  1. I still don't understand this iodine" test". Does this mean no one has enough iodine? I have never had yellow stuff come out of my skin. Wouldn't we be leaving yellow spots on towels and dishes, etc?
  2. I know it can takes weeks or months to get antibodies down. But, if you don't have a lot of antibodies, a few weeks gluten-free can make a difference. For the skin biopsy, you need a fresh lesion. Not sure if you are still getting them gluten-free? Open Original Shared Link I stopped eating gluten right before my blood screening. Will that impact my...
  3. Probably has to do with a little weight gain & absorbing nutrients better - my guess. Will we see celebrities going gluten-free to increase boob size? Or "No. I didn't get my breasts done. I went gluten-free"?
  4. Are you anemic? Salt cravings seem to be linked to that. And celiac can cause anemia. I would think you should go gluten-free for a few months. Give yourself some time to heal.
  5. Actually, the way skin absorption works - everyone will absorb the same amount of iodine - deficient or not. Also, too much iodine can cause thyroid issues, too. I had to go low iodine for a while for my thyroid.
  6. Personally, if I thought I had an iodine issue, I would seek medical treatment. I would get a real test from a real doctor for it. Then I would take supplements, if needed. It's not really something to mess around with. Too much iodine is bad, too. Fortunately, it looks like you can't absorb much iodine thru your skin. So, a little dab on your arm...
  7. I don't really know how to help you. You might try limiting your food to a few safe ones and then add foods back in 1 at a time. Just wanted you to know - I had just read your post when my niece called. Her little guy was at the ER. He woke up with swollen lips - like he had had too much lip injections. They can't really say what it is but it might...
  8. No. Its not your fault. Its your parents fault for giving it to you!
  9. Slow down! Breathe! I think you may be going a bit too far. The best way to tell if you are consuming gluten is feeling better & to get your blood work re-done every year. The first year, get it re-done in 3-6 months. It may not be 0 but should be coming down, You may have to show this to your doctor: Open Original Shared Link Lots of people...
  10. Enterolabs' stool test is not considered a valid test for Celiac. Open Original Shared Link "Why don’t you recognize tests (stool tests or otherwise) for non-celiac gluten sensitivity that are currently available through companies like Enterolab or Cyrex? We only embrace tests that have endured rigorous scientific evaluations. So far, these t...
  11. Just out of curiosity, I called the Request a test place. They said that there are only 4 states that you can't do them without a doctor's order. They do not take insurance. You must pay before the test is run.
  12. In the US, in some states, you can't get blood work done without a doctor's order (unless that has changed?). Insurance probably won't pay for Enterolabs. I don't believe Enterolabs does the Celiac blood panel.
  13. Don't really see anything wrong with the article. Its short, so it doesn't go into great depth. But they do say gluten-free is important for people with celiac. They don't promote it for weight loss or casual use ( fad). It is " the in thing". I'm glad the author realizes its really for people with Celiac Disease and tries to explain that.
  14. Sunday night we had chicken enchiladas with a sauce I made from a recipe that was on here somewhere, corn spoon "bread" (more like a souffle) and Spanish Rice. I made the enchiladas in layers because its hard to get them to stay in circles. Last night we had chili. Tonight it is Encores as we have a lot of stuff left. The enchiladas are better...
  15. The antibodies they are looking for show up in the skin next to the fresh lesion. That is the protocol. Open Original Shared Link How is dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) diagnosed? DH is diagnosed by a skin biopsy, which involves removing a tiny piece of skin near the rash and testing it for the IgA antibody. DH is treated with a gluten-free diet and medication...
  16. Usually, we don't use bulk nuts, flours etc because it is so easy for them to be cc'd. - a scooper from something gluteny used in the gluten-free stuff, for example. In your case, it sounds like you washed those nuts pretty well. Maybe your problem was the nuts themselves? Or something else you ate? Anyway....... Back to the discussion about de- glutening...
  17. I don't see how laxatives would help. Probably just make you feel worse. The current pills that are supposed to digest gluten, don't really work. I saw a presentation by Celiac researchers who are working on one that really works. They tested all the ones on the market and they don't work.
  18. There are very few coffee ingredients add-ins at Starbucks that have gluten. Coffees, expressos, etc should all be safe. They will let you read the ingredients, if you want a flavoring but most are gluten-free.
  19. You don't really have to worry about them with the exceptions of what goes in your mouth. If you don't get shampoo in your mouth, don't worry about it. Gluten has to be eaten to cause a reaction. Open Original Shared Link What ingredients should I avoid in cosmetic products? Gluten is only toxic to celiac patients and patients with dermatitis...
  20. Full disclosure- you aren't in the US, are you? Korea? I have no clue what their labeling laws are or if they have any. In the US and Canada, even if a food is imported, it must follow the labeling laws.
  21. yeah. That was some odd mis- understanding of the use of the word " clearly"! Velveeta is gluten free. Many of us use it with no problems. Kraft will label if an ingredient is derived from wheat, rye or barley. Thus, the Kraft labels " clearly" statement.
  22. My numbers were above what the blood tests could count. I decided to have the endo and a colonoscopy. I wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else wrong and get a feel for how bad the damage was.
  23. Safeway has been doing a nice job of gluten-free recently. I believe they test in accordance with the upcoming gluten-free laws. You might check that. I don't remember what the name of the Safeway brand is, so I can't look it up.
  24. The original post is from 2009. You need to read the ingredients on products, especially the ones not labelled gluten free. We can't assume that one brand's rice cereal is gluten free because Chex is. Most of these cereals use malt to sweeten them - making them not gluten-free.
  25. How does this mean you don't have Celiac? You had two positive blood tests. After a year and half gluten-free, an endo should be negative. If you aren't eating gluten, you will heal your intestines and there should be no damage found.
