1. Thirteenth paragraph, first sentence: "Eventually, doctors found he had celiac disease."
2. Well, I didn't see anything on FB and I am also a friend. The item linked to is harmless, but does not tie in with this supposed dietitian.
3. Welcome, Michael, Yes, the vast majority of people do heal after time on a strict gluten-free diet. I had significant damage at the time of my diagnosis. A follow-up examination five years later found no evidence at all of celiac disease in my intestines.
4. Can you provide any examples for this. In my experience, "baked" means baked in the oven. Deep fried is quite a different thing. (Even if so, it may not be a source of gluten.) Hot oil would cook the outside quickly, but by the time the heat reached the middle of the spud, the outside would be seriously overcooked, IMO.
5. Discount Tuesday prices today at Cineplex. And we had a gift card. Loved the movie. It builds on prior material in the franchise, so you may miss some references if you did not see the original series episode "Space Seed" or Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Live long and prosper.
6. Yes, I accept this response. It is standard. Other than specialty food manufacturers, companies don't test for gluten and thus will not make a gluten-free claim for legal reasons.
7. I wasn't paying any attention this time around, but yes, page 100 has arrived and with it, Her Royal Majesty, Queen Karen. Fanfare, please.
8. Nausea and vomiting were among my symptoms prior to dx, but never like what you describe. I am thinking along the same line as Karen--this sounds more like food poisoning than a gluten reaction.
9. Neroli (Mushroom) passed away a couple of days ago. More here in the memorial thread..
10. Neroli was a friend to me, and to so many here. She was a pillar of strength, offering help and support to all who came here looking for it. Life threw her many challenges, and she overcame them all, until this last one. She will be missed. Her wit always livened up anything she was in on. Rest in peace, my dear friend.
11. Caramel color is one of those celiac urban myths that just won't go away. Here is Shelley Case's take on it, from Gluten-Free Diet A Comprehensive Resource Guide: [Emphasis in original]
12. Modified food starch must be declared clearly as wheat if that is the source. That has been the law since 2006, but some old information is still out there. MFS is almost always from either tapioca or corn. Adalaide is right, it won't be rye, barley or oats.
13. I again quote post #2. It has been edited many times, but the edit window is now closed, and this will be the final version. Nevertheless, I am capturing it (again). The source cited at the CDC lists 51 vaccines. Of those, six (6) are for Influenza (flu). None of those six contain material from human cells. Material cultured from human stem cells is used...
14. Let's not forget Outback Steakhouse, one of the first to specifically cater to our needs.
15. Other than your personal photo in your member profile, this site has no facility for uploading photos. You can upload a photo to a site like photobucket or Flickr and then place a tag in a post to cause it to be shown in the post. For example, produces...
16. I am not aware of a source such as you are looking for, and would not recommend it even if I did. The problem with a list--any list--is that products change all the time. A list is based on a moment in time. The example of the product you have in hand may be newer, or older, than the information in the list. It does seem overwhelming at first, but...
17. If you are using a device where hovering is possible, hover over the member's name. A pop-up with what you are looking for will appear. Not all devices can hover--I know phones can not.
18. Nothing in that list is a gluten concern.
19. Your log in information consists of two parts. The first is a valid email address. When you join, an email message will be sent to that address, with a link you must use to confirm the validity. You can change the email to another valid email. The validation and confirmation process will be repeated to verify the new address. The second is a password...
20. The original poster started this topic, and may have actually read the first reply, but has not logged in since before the second reply was posted.
21. That is interesting about the Adenovirus vaccine, except that the Adenovirus vaccine is NOT a flu vaccine. On that Open Original Shared Link there are six Influenza (flu) vaccines listed, none of which contain the materials in question.
22. Thank you that. Sometimes I think I may be the only one who gets that. Indeed, we are faced with shared/mixed facilities all the time. If you eat at a restaurant, it is almost certain that the facility is shared with gluten products (they offer bread at the table?) and the plates, cutlery and dishwasher are shared. Same goes for your residence. If anybody...
