ARCHIVED Generic Omeprazple
cap6 replied to Goof's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been working on weaning myself off of omeprazole. It has taken me 6 months to go from 2 omeprazole a day to 1/2. What has worked for me is taking 3.5 oz of liquid aloe 2x's a day. Just can't seem to work past that last 1/2 though. -
Our kitchen is 98% gluten free. One refrig drawer and on bottom shelf of the pantry can have gluten stuff. One small counter for eating anything gluten. I am the only one out of three of us but I cook so it works. The other two are very good and careful. Also, do look for a gluten free (or grain free) dog food. There are several brands that are out...

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Experienced One Or Some Of These Mental Health Issues?
cap6 replied to L.O.C.T.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed with depression & bi polar about 15 years ago and have been on meds since. Recently I was able to go off of one med entirely by cutting back slowly and have cut the second med dose in half. The more I heal the better I feel emotionally. My current dr agrees that the gut issues and depression can be linked and is very supportive with... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Cost Me Everything
cap6 replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am so sorry you lost your little friend. A pet is a member of the family. I lost my little cavalier in Feb and still grieve for her. My heart hurts for you and my thoughts are with you. -
My bff understood CC, had cooked for me in the past and I had no problems - I watched her like a hawk! This summer we stayed with her for 3 weeks and I kept getting sick, I had watched & helped her cook but then .... the light bulb went on. She had been using a sponge to wipe up the counters for both the gluten side and my side. I felt so stupid...

ARCHIVED Cracking Skin On Fingers
cap6 replied to Greg Rappaport's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
This was very interesting to read as I never thought about my finger cracking, just thought it was the weather or washing so much. My thumb and middle finger constantly crack open. Seems they no sooner heal then crack open again. I am 17 months gluten-free so wonder..... Also about 5 years before diagnosis I had a bout for almost a year of the itchy bumps... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Restaurant Chicken?
cap6 replied to stellagogo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
[quote name='GlutenFreeManna' Your parents may have to find other ways to treat you than taking you out to dinner. My parents now know there are very few places I can eat out and that I just don't enjoy it much since I have to worry about getting sick. I only eat at places with gluten-free menus becuase at least they have a better chance of having... -
ARCHIVED Applebee's Restaurant - Gluten Free Menu
cap6 replied to CalicoSue's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I have eaten at Applebees twice and twice been very sick. The last time the server understood (or so she said) celiac and CC. All I had was a salad and still was very sick. I would rather wait in the car while everyone else dines than go inside. -
ARCHIVED Embarrassing Question
cap6 replied to New-To-This's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That sounds a lot like me. My gas was so bad that it seemed like a constant flow. Since going gluten-free it is little to none. -
I am careful about shampoo since it runs down my face and my lips tend to become easily inflamed. I also am careful about hand soap and lotion. It seemed to me that it I washed with a gluten containing soap and then touched my food it might transfer. I don't know that for a fact but it just seemed to make sense to me.

ARCHIVED Cutting Board For Travel? Brand Or Style You Like?
cap6 replied to sreese68's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I found a small and very cheap one at the dollar store. I bought more than one and then just use them for travel. Small and cheap enough to toss if needed. -
I agree that suing isn't going to help. One of my fav restaurants removed their gluten-free menu for just that reason. Any time we eat outside of our own kitchen we take a chance.

ARCHIVED On The Topic Of Buying Fruit/veggies
cap6 replied to Newtoitall's topic in Super Sensitive People
So sorry - I was just being funny which sort of laid an egg! As for the wine - I have never felt it necessary to call a vineyard about gluten in wine. The vintner I spoke to about this was was attending and hosting the same wine tasting weekend at a resort as I was. Since we were casually chatting I took the opportunity to ask about the wheat paste/gluten... -

cap6 replied to slee11211's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Just took my first flight since celiac. I stuffed my bag full of gluten-free sandwich, nuts, lara bar, fruit & veggies. I took way more than I thought I might need for a 4 hour flight and it was a good thing as by the time we got our car and to the hotel I was starved! -

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination & Loved Ones
cap6 replied to badgerette's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am gluten-free, my partner and adult son are not. Our home is 95% gluten-free because I am the cook. They have their gluten food away from home. They do have a box of cereal, soup etc on the very bottom shelf of the pantry and keep a couple of things in the bottom drawer of the refrig. The majority of the time they just eat the same as I do cause it... -
ARCHIVED Yellowtail Savignon Blanc Has Gluten?
cap6 replied to MJ-S's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Recently I was at a resort that hosted a vintner weekend of wine tasting. i spoke with the vintner who explained the wheat paste issue to me. He statement was that the higher quality wines do not use the wheat paste as they properly seal their kegs. It is the lesser quality (under $5) wines that "could" be a concern as they are the ones that would be more... -
ARCHIVED Cooking For Non Celiac's
cap6 replied to james-12's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Do you feel that running stuff through the dishwasher on super hot will make them safe for gluten free use? Just curious. I do have my own gluten-free pots & pans but our dishes are used by all but run through the dishwasher on pots & pans cycle. Just wonder how others feel
