ARCHIVED Can I Use Sour Cream Instead ?
kareng replied to MyMississippi's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Pacific makes a condensed cream of chicken or celery. If either of those would work? -
ARCHIVED Spilled Milk? Seriously?!
kareng replied to Harpgirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I think I might agree with him. He stood there and watched your troubles and didn't help? He blames you because he didn't check for messages from his boss? He is too immature or mean to have more kids with. Tell him to grow up! He may just feel over-whelmed being responsible for 2 kids and afraid he can't take care of them much less, another... -

ARCHIVED Advil And Tylenol
kareng replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Did you look at the websites for the products? This is what it says on Advil: I am allergic to gluten. Is it all right for me to take this product? A: Gluten is not added to Advil -
ARCHIVED Safe Canned Tuna Fish?
kareng replied to *lee-lee*'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Please note: This is a very old thread. Product info from these posts should be re-checked as products change with time. Read the ingredients. I don't eat canned tuna so I'm not sure what is in it. If it had no gluten ingredients, you may be reacting to something else. -

ARCHIVED New To Gluten Free
kareng replied to Carolann444's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'll address the 2 main things here. Seizure- this is not normal! This can be dangerous. You need to get to a doctor right away. What if you had been driving? Seizures are serious and not a normal result of a gluten-free diet. Going gluten-free for months & then have an endoscopy is not a good idea. You need to be eating gluten to get a... -
ARCHIVED Is It Safe To Scope When Sick?
kareng replied to SilverSlipper's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't know where you live, but around the Midwest, there are several fungus thatyou can get in your lungs. Have they checked that? Has she had a chest xray? Have they looked at her sinus. My SIL has some sinus issues that cause infections that get to her lungs every winter if they don't keep up with it. I'll think on this a bit more. Ifi think... -

About 22 years ago, we moved into a lovely house with avocado shag carpet, avocado fridge and harvest gold oven. The appliances were 15 years old then, but going strong. We painted the fridge white & tore up that carpet. Peter, it may be time for a " makeover" in the kitchen. This fall makeover....did you change your hair color? Get implants? Botox... -
ARCHIVED Getting The Hubby On Board
kareng replied to theWiers's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First...it's a learning process and habit breaking process for all! If you are going to toast, get a $15 one that looks different from the gluten one. Keep it in the cabinet or put a cover on it. I have red cooking utensils. The gluten ones are black, maybe white. I get red duct tape or electrical tape to put on my margarine, PB, etc. No reminding... -

ARCHIVED Is It Safe To Scope When Sick?
kareng replied to SilverSlipper's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If & when they schedule a scope, ask what anesthesia group will be doing it. Then call them and ask. My sister had a horrible cough fall & winter when she was that age. Found out it was allergies. Have they tested her for the dust mites, pet allergies, etc? -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Or Not? Campbells
kareng replied to hercules25's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sounds gluten-free. I think I remember that being gluten-free is new? If you are still healing, it might not be gluten. Might just be part of healing. Might be another food that has been bothering you all along, but you didn't notice because of the gluten reaction. Can be frustrating! -
ARCHIVED Is It Ok To Be On gluten-free Diet Before Biopsy In 3 Weeks?
kareng replied to Jen Z's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No. In 3 weeks gluten-free, lots of stuff can heal. You should really stay on a full gluten diet for 3 months before any tests. Switch for the close one. Make sure he takes many biopsy sample of the small intestine. -

kareng replied to granolagal's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would take your iron now. It's unlikely that 100% of your intestines can't absorb anything at all. If you are taking the iron, you know that there is always some available for the part of your intestine that can pick it up. Don't take the iron with any calcium - food or vitamin. Also, get some sublingual B 12. You put it under your tongue and it is... -

ARCHIVED Diagnosed On Blood Tests Alone - Normal?
kareng replied to granolagal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It doesn't matter. Sorry, but it was positive ...so you have Celiac. I have been seeing articles that getting a biopsy isn't always necessary. It is hard to get the GI docs to admit it because the endo & Colonoscopy seem to make them big profits. If she will write down the diagnosis without it, you saved yourself some time & effort. I had a ... -

ARCHIVED Condensed Tomato Soup?--Suggestions Appreciated!
kareng replied to IrishHeart's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Pacific has a tomato soup that is gluten-free. It's not condensed. Might there be a way to use it and cut out other liquid? Not sure what's in condensed tomato soup. Could you make something similar for a recipe with crushed tomatoes? Might not taste good with a grilled cheese but might work well in a casserole or goulash?
