  1. Try some L-Lysine. It's an amino acid and very helpful for canker sores.
  2. I had recurring mouth/gum sores before DX. As Richard has suggested, it may be too early for them to have disappeared just yet. You may still have them pop up for a few weeks-months. It does not necessarily mean you were glutened or that they are related to anything else. Give it some time. Mine are all gone now.
  3. There is a discussion of food colorings on gluten free faces (I tried to link it but it would not work.) Looks like The McCormick ones are safe. McCormick Response: Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate your interest in our Assorted Food Color (Four Pack) and welcome the opportunity to be of assistance to...
  4. just one time?? Lucky girl indeed! I know where all the bathrooms are within a 150 mile radius of my house. ah, the good old days....
  5. You do not want me to get started on doctors. They literally kept me ill by misdiagnosing me. I could sue 2 of them, but I won't. I have no faith in the AMA anymore...except, I DO like my new GI doc, but only because he is celiac-savvy and is willing to listen, follows through on my after care every 3 months--- and actually likes it that I BRING...
  6. Your Mom CAN have pizza and burgers. Get Gluten Free Pantry pizza and bread mixes. People on here say they are pretty good. Udi's makes a burger roll, I believe? Keep me posted--and you are very welcome! Hope it helped!
  7. That's right--A reports she does feel better! Best "diagnostic" tool? Symptom resolution.
  8. Too bad you are having so much trouble getting PLAIN meat. Geesh! But I saw in your other post that you have found someone for fresh poultry! good! As my Mom has asked "WHY do they have to put wheat IN everything? Leave my food alone!!"
  9. That's about as fresh as it gets! Must be very tasty! I am still looking for any scientific evidence that gluten can pass into an animal's meat and then affect those gluten intolerants who eat it. Just so we can put this issue to rest! If an animal is sick, well, yes, that's a different thing. If you--or anyone finds anything--please...
  10. Tell me when. I'll come! Ditto on giving the guests what they love/need!!I have always made my friends and family their favorite things for dinner and dessert! That's the best part of cooking for others. This woman comes off as Cruella DeVille.
  11. My apologies; it appears the link I provided earlier in the thread was broken. Source: g f -glutenfree.com Frequently asked Questions Q. If I am a celiac, can I eat meat from animals that are fed on a grain diet? A. All (non- processed) meat is gluten free. If the animal is fed a grain that contains gluten i.e. wheat or barley...
  12. (1) Your doctor is wrong. A DQ2 is a DQ2--or so MY doctor tells me--and from what I have read. ANY risk is a risk. I often wonder what doctors would think of the dismissive things they say to patients if THEY were ill every single day of their lives and had a doctor speak to them that way. (geesh, don't get me started on docs! ) And if you had stopped...
  13. It is widely debated --especially among those of us who are sensitive to low levels of gluten--about how much gluten is "too much". The best researchers have found that under <20 ppm is considered "safe" but clearly, people report continuing symptoms from foods labeled "gluten free". The best approach for those people is to steer clear of any packaged...
  14. My cousin's wife gave me that tip after I complained LOUDLY that it was too mushy!! It works every darn time--13 mins.---whether it is elbows or penne or ziti! I tell everyone. Fettucini, huh? YUM---I'll have to get some--thanks a bunch!
  15. Sounds like a gluten intolerance to me, if not Celiac. Just my opinion. Your HLA DQ2 subset 2.2 BTW?--accounts for 2% of celiacs. I'm one of them...Nice to meet you! there are likely many more of us. Researchers are still working on it. I have often wondered how many people with "dementia" are actually in a gluten-induced haze. Gluten is a neurotoxin...
  16. I am sorry you are feeling so poorly and I imagine you are pretty fed up right now. Don't blame you one bit. I had all these symptoms myself and about 3 dozen more. Just awful, I know. Post-surgery will make you feel lousy, so that may take a few days to wear off. You had anesthesia and believe me, in a leaky gut situation, where your body is really...
  17. Oh Babs, I can only imagine your frustration, yet you have been doing so well, though! Traveling to Greece, etc! I am mightily impressed. You may need to write an article, describing your ,ahem, "adventures".... as a "Celiac Abroad", yes? IH
  18. This DERM needs to send this GI some CURRENT medical info that states plainly that DH IS the skin manifestation of CELIAC!!!!!! For theloveofmike.... She can DX them with biopsy of the lesions.
  19. Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season. Rest up, recharge and bask in the love of your family. You're one courageous chick, and don't you forget it! Defying the doctors has made me feel pretty good---you should too! You're a warrior princess! My thoughts and prayers, IH
  20. These wise people have given you many good suggestions (is it trace gluten? did you change your routine? is it another food intolerance?), but I wonder about the dairy. Try staying off it for a while--like a month-- and see if you improve. Then, try adding it back in slowly. Metamucil will just clog up the works. If you do use it, be sure to drink...
  21. darn, you beat me to it!
  22. My GI doc told me he biopsied a man who had neither of these genes and his villi were totally flat. He said "so much for the 'celiac genes"."
  23. I hate to say what I said out loud when I read this earlier today, but it rhymes with witch. What a lovely, compassionate attitude to have, Martha. She's supposed to be a "gracious hostess"?? She's a hack anyway. I never thought anything she did was that spectacular. I sent this to my cousin's wife with celiac disease--her reply was...
  24. Was going to suggest this myself. Maybe he has something at a friend's house? Just once and a while and does not think it's a big deal? I know if I were his age, I'd be tempted.
