  1. Nope, I don't think you are being unreasonable. My situation is different than yours, but I can understand your frustration all too well. My husband has disability (see my sig), and a) my parents don't seem to understand that travelling, for him, is sometimes basicly impossible, and I needed to quit working in order to take care of him AND *MY* health...
  2. I love hearing about people's 'small sucesses'-- and you've got some AWESOME ones there!! Excellent!!!
  3. Hi there!

Yes, I am several years older than your hubby, but a Thanksgiving birthday is a pretty cool day to be born on :>) Although I did hear a few turkey jokes through the years...my nephew's little boy was born this past THX. morning! (but it was the 25th this year)

  4. something else i forgot to mention earleir would be to have gluten-free medicatons (pain releivers, cough drops & syrup, Pepto, at least 3 days worth of any perscription) as wellas gluten-free soap, toothpaste, & other toiletires in your emergency kit.
  5. here are links to two threads where gluten-free communion has been discussed within the last few months, they probably have good suggestions that may work for you (it never hurts to do a search)
  6. Hi and welcome! I think a lot of us know how you're feeling (trust me, I understand the 'I don't want to be different' thing!!) You are correct to be leery of the Quaker oats... any oats that aren't certified gluten free are cross-contaminated with wheat-- they are either grown in a field near wheat, &/or processed on the same production lines...
  7. Kind bars are gluten-free as well. and so are Sunkist fruit snacks-- it's a nice, ORANGE box--- says gluten- free on the back. Dinty Moore Beef Stew is also labelled gluten- free. cans or packets of tuna. bags or boxes of gluten-free cookies/ animal crackers/ crackers/ pretzels/ would work. some o this stuff you would probably want to rotate...
  8. I'm a caregiver to a disabled family member, you darn well better bet that I miss CONVENIENCE the most!! I dislike that the only things I can get at Wendy's is the chili, baked potato, and *maybe* a side salad (and since i seem to have problems w/ fructose, even the chili or salad can be problematic for me)... I dislike that I now have to go to...
  9. Those are great observations!! AWESOME!!!
  10. Hi!! I'm self- diagnosed gluten- intolerant (or celiac, who knows...) and IC [and for anyone reading, no i don't just go around diagnosing myself with things. I do my research. And I've had too many not- so good experiences w/ doctors to want to deal with them unless absolutely necessary. And no, I don't have the luxury of being able to switch drs!] Thankfully...
  11. YAY, That's AWESOME!!
  12. that's a great story!! and if the husband thinks we gluten- free'ers bad at Superbowl time, he should try shopping in the gluten- free section right before Thanksgiving or Christmas (the only time I've ever had to wait more than 2 mins in line at our local gluten- free store was when I went there just a couple days before one of the holidays this last...
  13. I'm six feet tall (2nd tallest in the family- oldest brother is taller. yes, I am taller than both my parents, and other older brother (yes, I'm the youngest & only girl-- yes, my brothers teased me a lot- & yes, I learned fast how to tease right back as best I could!) I am self- diagnosed, so don't formally know if I have gluten intolerance or celiac...
  14. When I finally went totally gluten-free last Aug (I was gluten- lite for a while before that), I also realized I was having problems w/ dairy. About 3 weeks ago I started trying cheese & yogurt, and I have no problems with them. Still can't do milk or ice cream w/ o a Lactaid pill, though-- and even then I can't have too much. I am also trying to figure...

  22. That is absolutely AWESOME And WONDERFUL!!!! I used to get cold sores pretty much every couple weeks (sometimes more than one at a time!), and since going gluten-free I haven't gotten them as often, and actually, I'm 6 mo gluten-free now and rarely get them!! I also had to cut out all dairy-- just this last week i've been able to eat cheese and a little...
  23. hamburger patty/ cheese/ ketchup on a warmed up corn tortilla (need to buy some gluten-free hambuger buns), and Alexia french fries w/ ketchup.
  24. I know there have been a couple people here who have said they're on a limited income, maybe one or a couple of them would be interested and you could work out a way to send it to them .
  25.
