  1. Does your mom support your diet? Tell you mom what this girl is saying to you. Don't let her get away with bullying you! She needs to be educated about celiac diseas and how dangerous it is for you to eat gluten. It might just be that this girl grew up with her mom MAKING her eat stuff she doesn't like and she thinks she should do that to other people...
  2. it's been a while sinc ei posted my meals here...Let's see...Recently we have had: Lettuce wraps http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/02/chicken-lettuce-wraps-crockpot-recipe.html Orange chicken http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2009/09/slow-cooker-orange-chicken-recipe.html Beef and bok choy soup (I made it with ground bison and in the slow cooker...
  3. Cut into strips and stir fry in a pan with onions and peppers to make fajitas. I season mine with chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt and pepper. Then put in soft corn tortillas (homamde if you can make them or Mission brand is gluten-free). Put in the slow cooker and top with onions, bell peppers, a can of tomatoes, and a couple chopped garlic cloves...
  4. 3.29 is CHEAP where I live! I pay about 4.99 for a bag of Tinkyada and that's at the less expensive store. Most places it is over $5. The cheapest gluten-free pasta I have tried is Trader Joes brown rice at $2.99 or Sam Mills Corn pasta from Big Lots for $1.29 (limited shipment I guess becaus ei have not found it again there). Both were edible but neither...
  5. Did you have a celiac bloodwork panel done? I had mos tof those symptoms you listed except the jaw and nose thing...had constant sinus infection though and migrain headaches. You want to get all your bloodwork done before going gluten-free, otherwise you would have to go back to gluten later to test. The neurological symptoms do go away slower than...
  6. I have not tried that type of Pamelas but I like all the ones I have tried. I eat the ginger snaps whenever my stomach is upset. And the soft ginger cookies with almonds are great too. I also like the chocolate chip..I'm not sure if those are nut free, sorry. I didn't really like the Enjoy Life chocolate chip cookies, but they changed the recipe recenlty...
  7. I can get on board with you about the cupcake place rant! A new bakery with "gluten-free" baked goods opened up recently in my area. I emailed them to ask how "gluten free" there gluten free items are--i.e. what measures do they take to prevent cc, etc. The reply said that they do use the same sifters, mixers and pans for their gluten free flour as for...
  8. I don't have many recipe either. I do one of two things: Top with mayo, then sprinkle with paprika bake as you would normally. Or Fry: Two pie plates or shallow dishes--one with egg and a couple tablespoons water (use buttermilk or milk if you can have it). The other one with about 1/2 cup glutenous rice flour, about a tablespoon cajun seasoning...
  9. If I could still have cheese I would make this recipe with Tinkyada pasta: Open Original Shared Link
  10. There have been a few threads on here where other people reported reacting to Udi's so you are not the only one that has a problem with it. It could be anything from the Xathan gum to one of the "dough conditioners" they use. Especially since you said you have not eaten much gluten-free bread before there's a good chance you have an intolerance to one of...
  11. Tx Plox girl I know you have been around for a while but I don't think it's very accurate to say that "all gluten-free packaged foods still have low levels of gluten in them..." The truth is we can't know for sure if they have small amounts of gluten because it's impossible to test for amounts smaller than 5 PPM. I am very, very sensitive to cc, but for...
  12. Wheat has to be listed by law in the US. BUT barley, rye, oats and malt (from barley) does not have to be listed.
  13. I have a similar situation going on with the inlaws. My husband and I have opted to stay home this year. I don't know what I'll be making for our private little Easter dinner yet. We might just go out, although I hate the risk and expense of dining out too...we really can't win sometimes.
  14. Okay so I googled "choco taco" as I have never heard or seen this before. Clearly not gluten free, HOWEVER I found a recipe to make them at home which I think could be converted to gluten-free. The only gluten part is the flour. Any gluten-free AP flour mix (or maybe gluten-free Bisquik?) should work I would think... Here's the recipe: Open Original...
  15. I've never bought anythign from an ice cream truck...do they give you things in the package with ingredient labels? I suppose you could always ask them about ingredients... Plain ice cream is usually fine but if they are scooping it and also scooping cookie dough or cookies and cream ice cream with the same scooper, well I wouldn't trust any scooped ice...
  16. It depends on the brand...many nuts do have statments on them such as "may contain wheat".
  17. Here's an article that seems to indicate that you can but it will not be the same as store-bought coconut flour: Open Original Shared Link Actually, it sounds like homemade would be better. If you try it let us know how it works.
  18. Enjoy Life makes bars that are gluten free as well as nut free (and free of all 8 major allergens actually). Even though you are allergic to nuts you could make a trial mix out of things you can have like dried fruit, raisins, craisins, sunflower seeds, shredded coconut, chocolate chips (they may melt if it's hot though), banana chips, Chex cereal, gluten...
  19. So you're trying to say that you ate only red meat for all those times when you got sick? No seasonings, marinades, buns, or side dishes with the meat? Were you on the paleo diet or something? Even if you didn't eat gluten at the same time as the meat if you ate some gluten several hours (or even a day before) and then got sick when eating the meat it...
  20. I was so fatigued and in pain I spent several months bed-bound. Drs. tested me for everything under the sun (except celiac) and wanted to diagnose me with either fibromalysia or chronic fatigue syndrome. Now over a year off of gluten I am able to do things again instead of wasting my days in bed barely aware of what day it is or what is going on around...
  21. I love to cook but I also like to make simple things that don't require a lot of work and are hard to mess up. As someone else mentioned the crockpot--that is my favorite way to cook these days. If you haven't seen it yet check out Open Original Shared Link Everything on there is gluten free.
  22. Their Organic has yeast extract in it. The natural is also gluten free and has no yeast extract. Why they would feel the need to put extra ingredients in their "organic" broth is beyond me but I react to yeast extract (not a gluten thing) so I just buy the Pacific natural if I have to buy broth. Most of the time I make my own broth and have a bunch of...
  23. If you are looking for restaurants in your area with gluten-free menus or travelign and want to know what is near your destination try glutenfreeregistry.com Keep in mind that chain restaurants vary by location. I have a list of ones I loosely trust in my area BUT I have also had bad results with these same restaurants while traveling. I am in Virignia...
  24. Hi, yes it can be overwhelming looking at those recieps with so many kinds of flours...Unfortuantely most gluten-free baking turns out better with several flours instead of just one kind. What you might want to do is start by using a pre-made flour mix and follow the recipe on the bag or on the company website. This will give you a chance to learn how gluten...
  25. You're welcome! I hope you can get them in your stores. I don't know the cholesterol content (for the OP that was concerned about cholesterol) but I do know they are around 220 calories each and a whole lot of sugar! Don't indulge too often if you have a blood-sugar issues. My sugar spikes big time and then crashes when I have one of these but I just take...
