ARCHIVED Just When I Thought I Had This Figured Out.
kwylee replied to jeannieknits's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow, totally agree with TXPLOWGIRL. You are ingesting gluten if you are eating that cereal. -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Think About This?
kwylee replied to Lexi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not sure about everyone, but the degree to which I feel badly is commensurate with the amount of gluten ingested, so eating anything additional would only make a bad situation worse. -
ARCHIVED Anything Help With The Brain Fog?
kwylee replied to healinginprogress's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can sympathize. It took me 3 months to be mostly free of the brain fog, but I have gathered here that it takes others longer. Everyone is different. The only thing that worked in the end was time. In the meantime, if it helps at all, there are many others that know that feeling, so you're not alone, and after living with it myself for many years before... -
ARCHIVED Does Having Celiac Make You More Susceptible To Colds?
kwylee replied to SaraKat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Totally agree with that Vitamin D suggestion!!!! -
So glad you stood up for yourself. Isn't it doctors who are supposed to go by the adage, "First do no harm"???? I had to smile at your story. Would have been great if you would have barfed on his shoes!! Hope you're feeling much better.

ARCHIVED For Those Of You With Soy Allergy...
kwylee replied to Free-CountryGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Soybean oil absolutely makes me dizzy within 10 minutes of ingestion. I do not have an allergy to soy, just intolerant because of the gluten/casein/soy connection. -
ARCHIVED Severe Gluten Withdrawals
kwylee replied to SeanxAhern's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You're describing my exact symptoms during "withdrawal", and that lasted about 3 weeks for me. I know it makes you feel badly and it was definitely a little frightening at times, but it was great comfort to come to this forum and find MANY people who knew exactly what I was going through, and that it was absolutely normal for my body to be reacting that... -
ARCHIVED Do I Really Have Celiac Disease Or Am I Gluten Intolerant?
kwylee replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was told that it is possible to carry the gene but never get the disease. But that certainly means staying gluten free because of that disposition. That being said, if I were given all the results that you have, I would certainly think Celiac disease. -
ARCHIVED Life Insurance
kwylee replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have worked in the life insurance industry for many years. In that time I have routinely communicated with many underwriters directly, and I would be surprised to learn that anyone had been outright declined based on having celiac disease alone, i.e., an instant decline with no discussion. It certainly could be a factor in overall health condition, so... -
Well, I can add something else to the list of things I can eat that do not make me dizzy!!! Over the course of two days, I ingested about 8 oz of HoneyBaked Ham and all I got was the obligatory tired feeling I get whenever I eat too much of stuff I can't pronouce, like sodium blah blah blah! But addressing the initial poster in this thread who unfortunately...

I think you misunderstand; I haven't tried it yet (since being gluten free) but totally agree that it could be something else that made the original poster feel so badly, like cross contamination, OR I haven't called them back to see if there could somehow be casein or soy in it, hope not. Anyway, I get a certain kind of feeling when I ingest gluten...

I sent a question via the HoneyBaked Ham website yesterday and received a reply today that was less than conclusive and now, based on the original poster's trouble, has me wondering. This was the response when I asked if it was possible if the Covington, LA, store could be using a different glaze prep or some other method that would alter the gluten free...
-
Yes, definitely a HoneyBaked Ham store, in Covington, LA. I wanted to get one for Thanksgiving but the girl who answered the phone put me on hold to double check and came back and said that I shouldn't eat it because it contains gluten. I was so bummed but obviously didn't order based on that info. After reading these posts yesterday, I called the same...

I called my local Honey Baked ham shop and they told me that it WAS NOT gluten free. Seems that the individual owners must use different recipes for the glaze, because I too have read that they are supposed to be gluten free. Bummer.

ARCHIVED Poll: gluten-free Diet - Easy Or Hard
kwylee replied to tarnalberry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had such severe neurological symptoms for so many years prior to my stumbling onto the gluten/casein/soy culprit, I honestly thought I was dying. Countless doctors disagreed, but I figured there had to be a yet undetected brain tumor or something of the sort that was making me feel weird and foggy and wobbly and tired all the time. I was right about the... -
ARCHIVED My Husband Has Been Very Supportive
kwylee replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, yes, yes!!! From the start, my husband was happy to eat whatever I did. He helps to prepare meals and after we had a couple of cross contamination issues at the beginning, he felt horrible that he made me feel badly. Now he is more careful than I am!! I really appreciate his support and I tell him that all the time. -
ARCHIVED Nonceliac Gluten Intolerance
kwylee replied to enolah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do not have celiac disease but have tested gluten and casein intolerant. I also had to remove soy of any kind. Now more than 6 months into having eliminated all of these, I feel fantastic - as long as I do not accidentally cross contaminate. I have read about the possibility that I'll be able to add casein and soy back in time (never will be able to ingest... -
Perhaps you are reacting to something else besides gluten. Ingesting casein in dairy makes me dizzy. Some say that response could go away in time, but for now, I avoid all of it and I've felt great now for months.

ARCHIVED Onset Of Neurological Symptoms After Being Glutened
kwylee replied to HardcoreDior's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
90% of my symptoms are neurological, and not sure if this is typical of all who are gluten intolerant. If I ingest just a bite of either gluten, casein or soy, I feel dizzy within 10 minutes. For me, the response duration is commensurate with the amount ingested. Just a taste of something can leave me feeling "weird" for an hour. Since I am now accustomed... -
ARCHIVED Share How Gluten Free Has Improved Your Life.
kwylee replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
1. Blood pressure went from average of 135/90 to avergage of 110/72 2. Lost weight without trying, like my body is normalizing on its own (I don't eat gluten free goodies regularly, just unprocessed, preservative free foods) 3. Energy through the roof 4. Clear thinking and optimistic 5. Not "hot" all the time - now I get cold when everyone else... -
I am gluten intolerant through Enterolab testing as well, and do NOT have Celiac disease. (I know there are those on this website who feel that everyone who is gluten intolerant has Celiac disease, but please know that I have read an abundance of intelligent research, and I am a firm believer that gluten intolerance manifests in many ways, not always Celiac...

ARCHIVED Igg Elisa Food Intolerance Testing...?
kwylee replied to sb2178's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've read that some people who are intolerant to gluten are genetically predisposed, while others develop the intolerance at some point after birth. If this is true, I am wondering if any scientific headway, (e.g., desensitization) would be more effective for those who are not genetically intolerant. Do you know if it's possible to "turn off" genes? -
ARCHIVED Question To Those Avoiding Dairy
kwylee replied to srall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, yes, yes! It would appear that your question about dairy was gluten related after all! I am gluten intolerant but tested neg for lactose intolerance. Found out it was the CASEIN in dairy that was affecting me, makes me feel just as bad as gluten does. So, I don't ingest either and I'm much happier! LOVE the hint about the sesame seeds. -
ARCHIVED My Skin Smells Like Smoke!
kwylee replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have the same thing sometimes, it's a smoky, tobacco smell - no one will be smoking, and no one smells it but me. It's happened on occasion for years, but I have found it happens more frequently since I removed gluten/casein from my diet. I've never smoked either, in fact, I've always reacted fairly strongly to tobacco smoke of any kind. But my parents... -
ARCHIVED Chlorella?
kwylee replied to mamaw's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This thread is almost a year old, but when I ran across it, wanted to give an update. I checked with Mercola about 3 months ago to see if his chlorella was gluten free, and was advised NOT to take it (or his probiotic) due to gluten or cross contamination. I was a bit bummed because I really liked it, but haven't taken it since. I still take his Krill...
