  1. I've only been at this a few more months than you. My (self-inflicted) rules after a poisining are... lots of water, homemade chicken soup, a hot soak in the tup with epsom salts and baking soda, and a good night's sleep. Exercise if you can. You want to get it out of your system.
  2. OMG! I can't imagine how hard it is for mom and little munchkin. Are they keeping a food diary? I wouldn't use pre-made burger patties of anything, but that could just be me. I hope they figure it out!
  3. I tried plain quinoa within a few months of going gluten-free. It kicked me in the teeth. (Actually, it kicked me somewhere else, and it took me a few days to recover.) I waited awhile to try oats. I called in sick on Monday because I tried certified gluten-free oats on Sunday (broke my rule about trying new foods on Friday so I'd have time to recooperate...
  4. Grazing is ok, but I'd try to give up the sugary things (unless it's fresh fruit, since you'll get good nutrients and fiber.) And yes, I had a hard time sitting down to a meal for the first few months. It gets better.
  5. Grilled mahi-mahi marinated in fresh lemon juice, garlic and ground pepper with a little olive oil, salad, and a perfectly ripe, fresh mango. Dinner was ab fab tonight.
  6. I scored a level 4 allergy to turkey after being gluten-free for about six months. (You need to carry an epi-pin if you score a 5 on a scale of 1-5.) I never really cared for turkey anyway, so it hasn't bothered me. It could be CC or it could be new food allergy...has she had the little guy see an allergist yet? If not, it might be worthwhile. ...
  7. Welcome to the forum, Milkmommy Many members have found that eliminiating soy and dairy for the first 2-3 months helps with the recovery process. Despite the information you received from your doctor (if any), some of the alternative grains can also be problematic while you are healing. What are you eating? List what you've eaten for the past...
  8. Marinated grilled chicken, sweet potatoes and salad.
  9. You can make pulled chicken, beef or pork with a recipe like this in a crock pot. Open Original Shared Link For 20 people, I'd do two (a pork butt roast and a chicken or beef roast.) That's alot of people to feed! Add red or black beans (nobody will know if you just heated them up from the can and sqeezed a lime over them, but if you have...
  10. I turned obsessive/compulsive about kitchen towels and dish cloths a couple of months after I went gluten-free. My sig other isn't consistent about remembering CC issues, and can be Dennis the gluten-free Menace. I purchase cloth dish towels and cloths by the stack at a discount store, and change them out ever day or as needed. (Sometimes twice a day...
  11. I think all of her comments were mean and ungracious. As for dealing with her in the future, would your husband agree to do one of the semi-annual trips without you? You could use that alone time. It's wonderful...go get a pedicure, read a book while you take a nice soak in the tub, visit a museum or park that he wouldn't be interested in, lay in the...
  12. I agree with Sylvia, try eliminating dairy for awhile. If that doesn't work, try eliminating soy and then corn and all derivitives. Good luck, it's a journey. Hope you feel better soon!
  13. Using the search engine on the forum has helped me a number of times, and I think you might find it useful too. This forum has literally been a lifesaver for me. No P.S. My favorite lunch is choppd lettuce (preferably romaine, which has a good shelf life.) Top that with safe tuna (tuna and olive oil is what it should read on the label) or leftover...
  14. Grilled shrimp kabobs with onion and mango chunks (could substitue any fresh fruit slices) and greek olives. It ended up sweet and sour and savory, a nice surprise (just used what I had and hoped it would be edible, and it was really good!) Served the kabobs with brown rice pilaf.
  15. Hi cassthedancer and welcome! You have quite a few indicators of celiac disease (at least four, five with family history). I'd get retested, and if the results were negative, I'd give gluten-free a whirl. Wish I had way back when...versus letting my diet snap me practically lifeless. (Dumb thing I did even when symptomatic because doctors...
  16. You've been there, I take it. I know I have. Sorry I misinterpreted your post.
  17. With respect, the anxiety is very real and dehabilitating can be connected to gluten and/or for some) soy ingestion. https://www.celiac.com/articles/22210/1/Anxiety-and-Depression-in-Adults-with-Celiac-Disease-on-a-Gluten-free-Diet/Page1.html Open Original Shared Link To the OP, I hope you're feeling better. If you're like me, once I get over...
  18. The dog is an 11 year old Dobie and is treated like a queen here. As well she should, she killed a 3' coral snake on our screened in back porch a week ago. I haven't used the leftovers yet. We had grilled ribs, romaine salad with a garlic viniagrette and roasted new potatos last night. The dessert from last night seriously hurt me today. I...
  19. Lara bars and safe nuts in your tote and suitcase. I'd pack fresh fruit and peanut butter in my little cooler just in case you face travel delays. Maybe some crudites and hummus. I'd pack like a squirrel, nuts, seeds... Hope you have a great trip!
  20. I do too! I love the marrow! My dear BF gives his bones to our beloved dog, which puts me in a quandry. I just don't say anything. How could he respect me if I asked him to wait, i want to have that marrow before you give it to that poor decrepid dog? It kills me. I was out of lemons yesterday but there are leftovers and I always have fresh parsely...
  21. Three words of wisdom, learned on this forum. SOY is evil. (For some, including me.) And I have to add, since I can never do just three words, that soy is especially bad if you have thyroid issues or concerns.
  22. I would suspect the mayo if it was processed. Probably made with soy oil. (Gluten's evil twin to our autoimmune system.) I keep a little stash of anti-anxiety meds for times like you're enduring now. They help ward off that awful feeling. (Ativan or Xanax .5 mg, cut them in half to save money.) Other advice: soak in a hot bath with epsom salts...
  23. I am of Dutch descent. My mother was diagnosed with celiac disease, and I'm pretty sure my maternal grandfather had it, but was never diagnosed. So far, none of my first degree relatives have been diagnosed with it. I can see "it" in my older brother and a great niece, but have brought it up enough times that I won't mention it again. I don't have...
  24. I'm glad that he pays his proper respects!
  25. Love, pulled pork only takes 30 minutes in a pressure cooker! (But you brown the pork and onions, carrots, etc first.) I used a N. Carolina BBQ sauce found online that was just apple cider vinegar, dried pepper, brown sugar, red pepper, garlic and knowing me I added onion. Made that the night before, and stuck it out on the porch. I added left over...
