ARCHIVED An Expert's Opinion On Mcdonald's
jknnej replied to lovegrov's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
So, bottom line: can we have the fries or not? Katie, celiac3270, what do you think? Will you continue to eat them? -
ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
jknnej replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well I'm just plain bummed out. McD's fries were one of the last things I liked that I could eat when traveling. They suck. -
My friend has this very badly; in fact she's been out of work for 2 weeks because she falls over if she tries to walk! go see an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor so they can tell you if it is Meniere's Disease, another ear issue, or related to Celiac.

ARCHIVED What If You Don't Go Gluten Free
jknnej replied to jodikris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Clearly you need to see a better doctor. Not going gluten free is akin to ignoring chemotherapy if you have cancer. You will end up with some horrible disease, most likely, and will probably take a good 10 years off your life. Don't do that to your kids!! And, get them tested as well because it is genetic. In terms of motivation PLEASE ask us for help! We... -
Sorry to hear that you are feeling that way and I hope you feel better soon! Most of the suggestions I've read are really good. I definitely wouldn't take any meds while you are pregnant! Hopefully things will continue to go well! If you start feeling really bad try and see a doctor who has experience with depression, especially if it's after the baby...

Hey there all, A good friend of mine is suffering from this...sorry if I spelled it wrong! She is terribly sick at home in bed, dizzy and unable to get up. She asked me to look it up online because she doesn't have a computer so of course I came here. If anyone knows anything that can help when you are stricken with this, a reply would be great, as soon...

ARCHIVED Please Help
jknnej replied to 4tomorrow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your doctor actually saw flattening with the naked eye then you probably have celiac disease. My GI dr. said he does sometimes see signs of celiac disease with the naked eye; he didn't with me, but he has said he has before. I would start the gluten-free diet and see how you feel. How is the Bentl working for you? I was given that before Dx and it made... -
ARCHIVED Food Intolerance Testing
jknnej replied to jerseyangel's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If I could do it over again I'd save my money, too. It cost me $300 and an elimination diet is just as easy. Most people are just allergic to the main allergens, anyway, like soy, corn, peanuts, wheat, yeast, dairy. You can eliminate those and save your money! -
I've never had a problem with Diflucan, but I heard from my doctor that he won't prescribe it that much because taking it a lot is hard on the liver and the yeast become immune to it. But, my doctor also doesn't believe in intestinal yeast overgrowth. He gave it to me for a vaginal yeast infection.

ARCHIVED I Had A Breakdown In Whole Foods
jknnej replied to Kingschild's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hopefully the new food labeling law will help you now that all foods have to be clearly labeled for wheat. (except what was left over on the shelf from last year). I agree with whomever posted about the regular grocery store. I don't shop at specialty stores anymore; who can afford it? I go to the regular store and buy stuff I know is gluten free. We make... -
Wow, I hope you start to feel better soon. A few of the symptoms you described with the burping sound like reflux. I have that as well and I know how that feels. If the thyroid issues don't make it better I would see a GI Doc. I have a Schatski's Ring ( I don't know if I spelled that correctly!) around my esophagus so I have trouble swallowing as well....

ARCHIVED Could I Be Anymore Pathetic
jknnej replied to Firegirl43's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I get upset over foods I miss, too. Like Philly cheesesteaks and NY bagels. Oh I can't watch others eat them. Or Oreos cookies. Man, it sucks sometimes LOL! What actually upsets me the most, enough to make me cry, is just simple things like going out with others and watching them eat...like a pizza party at the school I teach. Feeling left out is almost... -
I love McDonalds fries and their McFlurry with M&M's. I've never gotten sick from either. it's cool, when they mix the McFlurry the spoon goes into the machine and turns it, so there's no risk for cross contamination. I always ask if they have a dedicated fryer and so far, so good.

It is always amazing to me to hear how dramatically people got better after going gluten free. That is so awesome. My stomach aches got dramatically better so in one sense I understand it. Oddly enough the effect the gluten-free diet had on my body was the reverse. I got depressed after going gluten-free. I wish someone in the medical field would do a study...

Wow, I obviously illicited a strong response from Jnkmnky. I don't feel I was nasty at all in my post; only honest. And I didn't call you reprehensible; I said giving medical advice to people you don't know is reprehensible unless you're a doctor. And I think it is. To me what you said is akin to telling a cancer patient who needs chemo to try medicinal...

I just have to say that it absolutely infuriates me to read a post suggesting people with depression "exercise more." First of all, we've tried that. Secondly, it doesn't work for everyone. There are many types of depression. Sometimes people get depression spurred from a traumatic experience in their life that they must recover from (divorce, death of...

ARCHIVED The Wrong Anti-depressant?
jknnej replied to StrongerToday's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Jcgirl, unless you know Ev in Michigan very well, I think it is terribly irresponsible of you to advise her not to take anti-depressants. You have no idea how much anxiety he/she has or if it is caused by Celiac or not. You are not a doctor and not qualified to suggest such a course of treatment, anyway. I myself never suggest anything other than what a... -
ARCHIVED Can I Vent For A Second.....
jknnej replied to gymnastjlf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am so sorry this happened to you. That girl sounds terribly inconsiderate. One day something will happen to her that she wishes people would understand and then she'll know what it's like. -
ARCHIVED The Wrong Anti-depressant?
jknnej replied to StrongerToday's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You need to give it at least a week or maybe 10 days. When I started taking Effexor, my doctor warned me that I would feel like crap for a few days. He was right: I was nauseated, tired, dizzy, all kinds of weird stuff. it's too early to tell if it's the wrong dosage or anything like that. If it doesnt' go away in the next couple of days then I would ask... -

Are you coming for the PF Chang's marathon? -
I bumped my thread on Effexor...it is under "Related Disorders....Anxiety Meds." It was interesting to read after 6 months! Boy was I suffering then. I didn't realize how much until I read my last post that read.."I haven't had a bad day in 4 days...a record lately." Wow..... About the Xanax..my dr. had given me some for anxiety attacks and I took 1/4 of...

Bumping this thread and adding that the side effects have gone away and I am feeling great! The only side effect I get now is sweating at night sometimes. It is a small price to pay for the piece of mind!

ARCHIVED Picazzo's Gluten Free Pizza
jknnej replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I go to Picazzo's in Tempe several times a week...today as I was waiting for my take out garlic cheese bread and caesar salad a man walked in and spoke with the manager. He said he was from NY, just got here, had Celiac Disease, and was starving! I didn't get to talk with him, but maybe he reads this board? Anyway, thank God for Picazzo's. It's one of the... -
Hi Joe, I've been gluten free for one year now and I never had depression before. I had mild anxiety, but only because I'd suffered from stomach aches my entire life. Since going gluten-free, I went from symptoms like you described where you just get down for a bit, to full blown depression. Again, I've never had depression before in my life. I've posted...
