ARCHIVED Article Shared By Dietitian Who Doesn't Believe Celiac Exists....
psawyer replied to DingoGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, I didn't see anything on FB and I am also a friend. The item linked to is harmless, but does not tie in with this supposed dietitian. -
Welcome, Michael, Yes, the vast majority of people do heal after time on a strict gluten-free diet. I had significant damage at the time of my diagnosis. A follow-up examination five years later found no evidence at all of celiac disease in my intestines.

ARCHIVED Ordering Baked Potatoes At Restaurants
psawyer replied to Renaye's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Can you provide any examples for this. In my experience, "baked" means baked in the oven. Deep fried is quite a different thing. (Even if so, it may not be a source of gluten.) Hot oil would cook the outside quickly, but by the time the heat reached the middle of the spud, the outside would be seriously overcooked, IMO. -

Discount Tuesday prices today at Cineplex. And we had a gift card. Loved the movie. It builds on prior material in the franchise, so you may miss some references if you did not see the original series episode "Space Seed" or Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Live long and prosper.

ARCHIVED When Drug Companies Don't Certify...
psawyer replied to wmramsel's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, I accept this response. It is standard. Other than specialty food manufacturers, companies don't test for gluten and thus will not make a gluten-free claim for legal reasons. -

ARCHIVED Extreme Vomitting For Over 24-Hours
psawyer replied to crick3t's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nausea and vomiting were among my symptoms prior to dx, but never like what you describe. I am thinking along the same line as Karen--this sounds more like food poisoning than a gluten reaction. -

ARCHIVED Mushroom (Neroli) Memorial Thread
psawyer replied to Scott Adams's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Neroli was a friend to me, and to so many here. She was a pillar of strength, offering help and support to all who came here looking for it. Life threw her many challenges, and she overcame them all, until this last one. She will be missed. Her wit always livened up anything she was in on. Rest in peace, my dear friend. -

Bullseye Bbq Sauce
psawyer replied to Marie1976's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Modified food starch must be declared clearly as wheat if that is the source. That has been the law since 2006, but some old information is still out there. MFS is almost always from either tapioca or corn. Adalaide is right, it won't be rye, barley or oats. -

I again quote post #2. It has been edited many times, but the edit window is now closed, and this will be the final version. Nevertheless, I am capturing it (again). The source cited at the CDC lists 51 vaccines. Of those, six (6) are for Influenza (flu). None of those six contain material from human cells. Material cultured from human stem cells is used... -

ARCHIVED Hidden Foods! Was Doing So Well!
psawyer replied to Missmtl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am not aware of a source such as you are looking for, and would not recommend it even if I did. The problem with a list--any list--is that products change all the time. A list is based on a moment in time. The example of the product you have in hand may be newer, or older, than the information in the list. It does seem overwhelming at first, but... -

ARCHIVED "people With A Preexisting Condition"
psawyer replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
That is interesting about the Adenovirus vaccine, except that the Adenovirus vaccine is NOT a flu vaccine. On that Open Original Shared Link there are six Influenza (flu) vaccines listed, none of which contain the materials in question. -
ARCHIVED Trader Joe's
psawyer replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you that. Sometimes I think I may be the only one who gets that. Indeed, we are faced with shared/mixed facilities all the time. If you eat at a restaurant, it is almost certain that the facility is shared with gluten products (they offer bread at the table?) and the plates, cutlery and dishwasher are shared. Same goes for your residence. If anybody...
