ARCHIVED Voices And Other Noises
Marilyn R replied to alex11602's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm pretty sure I've had undiagnosed celiac disease my whole life. When I was 5 years old, I used to climb down 13 steps in the middle of the night to wake up my parents and tell them that there was a tiger behind my door, or under my bed or in the closet. Good thing I had patient parents. Have you cut out soy and dairy? Those proteins can be a problem... -
ARCHIVED Goodbye My Sweet Friend Dairy...
Marilyn R replied to Marz's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Marz, Good luck! It takes a journey to find out what is bugging you. Personally, quuinoa kicks me almost dead. So do certified gluten-free oats. But that doesn't mean that they will affect you, and there are foods that will bug you that won't bug other people. We have a mean little army working inside our bodies that want to attack what... -
Do you still need to use CPAP or were your sleep problems resolved by going gluten-free? Jus wondering. Great post by Mushroom,

ARCHIVED Hard To Believe What Ive Become
Marilyn R replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
this viscous thought process takes place every time i go out, but it never prevents me from going out. I still refuse to eat at home all the time or bring food into a restaurant..if i do that then whats the point of anything anymore? I'm happy to report that there is life after not going out anymore! And life is good! -
What are you eating besides the suspected probiotics?

I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well and are so frustrated Shadow. I don't know anything about benifiber or benefiber. Can you do Romaine lettuce? The only reason I ask is because after having D for a very long time, I started having constipation after going gluten-free for about 8 months. When I started having a big healthy salad with Romaine...

I just waited to eat until lunch. Bad me. -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Marilyn R replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sorry about all of my typos. I've discovered that my most ravenous time is mid day, so I upgraded my lunchbox. It's now a 12 pack cooler from WalMart sporting goods section. (I'd been carrying a 6-pack). This evening I pre-loaded it with safe dried cranberries and nuts, a little bottle of olive oil. I cut my lime in half for tomorrow, chopped up some... -
ARCHIVED Odd Benefits Of Going Gluten Free
Marilyn R replied to Cattknap's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As for benefits of going gluten-free, we are saving money!!! I've been gluten-free for 15 months. At first it was more expensive because I was buying really expensive repacements for the processed food we were used to. That didn't always work out so well, probably because I have more food intolerances, By eliminating dining out and cooking... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

I had lunch at work today with a coworker who brought curried goat. I have her recipe now. You could really bum him out if you put goat on the grocery list. (We can get frozen goat from West Indies grocery stores or Indian gorcers here.) We had little grilled burgers and fennel sausage tonight with sweet cheeries and sliced peaches and green salad... -
ARCHIVED Sick Or Starving/any Advice?
Marilyn R replied to DianeSeekingInfo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I second GFManna, it would help if you list what hyou eat. The other thing that lept out out me was that you couldn't tolerate cocunut milk. Could it be an additive in the canned milk that you can't handle? (I think almost all of us have had problems with chemical additives. I know it's really difficult to change from a vegan diet. I found chilled... -
ARCHIVED Emotional And Physical Damage
Marilyn R replied to Living Large's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey sista Living Large, welcome to the forum! Look forward to better times. You may experience some bumps along the road to better health, but you won't ever be in those dark places you endured before. Welcome to a brighter side of life. The issues with your mom are rough. I hope you can work through them. Somtimes it helps to write a letter... -
ARCHIVED Cupcakes
Marilyn R replied to come dance with me's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think the fundraiser is great, but I would say that I personally wouldn't pay $8.50 for six cupcakes unless I knew you personally and knew your kitchen. I wouldn't be willing to drill you with questions, because I would have eaten before I went to the event, and I wouldn't want to create drama. If you're well known in the cummunity and there are people... -
ARCHIVED Overwhelmed- What To Do Next?
Marilyn R replied to Goddessheart's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I've never become bloated from RiceDream milk, but my primary issues are neuro and digestive. I gave up my rice milk. And I've recently given up legumes and I'm feeling so much better. I still get carbs from root veggies. Eventually I may try adding things back. I still seem low on energy, but I'm functioning better. Good luck! It's a tough... -
What's so confounding is that your new reaction could be from eating more fiber, which your digestive system may not be used to, or from the dairy. If you didn't feel nautious this morning, maybe it's just from adding fiber, but that's just a guess. I don't know if you need to buy a freezer, but I know for sure you have to start cooking. A slow...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Dairy Free
Marilyn R replied to krystynycole's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Is she expecting you to make a gluten-free/Dairy Free Birthday Cake? I'm pretty sure there are recipes like that on this site if you use the search engine. If not, "Living Without" has some recipes if you register. If you have seedless watermelons available in your area, it could be cool to carve and decorate a watermelon. You may even be able... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Testing Inconclusive?
Marilyn R replied to luluo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Luluo, and welcome to the forum! I appreciate your post, because my neurologist wants me to have genetic testing even though I had negative blood tests and an upper endoscopy that came back negative. My neurologist wants me to have genetic testing. She already made me endure an EMG and also wants a nerve culture. After researching nerve culture... -
You won't have to eat dirt, but that is a great analogy. I've been so sick that I wished I didn't have to eat anything, just take a food pill. You're working very long hours, that's really rough. There are some really good posts on menu ideas on the forum for breakfast and lunch, and an ongoing one on What's for Dinner, hope you've seen that. ...

I loved the Spoon Theory Link! Thank you for that. I've told my family and friends that I need to be Howie Mendel (OCD) when it comes to gluten. I think it was a good move to keep your game pieces gluten-free.
-
Dear bartful, I'm so sorry you are feeling so bad. I don't have reactions to my skin from celiac disease yet, but my primary issues are neuro, and here's what I've learned so far. It might be good to give up all processed food (including UDI's for a little while). Go with whole foods, like fish and meat, fruits and vegetables, especially root veg...

ARCHIVED Can Someone Give Me Info About Canning Stuff?
Marilyn R replied to shayre's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I grew up canning. We canned everything Mom could think of. We canned pears, peaches, cherries, relish, pickled peaches, pickles (all kinds), we froze corn by the gunny sack full, french sliced beans and more cherries. Made our own grape juice. Froze a mountain of strawberry sauce and bluebeeries. We always used the boiling water bath method. Maybe... -
ARCHIVED Coping With Uninformed People
Marilyn R replied to JaniceS's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It helps so much to learn here, and to be able to vent. I bet the co-workers that commented on your slim frame were overweight! (I usually thank them for their concern, let them know I'm getting better, and walk away thinking about how they're going to stuff another donut hole in their mouth.) Here's how I stopped the (it seemed like daily) derogatory... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cocktails?
Marilyn R replied to keithceliac2010's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Blue Ice is a highly rated vodka made in the USA from Idaho taters. Luksusowa is a triple distilled Polish pototo vodka. I'm sipping on a potato vodka/watermelon slush with a fresh basil leaf and a drizzle of cranberry juice. At the moment, I can't think of anything I'd rather be drinking. -
Pork & Gluten ?
Marilyn R replied to svs's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It may be time to go get poked by the allergist (hoping you have insurance). I used to lay in bed thinking, will it get better? I'd wonder if I should give up all meat because all animals eat grain. I'd already given up gin because the triple distillation process didn't seem to work for me. Turned out I was allergic to turkey (never liked...
