ARCHIVED Will Going Temporarily Back On Gluten "ruin" All Progress?
kareng replied to cbdh19's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you are positive you do not have Celiac, with negative tests for Celiac, then you are not making antibodies to gluten. For a person with Celiac, who is makes antibodies when they eat gluten, is is never a good idea and will set that person back. -

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Researched If Wheatgrass Is gluten-free?
kareng replied to 3bears2's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Technically, the gluten is in the seed - not the stalk. Personally, If it was tested for gluten.....maybe....I would use it. But it seems that it's possible there would be the start of a seed or two in that " grass". There are so many other healthy or even healthier things to eat....I think why take the chance. Are you going to be allergic to the trace or tinier amounts that might be in a food? My SIL is allergic to a few metals but it is more a contact allergy. She doesn't worry about it in food.

I'm not sure if people with only 2 posts can get pms. You might want to just email her. She gave the address in the post. -
If you are talking about glutamate or glutamine - those are not gluten. Bottom line - if you think a product or food makes you feel bad, no matter what the reason - don't eat it!

ARCHIVED Can You Get Glutened From A Skin Prick Test?
kareng replied to ThisIsMyUserName's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No. The Celiac reaction occurs when gluten is in your intestines. Open Original Shared Link "Gluten must be ingested to be cause for concern for someone with celiac disease." -
ARCHIVED "gluten Free" Label Question
kareng replied to CeliacMommaX2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Depends - just the words gluten-free don't necessarily mean it was tested. The law doesn't say they must test - but if they are called on it by the govt, it better test at <20 ppm. There are certain agencies that "certify" gluten free. Basically, they give companies training and allow them to use a symbol to show they are testing and meeting the... -
ARCHIVED Newbie Seeking Similar Personal Experience?
kareng replied to DJTonkovich's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Your doctor is right about the food allergy testing to a certain extent. Here is some info about food allergies. This does not have anything to do with some other type of intolerance to a food. Open Original Shared Link I have seen quite a few people who are eliminating a food for some dubious reason or another - and not really have an issue with the... -

All cheese is gluten free with a few exceptions - like specialty cheeses that contain beer. AS always, read the ingredients - the wheat or beer will be labelled. -
ARCHIVED Gluten During Recovery
kareng replied to ThisIsMyUserName's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
4 weeks gluten free isn't enough to heal Celiac. You have only been gluten-free, you think, for 2 weeks. It's just not enough time to heal. It can take a month just to get the hang of things. Even if you were completely healed and any vitamin deficiencies corrected - it can take months to get the whole system in balance and in good working order. Give... -
ARCHIVED #glutenfreeishealthy (Let's Start A Tag!)
kareng replied to Molecularmolly's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went and looked at the Twitter stuff under that hashtag - saw 2 people making fun of gluten-free being healthy - they ate a gluten-free brownie so it must be gluten-free ha! ha! - type of comment and a guy linking to this thread here. I didn't see anything by anyone else but maybe I don't know how to find it? example: "the only things i know for sure... -
ARCHIVED #glutenfreeishealthy (Let's Start A Tag!)
kareng replied to Molecularmolly's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I looked at the comments on Twitter. There didn't seem to be many but they seem to be making fun of gluten free food and the people who eat it for health reasons. Not sure how that will help educate restaurants about cc? Maybe I am just too old to understand? -
First - if you don't have Celiac disease - you might not have to be as careful as those of us who do. So you might be able to take chances at places a Celiac wouldn't. That will just depend on your system. You might want to skip the bread for a while. Sometimes it helps to "forget" gluten bread. What about things like cheese slices and deli meat slices...

ARCHIVED Albertson's Essential Chips Are Not Gluten Free
kareng replied to abenedum's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I didn't think so. All I meant was, you don't really know they have gluten. Personally, I would trust the word of a company labeling them as gluten-free over a person who has only been gluten-free for 2 months. I know a lot of people who don't have Celiac that might have an issue with eating a bunch of those. Sorry. Not trying to be harsh. Just trying... -
