  1. I WAS going to have a fruit smoothie. After adding everything to the blender, I turned on the blender and it didn't work. Kaput. So, I have a dead blender on my hands but thankfully my new gluten-free Chex cereal came through for me!
  2. Pork Shoulder Braised in Spicy Sweet Balsamic Sauce Baked Onion Rings Buttermilk Chive Smashed Potatoes Garden Peas with Crispy Sage Am considering making pavlova with basil simple syrup for dessert.
  3. If I do not have my own on hand I use Better than Bouillon. It is a thick paste so you obviously must add water. The flavours are nearer to the real thing than most. They have all sorts of yummy flavours including mushroom, lobster, au jus, clam, fish... Some are kosher, some are reduced sodium. Most do not contain gluten but I believe a couple do. ...
  4. Another thing I recommend is get inspired to cook! Go to your local grocery store or fresh market and look for things you have not cooked with before such as jicama, lemongrass, salsify - any interesting ingredient. Then research it and plan a meal around it. Didn't even touch on ethnic dishes yet. That is another topic but you can have tons of Thai...
  5. Can you have potatoes and dairy? If so, roast some garlic, puree it and put in mashed potatoes that include butter and cream (since you would like to gain a bit of weight!). Or simply roast potatoes that have been cut into chunks (or use new baby potatoes) with some fresh herbs and olive oil. You can make oven fries with potatoes or sweet potatoes and...
  6. So glad this helps you! I soooo badly want to have baths with epsom salts but my pain is too great to get out of the tub (herniated discs and such). But it must feel so very good.
  7. Just in the past week or so. I realized I wasn't complaining about my pain as much. At first I thought it was my attitude (hee hee) but then I realized it was physiological as well. I thought it was a teeny tiny difference so was wondering if I was imagining things but then it hit me the other day. My calves are spasming a lot less. My back/hips/shoulders...
  8. I understand your frustration. In Canada we are even behind the U.S.! In preparation for a recent trip to Italy and Croatia I discovered that testing for celiac disease for every single person in Italy is mandatory by the age of 5. Amazing. It was interesting eating out in Italy; at a gelateria I was told I definitely could not have any of the gelato...
  9. Sorry to jump in here but my chronic pain management surgeon highly recommends magnesium glycinate. He said nearly all magnesium available is only absorbed about 20-30% EXCEPT for mag glycinate which absorbs 85-90%. He also recommends that those with chronic pain need to gradually take up to 900-1800 mg per day (at night time)!! I am currently at 750 mg...
  10. You MUST do this for your sake - for your future. I do not know why you are not feeling better yet - perhaps it is another food intolerance? There are others on this forum who are more experienced with that than I. Are you taking supplements such as sublingual B12, B complex, D3 liquid gels, etc? They can help you absorb better so you feel better. ...
  11. Is this recipe your favourite crust recipe thus far? So glad you can have cheese. I went lactose free for a few months and am stilling drinking lactose-free milk and eating lactose-free yogurt but am eating lots of cheeses (especially asiago, chevre, Parmesan, pecorino...). I am going to try a new pizza crust recipe from the Culinary Institute of America...
  12. An uncle of mine has celiac, as does a second cousin. I strongly suspect several more relatives do, too. One of my aunts also believes she is celiac. I am absolutely positive my Mom has it, too, but as her bloodwork came back negative she is not interested in further testing. She has about 872 symptoms and it is so obvious to me - I am certain her...
  13. He'd better or he'd be in serious trouble!
  14. Welcome here! I am with you on this issue. There are a few things I attribute to celiac such as three miscarriages and I used to have ridges in my fingernails until recently but I do not feel sick at all from gluten. In fact, I really enjoyed pigging out on gluten for three months prior to my biopsies. I have been gluten-free for four months and it has...
  15. I, too, prefer the N. Carolinian sauce for pulled pork. Last time I made pulled pork with pureed mango and it was amazing! I just made a big batch of Kansas City stype BBQ sauce today. I know that so many states in the US are serious about their grilling! We are in Canada, too, but not to that extent. Too bad! Man, I love Osso Bucco! Have you done...
  16. Thanks for the encouragement as always, Irish! I simply cannot wait to have some of this inflammation disappear. I will run and leap and jump and climb (well, out of public view). I love that your seasonal allergies have disappeared. Isn't it insane what stupid dumb gluten can do to a body? Wow. It does not cease to amaze me. My seasonal allergies...
  17. My husband tells me almost daily how grateful he is! But I love to cook and bake so much that it is a pleasure. If I open a restaurant you will be the first to be invited! Thanks for the kind words.
  18. I use Crest, Colgate or Aquafresh, all of which are gluten free. My teeth are very sensitive so I must use the sensitive variety.
  19. Good suggestion. Wonder if we get Country Life in Canada? Will check it out.
  20. Tonight I am making homemade gluten-free ravioli filled with my own mint ricotta and homemade pumpkin seed pesto, finished with a drizzle of pumpkin seed oil. Microgreens from the garden with apple cider vinegar and sumac vinaigrette. Homemade gluten-free bread with garlic chive butter.
  21. Thanks! I am dealing/coping/managing (with) it far better mentally than I was. I no longer avoid things because of fear. I go ahead and do things and if I have to stand, I stand. It is so cool that your pain has improved going gluten-free! Hopefully that will be an unexpected benefit for me, too.
  22. That is horrific! I certainly do not blame you for wanting to remain anonymous. I, too, will not do Facebook because of the scary things I have heard from others about it. Right or wrong, I am also somewhat of a non-conformist as well so stubbornly often do not do what most others are just to prove a point! Remaining anonymous is INCREDIBLY important...
  23. Actually, it is true for me as well. When I was typing I was thinking back pain but typed celiac. Am I having a foggy morning or what? My back, etc. pain is far worse to travel with than celiac. To travel to my in laws would require my getting up to stretch about 16 times (4-hour journey) or lie down in the vehicle. I think we are sort of bad...
  24. Me, too! Plus the long drive to see my in laws... This celiac thing can sure come in handy sometimes!
