ARCHIVED What Are Your Corn Intolerant Symptoms?
skbird replied to skbird's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for the replies. I had great improvements in my symptoms of everything when I first went low carb - part of how I figured out I needed to get rid of gluten. Huge difference! When I first started eating corn again I didn't notice anything off. But when I was early on low carb I was at a party and decided to cave and eat a couple of Fritos. I have... -
ARCHIVED What Are Your Corn Intolerant Symptoms?
skbird posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been having some general issues lately with my digestion and I'm trying to figure out if corn is a problem for me. I can be a bit of a corn-aholic and easily become dependant on daily corn chips, corn tortillas, polenta, whatever. When I went low carb 3 years ago and dumped corn, that was one of the hardest things for me to give up. I don't recall... -
The closest one to me is 3 hours away in San Jose but I put it in my address book just in case... That would be cool! Stephanie

ARCHIVED Thirsty After Going Gluten Free
skbird replied to Eliza13's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Also, if you cut a lot of carbs you will experience exactly those symptoms. People on Atkins, especially when they first start have a lot of issues with being thirsty and bad breath. They call it "low carber breath". I don't know the science behind it but it does happen. I don't *think* it happened to me but I did chew a lot of gum during the time I was low... -
Cool! Which one was this? Thanks! Stephanie

ARCHIVED Need To Talk About Oatmeal
skbird replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Isn't there also a concern about where the oats are grown - cross contamination in the field, not just the processing facility? I keep toying with the idea of having oats but I'm just not willing enough to risk it. Stephanie -
I'm not officially diagnosed, either. I did tell my doctor I was feeling better after going gluten-free for two weeks and asked if I could have tests and he said that actually, seeing a change on a diet is as good a diagnosis as any other - keep it up for 6 months and reevaluate. At that time I did the EnteroLab test and found some answers to how I have been...

It's a difficult poll for me because the products are apples and oranges - I can't say that I like one more than any others because they are for different stuff. I like Pamelas for the cookies and I like Tinkyada pasta - I can't choose between them. When you set up a poll though you can choose to allow people to respond or not, and I think that the person...

Because I'm hypoglycemic on top of things, I can only get away with some sweet if I balance with fat and fiber so I often go with yogurts lately. I take plain yogurt with live cultures and add maple syrup, flax oil, flax meal, sliced almonds, cinnamon, and this morning added additionally coconut and rice bran. It is delicious! On colder days I have quinoa...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Dog Food?
skbird replied to KaitiUSA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I may try switching my cat food, after this thread. I have been using Science Diet Light/Hairball as my one cat, who is most of the time a constant barfer, doesn't barf hardly at all on this one. She does on Iams, she does on Science Diet sensitive stomach, and when I tried making food for her, using recipes I found on the web - using mackerel, chicken liver... -
Has it been properly diagnosed as excema? I have had something akin to a rash on my scalp, off and on, and it seems more like little pimples. But whenever I am on a B-complex, it goes away. If I lag for more than a couple of weeks without taking it, they come back. I also get excema on my hands, small little outbreaks that look like tapioca pearls on...

ARCHIVED I Do Not Understand This...
skbird replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi - I was on a low carb diet for more than two years before going gluten free, then went gluten free for nearly 6 months before getting EnteroLab testing done. I figured that would still notice antibodies as I did eat some gluten during low carb days, esp. right before going gluten-free as I was adding a bunch of whole grains back into my diet (and... -
ARCHIVED Too Good To Be True?
skbird replied to connole1056's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just because it is or was currently a bad resource, doesn't mean it can't become a good resource. I think it's great people have gone and put in their two cents. I really liked your longer post, celiac3270, backing up why you were putting the info on the board to begin with. You have a great way of reasoning out your thoughts. Stephanie -
ARCHIVED Poop
skbird replied to Eliza13's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mine change and then they change again. Reading the perfect stool, according to Oprah's expert - I have had those at times. But most of the time they float, are lumpy, sometimes burn, require cleanup (though not bad in the last week or two) and often times have food in them still undigested. Not bad. Usual suspects mostly like corn and nuts. I have been... -
ARCHIVED Movie Theater Popcorn
skbird replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh Nisla - Hitchhikers was awesome!!! I wanna go back for another shot. This is funny because I wanted popcorn and my husband wouldn't let me (after seeing how sick I got the last two times) even though I told him I'd had it there before, no problem. Funny... Steph -
So over the weekend my husband gets up and makes breakfast - bacon and eggs. He asked if I wanted a scrambled egg and I couldn't decide - remembering this thread, but finally said sure. Then I got all excited about eating the eggs and bacon so I go in the kitchen, get one whif of the egg and feel like throwing up. Believe it or not I ate the egg and was...

Awesome! Thanks for the lemon chicken recipe - I was looking for one last night (had a craving) and couldn't find one. Cool! Stephanie

Good to know! I may check in with him. The one GI in Chico is a hard ass (from what I've heard) and doesn't believe anything is a problem with anyone unless they are dying. I have no desire to waste money on that. I also heard he is fairly insulting. Don't know firsthand but that's enough to make me not care to persue the elusive appointment with him... ...

ARCHIVED Poop
skbird replied to Eliza13's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi - I know that B vitamins will make your urine bright yellow. Not sure which one of them it is but every time I take a B supplement, I'll have the bright yellow urine. I thought it was weird but have learned that it is fairly universal. I can't comment on the poop, suffice to say when I am feeling the best, mine is something like your's. I'm happy... -
I am not sure how I feel about this diet. I am type A and I got interested when I read the forbidden list and found a bunch of foods that I eat but always felt a little off after - like garbanzo beans, for example. So I did try that for a couple of months but felt no different in the long run - actually felt worse as it told me for my blood type I should...

ARCHIVED Possible Cd?
skbird replied to Larteun's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Interesting that a high Alk Phosphatase is indicative of celiac disease. I have not been diagnosed with celiac disease but gluten-intolerance, yet my Alk-P has always been lower than the normal range. My doctor always blows over it, saying no biggie - only worry when it's high. But I did some research and found a reference that says it could indicate... -
ARCHIVED What Is Your Ethnic Origin?
skbird replied to Emme999's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm 3/4 Dutch and the last 1/4 is split between Welsh and Scottish. When I got my gene test though I have DQ3-9 which is a big Mediterannean gene. When I Google it it comes up with all this info about Iranian women and even Brazillian women but none of my nationality. I thought that was interesting and asked EnteroLab about it - they said probably just... -
You might want to get in touch with a local support group - I know there is one in Carmichael, maybe Sacramento too. I live in Chico - a little farther away than I'd want to drive for a support group so I haven't gone. But they might have recommendations... Stephanie

Well it sounds like this is a different kind of experience than I've had - but also makes me think of something else that I've had a problem with as well. A year and a half ago I was in France for Christmas and eating more bread than I had in ages. Most of the way through the trip I suddenly had this mother-of-god bad pain in my left rib cage, on my side...

ARCHIVED Amy's
skbird replied to jknnej's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have only had the rice mac and cheese (no problem there) and the teryaki bowl and I had a little problem with that one but I don't do well with any fermented tamari, even the wheat/gluten free variety. I only use Braggs liquid aminos for "soy sauce"... Stephanie
