ARCHIVED Kind Of A Silly Question But Do Children Need Gluten Foods?
cap6 replied to answerseeker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can't see one thing wrong with not feeding kids gluten at home. They can always have their gluteny "treats" if you eat out or at school. I say say yourself a lot of stress and chance of cross contamination and do it all gluten-free a home! -
They use Udi's buns. Udi's required that the restaurant go through training on how to handle the product. they have special toss away toasing trays etc. This info was given to me by the kitchen manager of our local Red Robin. I travel alot and the awareness all seems to be pretty uniform.

ARCHIVED Responses To "i Have Celiac" Or "i Have Food Allergies" ...... Gotta Vent A Little!
cap6 replied to cap6's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I love the responses! For the most part I really don't have a problem eating out and/or at friends. Everyone has become accoustomed to me bringing my own stuff. It's that look of pity that still throws me. I wanna smack the server or something. lol One night I was really pushed to the edge with comments on "poor you" and looks from the server so that... -
ARCHIVED Responses To "i Have Celiac" Or "i Have Food Allergies" ...... Gotta Vent A Little!
cap6 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
After 3+ years I am pretty comfortable with Celiac and the whole taking my own food to friends or if we eat out etc. The things that still (!!!!) set me on edge is when I nicely say "No thank you, I have Celiac and can't eat gluten" or (because more people understand this) "No thank you I have a lot of food allergies" is when they respond with "Oh I am... -
No no and no on the gluten. You can make things worse for yourself. Myself, having had issues all of my life, I drink an herbal tea which has overnight results. It's good if you need some quick help to get back on track. Sometimes in spite of eating loads of fruits and veggies, water and all the rest we just need a little help.

ARCHIVED Three Days In And First Accidental Glutening
cap6 replied to laura1959's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This way of life can be very difficult at first. As you work to get rid of places that could be cross contaiminators (like the colander, cutting boards etc) then you can move on to other food items. Slow and steady and don't kick yourself (too hard!!) when you goof up. I had been at this for quite awhile before it hit me that the can opener could be a... -
ARCHIVED Three Days In And First Accidental Glutening

It's those pesky little holes in the colander. If it was used for gluten that stickly stuff is next to impossible to get out of the little holes. -
ARCHIVED Grains- Should We Be Wary Of Them All?
cap6 replied to VeggieGal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I sincerely apologize for making a blanket statement without backing it up with proof when I said that grains are not good for us. I Should have said..... based on the reading that I have done and believing in the Paleo diet, it is My opinion, and only My Opinion, that grains are not good for us. It appears (to me) that many many people have difficulty... -

ARCHIVED Grains- Should We Be Wary Of Them All?
cap6 replied to VeggieGal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Basicly grains are not good for anyone and are very hard to digest, and that isn't even going into how unhealthy GMO'd foods are. -
ARCHIVED If I Have A Very Rich Diet Can't I Just Eat The Same Thing Everyday?
cap6 replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
unless you are used to it you might want to be careful of hemp. It is high fiber and can cause some gut issues. If you aren't used to it. -

ARCHIVED Holy Molybdenum Batman. Eating Out gluten-free Is Hard
cap6 replied to rene83's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Movie popcorn - gluten free. Healthy to eat - probably no. Cross contaminated - pretty doubtful. Anything is possible but I think that we need to use our own good common sense here too and be careful of general blanket statements. If in doubt about a product then contact the main company. I figure that if I don't have time to read the ingredients or... -
I think it is a great move on their part. Personally i wouldn't eat the pizza just because i recall their gluten stuff as being bad tasting (lol!!) but.. what a plus for kids. Now they can go to those famous Chuck e Cheese b'day parties and eat along with all the other kids. Good for Chuck E Cheese for doing it right!

ARCHIVED Is It Normal To Constantly Be Starving?
cap6 replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Rice, noodles and bread which i assume are gluten free will not help. Eat fruit, veggies and meats. You need protein! -
I have had good luck by having the doctor add "gluten free" on to the bottom of the prescription. That the the pharmacy has to check for you as it is part of the prescription!

Bring your own. Don't eat what someone else has prepared just to save their feelings. Your hurting gut will not thank you later -
my first dietician printed off some infor from the internet (that I already had) and gave me a diabetic diet. I was month four into G.F. and knew far more than she did. Searched further and found someone wonderful that was with the Warren Foundation in San Diego who spent a lot of time with me and got me going on the right track. Bottom line.... important...

cap6 replied to shooz's topic in Super Sensitive People
Thank you for that. I always go inside for my refills as opposed to doing it on the phone and request clean pill trays. Sigh... one more thing to worry about. -

ARCHIVED Is Wine gluten-free?
cap6 replied to KikiUSA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Taken from the Journal of Gluten Sensitivity winter 2013 issue: Wine that is aged in oak barrels contains less gluten than we are currently capable of testing for, whether hydrolyzed or not. At this point, a lot of people will begin to shake their heads: “If wine is gluten-free, then why do I get sick when I drink __________ wine?” The likely ans... -
