ARCHIVED Any Self-Diagnosed Catholics?
kareng replied to llama3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Call or email the priest. He will tell you they have a low gluten host or you can just take the wine. He may even be able to give you the wine first or from a special cup. Some will do that. You don't have to say self diagnosed. Just say you can't have gluten if that is true. -
ARCHIVED Domino's Gluten Free Pizza
kareng replied to chrissyinnj's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Haven't heard of Dominos having gluten-free pizza in the States. What country do you live in? I would ask about the procedures for the toppings. Do they stick their hands that they just touched gluten dough, into the cheese? Even if they get new gloves for the gluten-free pizza, the flour is in the cheese. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Dining In Northern Virginia
kareng replied to terri's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The original posts are 7 years old. The info is likely out of date and the restaurants may not even be in business. Your right about the vinegar. Some places go by very old info regarding gluten or do not understand. -

ARCHIVED Why Are People So Insensitive?
kareng replied to espresso261's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I might say, " I guess a diagnosis of Celiac Disease would be fatal for you. " -

ARCHIVED Sweet Potatoe Frys
kareng replied to cougie23's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I saw Rachael Ray make them once. She boils the whole potatoe for about 5-6 minutes. I do that now. They are so much easier to cut. They aren't mushy, just not as hard as raw. I coat with olive oile. Put a piece of foil on a cookie sheet (cause I'm lazy about clean-up). Sprinkle with a little salt. Cook at about 400F until done. I like to cut them... -
ARCHIVED A Miracle?!? - Change In My Reaction To Gluten
kareng replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Don't just let them tell you what the path or blood says. Get actual copies. If you have an appointment, they will likely give them to you then if you ask (and remind them at the end of the appointment) Write down your questions & take with you. Don't expect that the doc knows alot about Celiac or intolerance so you can't debate the "will I heal... -
I think it's cute! Actually, it's great to have you genetic/ science geeks. My son has asked me several things about his genetic chances & I can tell him the things you say.

ARCHIVED A Miracle?!? - Change In My Reaction To Gluten
kareng replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sounds like you should get a copy of all your recent blood tests - celiac and other. You should get a copy of your pathology report from your endoscopy. And just for fun, a copy of the procedure report. Call and politely tell them what you need. Do not demand it today. The people who do that job get $1 over minimum wage. You can offer to pick it up and... -
ARCHIVED A Miracle?!? - Change In My Reaction To Gluten
kareng replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hey Heidi! I have an 18 yr old son I had to get on last year for the lack of clarity in his emails. He was team captain of a robotics team and got frustrated when no one knew what he meant & didn't follow his instruction. He now sends he mails in full sentences. Sometimes I don't know what his texts say. Usually they just want money or me to mail... -

ARCHIVED Veggie Slices (Gluten Free Cheese)
kareng replied to RVluvin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just saw that the soy bean crops have been hit hard by some bug. So I believe we have found something that naturally eats soy. It's called a Kudzu bug andit came here from Asia. Ok...so...which one of youse guys brought them over? -

ARCHIVED "drunk" After Eating Other Foods Like Broccoli, Rutabega, Avocado, Banana?
kareng replied to PeachBlossoms's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wow! That's tough! Here's a thought. What if you went to a doc that hasn't seen you before? Maybe even get someone to take you to the ER when this is happening. Don't mention a tie to food. At least not the first appointment. Get them to see & evaluate what is happening and not dismiss you as a nut. In fact, I just looked over your reactions... -
ARCHIVED A Miracle?!? - Change In My Reaction To Gluten
kareng replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
All I was trying to say is that it is very hard to read some of your posts and understand what you are trying to say. You are trying to explain things that can be quite complex and hard to understand, if written well. I think some of people's misunderstanding of your ideas about gluten intolerance could be because they were hard to read. Hard to tell when... -
ARCHIVED I Just Want The Holidays To Be Over
kareng replied to alex11602's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We have everyone over here. Pain in the behind for me but I know what all the food is. Even bigger pain this year because my mom has to be super low sodium. My dad suggested I not make the really yummy scalloped potatoes because they are so high in sodium. She wouldn't care if she can't eat the green beans but she really likes the potatoes. I can relate... -
ARCHIVED Amazing Self Administered Gluten / Soy Test
kareng replied to Tom2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I believe there is a place for other types of medicine. I don't see how anyone can react to a food sealed in a can. Maybe if they had taken it out of the can? Can you do acupuncture during a procedure? My mom, who believes there is a pill for everything, did it for a few years. Not sure who talked her into it. It worked well. If only she would have... -
ARCHIVED Why Do Some People Feel They *must* Have An Endoscopy?
kareng replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My blood tests were off the chart positive. The docs said you definetly have it. We decided to do an endo & colonoscopy to check the extent of the damage and mostly to make sure there wasn't anything else to deal with. -
ARCHIVED I Suspect I Am Gluten Intolerant. Any Advice?
kareng replied to LOWNskater52's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know about changing your body ph. I'm just saying that things like citrus irritate your stomach, especially with out a lot of other things in it. Thus, your burning stomach. As for trying to keep your blood sugar level....are you kidding? Maybe you should read up about that if you think that is an issue. Eating only carbs for a meal? Eating... -
To some extent they are correct. Does the guy wear glasses or contacts? 2500 (or whatever )years ago, a guy with bad eyesight would have been eaten or fallen off a cliff. He wouldn't procreate to make babies with bad eye sight. Really, without modern medicine, many of us would have died. My breech baby and I would have died. People with forms of...

ARCHIVED I Suspect I Am Gluten Intolerant. Any Advice?
kareng replied to LOWNskater52's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hon...you are only listening to about 25% of anyone's advice. And doing things guaranteed to make a sensitive stomach burn. Acidic things like lemonade on an empty stomach will burn. Broccoli is one of the most gas causing veggies. -
ARCHIVED Amazing Self Administered Gluten / Soy Test
kareng replied to Tom2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ok. I could see this if the food wasn 't sealed in a can. If they are reacting to anything, it's the can or glue or label. Or the fact that they know what's in the can. I just see him sitting at home laughing that he got a bunch of people to try this. It's like those games you play at a Girl Scout sleepover. -
ARCHIVED Amazing Self Administered Gluten / Soy Test
kareng replied to Tom2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually, I don't think it's such a funny joke anymore. I think he is disrespecting and making fun of the people with very real health issues who read and respond on this site.
