jenvan posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm sure many of you don't visit the clanthompson.com site often...but they have a section called gluten alerts which lists ingredient changes etc in products. I went there today and saw this below... I have rec'd homestyle in the past, so it seems no Duncan Hines Frostings are gluten-free now. I have not been in store to ck the label myself, but be aware... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Not Really Gain Or Lose Weight After Becoming gluten-free?
jenvan replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hmmm... I gained 6lbs after going gluten-free, after about 6mos and I've lost 3 of that So in a few more I'll be back to my normal, which for me is a healthy weight. I attribute part of those 6lbs to not having energy to work out and trying to many gluten-free baked goods! -

this wouldn't apply to your coffee if it was black, but are you always drinking diet or artificially sweetened beverages. artificial sweetners cause GI symptoms in some folks, i can't have it myself b/c of what it does to me... just another thing to think about.

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Terrified Of V-day?!
jenvan replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Ha ha! Heart shaped gluten...that is very funny Do you know where you are going to dinner? If so, you could call ahead and let the chef know you will need a special, gluten/allergy-free meal. Some easy options that allow for less discussion than complicated dishes, soups, sauces or desserts: 1) salad w/oil and vinegar dressing, or lemon (or bring... -

jgeeningie-- A crumb--yes, it could hurt you, especially if you continue to have crumbs frequently over a long period of time. Strive for no gluten, no contamination. I saw you are cancer free 10 years--that's awesome! (Can I ask what kind of cancer?) I'm sure you've heard of increased cancer rates in Celiacs... As for pots/pans... As Rachel... -
I can not have any caffeine--gives me bad abdominal pains also. I haven't had caffeine in over 10 years. I can't even do caffeine free teas, only herbal. No decaf coffee either.

Go here and scroll down to see pill cam images of Celiac: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I can't find the article, but I read one on the pill cam being an inferior means to diagnosing Celiac. I would say the endoscopy/biopsy is better. The pill cam is not a microscope and can only show regular images. Sometimes that means showing... -

My problem with brands like McCann's--a study was done on them where they were over codex standards for gluten in the batches tested--contaminated. From McCann's website below... If someone wants me to find the study, I can do that. 3 brands were tested, all had gluten contamination. "All McCann’s oat products are processed in a dedicated oatmeal m... -

ARCHIVED More Oat Questions
jenvan replied to chrissy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Christine--It is wise to be cautious about oats. 2 reasons why I don't: 1) the only way IMO to know if you are truly reacting to oats would be follow up testing, endoscopy, blood work etc. somtimes internal damage can be occurring without an exterior manifestations or symptoms. 2) i have not as of yet seen or been convinced of a completely gluten-free... -
I have those toaster bags myself and they are definitely easier to take with than a toaster, so you may want to try them.

ARCHIVED Allergic?
jenvan replied to gointribal's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
As Tiffany said, a food intolerance (IgG) is different from an allergy (IgE) and it will not show up on a conventional allergy test. Case in point--I am "allergic" IgE to nothing, but I am intolerant to many many foods. If you want ot ck either of these you must be sure to get the correct tests. -
Lollie- I wish your mom would get it... It sounds like she can be hard to deal with, but if you're up for it, I'd say try and gently, yet firmly lay it out for her. Tell her how her tone and words make you feel, that her support is important to you. If you try and its no help, you may need to set boundaries with her. That can be harder up front, but...

Absolutely...most chocolate has dairy in it. There are 2 brands I know of that are casein free: enjoylife's chocolate chips, and all of Tropical Sources chocolate products.
