stress that gluten puts on my body, because other things that cause a stress on my body (food allergies or mental stresses) tend to... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Food For Life Sprouted Corn Tortillas?
StephanieGF replied to nascarrunner71's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Why do companies do this, I mean really, can even a gluten eater taste that bit of barely in the water. Yet it is a major problem for a growing part of the population. Especially when you market your product to health food stores like whole foods where people on gluten-free diets tend to shop. I wish WFs would stop carrying that product, I know at my...
