ARCHIVED Technical Questions....
kareng replied to Greg Rappaport's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Because you might not believe the number of new accounts that post spam and just plain nasty stuff in the first 3 or 4 posts. Or put posts about wanting a recipe on a thread about endoscopies. It gives us a chance to weed out the bad people and help the confused. We try to keep everyone from having to read about ads for male enhancement products,... -
You really need to talk to the manager and if possible the district manager. If only one chef gets it, your restaruant is making lots of people sick. Just adding to the bad rep they have in the Celiac community.

ARCHIVED Update: First Gluten Free Shopping Trip
kareng replied to Booghead's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Check back later or tomorrow. I have a busy day today. I'll post the names & locations of a few places in te SLC area. If you are in the area, you could check them out. I don't live there, I just go skiing there. There is a big grocery chain there that seems to have alot of gluten-free stuff. I can't think of the name but I think its in my... -
I have heard that some of the Hiltons do a good job with gluten-free food. There are even a few Bed & Breakfasts around that do gluten-free.

I like to put something moist on my bread. Cream cheese, flavored cream cheese like Aloutte, Better Buttah ( flavored butter), iceberg lettuce, jelly. -
Just to let you know, Kjbrown hasn't been active on the forum for 3 years. So, I wouldn't hold my breathe waiting for the recipe. You might google coconut flour. I have seen recipes with it.

ARCHIVED Cooking In Microwave And Cross Contamination
kareng replied to kimis's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have small plates that I turn over on top of a bowl. We tend to have exploding chili beans! They stick to the roof. Get a couple of paper towels and wipe the inside down. I think it would be worse at a shared office microwave. At home you can keep it clean. Make BF some lasagna with gluten-free noodles. No one at my house notices and you don... -

If you live in the Salt Lake City area, there are several bakeries and a gluten-free store. The store is in Larson? A bakery with lunches in Sandy. A restaurant near ? If you live near there, let me know & I'll get the info. On the bread..you can toast frozen or leave it on the counter for a few minutes to thaw. Or if making a sandwich for school... -
ARCHIVED Entertainment Venue Food Policy
kareng replied to tennisman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have a note, written on the perscription pad, explaining Celiac and saying I should bring my own food. I have called venues. I never had to prove it. I have been told to just mention food allergy to Security. I have been sent an email to print & show the security. That doesn't mean I can bring a big cooler or anything extreme. More like a small... -
ARCHIVED Nestle Ice Cream Bars
kareng replied to ERR's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most ice cream is gluten-free. Just read the ingredients. I think Dove ice cream bars are OK...but read the ingredients. I haven't had any lately. My hub brought home Kemps frozen yogurt recently. He doesn't want to read the ingredients. The Kemps said Gluten Free. We are in Kansas City. Not sure where else its sold. -
My moms' side is mostly German. They came over right before the Civil War. Her dad has a bit of English probably. My dad's side his Mom's parents came from Ireland the other side has an English last name & may have come over on the Mayflower or shortly there after. We don't know alot about that side because his family disowned him for marrying a ...

ARCHIVED Nestle Ice Cream Bars
kareng replied to ERR's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know for sure but don't they use the same "crunch" as the candy bars? What do the ingredients say? There are plain and even flavored ice cream bars out there that are gluten-free. Maybe you could change your ice cream bar addiction. -
ARCHIVED Butches Pizza
kareng replied to MANDOPICKER7's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
To be honest....I'm not sure there really is a point or a question here. The OP got lucky after eating a gluteny pizza and didn't feel bad. Or doesn't have gluten intolerance. -
ARCHIVED Coping With Gluten For A Screening
kareng replied to AJ Leigh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm afraid your doctor doesn't really understand Celiac. He wil do an endoscopy, taking 3 tiny samples from 16 feet of intestines. Even if you have damage left, what are the odds he will get those spots. Or what he gets will be barely damaged as it is healing or was healed and the 1 week started damage. Also, I wouldn't do it during finals week. -
ARCHIVED Coping With Gluten For A Screening
kareng replied to AJ Leigh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
After 7 months, 1 week of gluten will not be enough. The Univ of Chicago Celiac Ct does free blood screenings every Oct. The postcard they sent me said " a regular gluten diet for 3 months before the test.". While a week of gluten might make you feel like poop, it seems that it is not enough time to make enough antibodies to show up well in a blood test... -

ARCHIVED Quaker Instant Oatmeal
kareng replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When I first went gluten-free, I emailed Quaker oats. They said none of their oats are gluten-free because they are contaminated with wheat before they even get them. They don't do anything to remove the wheat. -

My dad was excited to tell me he got 3 tattoos today of a religious nature! If I posted a pic of them, I would be banned. He had his first radiation treatment for prostate cancer. They tattoo little crosses to help line up the radiation machine correctly. He is finding the whole thing quite interesting. But, unfortunately.....Shroomie's hair... -
