  1. I do not know why you persist in perpetuating this myth, Nick. We have told you before that the distillation process renders the gluten harmless. I have given you the science to read and I have linked you to the celiac research centers that say it is safe for celiacs. If there were gluten in plain alcohol,--vodka, gin, whiskey, etc.-- I'd be dead...
  2. Just posted this on another thread, but it seems to be relevant to this one, too. Forgive the old "cut and paste" ...I'm lazy today. Here goes. A restaurant that boasts a "gluten free menu" does not guarantee safety for people with diagnosed celiac disease. Once I see HOW and WHERE the food is being prepped in some kitchens and the surly/dismissive...
  3. actually, no. I know--you would think a New England Yankee like me would do that, but I am a purist. I only like apple and sage stuffing. But yes, I love oysters. Oysters rockefeller. oh boy. (holy smokes, I just drooled a little.........)
  4. I suggest reading the book Real Life with Celiac Disease by Melinda Dennis and Daniel Leffler. Living a strict gluten free life does not mean living in a bubble. I do not freak out over flour or bread crumbs (in fact, the only thing I might freak out over is if I saw George Clooney or Andy Garcia sitting next to me in a bar ) but I would carefully wash...
  5. I am always happy to hear my friends are enjoying better health, reintroducing foods without adverse reactions and in general, enjoying life as they so richly deserve! So whooooohoooo! There was a time when I could barely eat anything, my GI tract was a such a burning, churning mess and then, the histamine intolerance made me so unhappy, but all that...
  6. You sure eat well, Laura that all sounds like yum! Hey, I noticed your profile message says you've got extra coupons for people you wish to share. That's very sweet of you! I hope people take you up on it.
  7. As long as you had a wonderful time with your Mom. That's all that matters. We had a beef prime rib Saturday and I imagine it will reinvent itself as sandwiches today. A bit of horseradish cream, onions on a baguette. I also have a pate and some creamy brie. Maybe more baguette. Maybe sweet potato fries. And champagne. The last of the big honking tub...
  8. Guys, look! there are more tips here. Love the GFgoddess. Great stuff! Open Original Shared Link
  9. Excellent! I am so happy you are feeling better, Jess! It is wonderful that you can get cromolyn at a CVS. Such a simple remedy for such horrid symptoms. Too bad more docs do not know about this treatment. Quercetin 500 mg/day has completely stopped those histamine responses in me and I feel so much better than I did for so long. I highly recommend...
  10. or that someone's old post about what she thought might be happening with "run off chocolate" being gluten cc was not really factual or valid, or whatever. so are we "all good" here? hope so.
  11. P.S. if you are dairy free, here is an apple crisp you make easily and bring with you! ....maybe get some So Delicious coconut milk ice cream to go with it. Open Original Shared Link
  12. Some people use the Newbie 101 thread to explain cross contamination issues, and while I may have written that thread and I stand by all the info in it, notice I never wrote a single sentence proclaiming: you can't eat at someone's house. Because I do not believe that. I have dined successfully at people's homes and I am very sensitive to trace gluten. If...
  13. I have been touting nuts.com on here for so long, GottaSki Lisa told them they should give me a discount. (they didn't). boo! anyhoo.... I think all their G F stuff is Fab!! enjoy your nuts, you little nut!
  14. All right, everyone.....I may have written that Newbie 101 thread and I stand by all the info in it, but I never wrote a single sentence proclaiming: you can't eat at someone's house. Because I do not believe that. This is how you survive Thanksgiving at someone's house: (1)My friend is making an unstuffed turkey in a silver foil pan I gave her ...
  15. Updated 11/22/13 Additional suggestions for avoiding cross contamination in your home. • Don’t use wooden spoons or cutting boards that also are used to prepare gluten-containing foods because the spoons and boards can harbor residual gluten and bacteria. Metal or plastic are better options. • Cover shared grilling surfaces when barbequing becau...
  16. I just called! Thanks, Col Not saying what I asked for.
  17. can't see it, sorry. I fed them in my backyard for years. (deer, not hunters and would NEVER allow them to hunt on my property even though they tried it anyway. I had a gun, too. And they did not get past me. ) They have soulful eyes. They are not armed.(again, I mean the deer lol)...but, hey. to each his own. I don't judge. and before you all yell...
  18. I warned you, my love. I warned you. Muffins = muffin tops. believe me, I know....
  19. You're welcome, but seriously, I have never, ever heard of subbing in a pack of vanilla pudding for vanilla. I am surprised it did not throw off the ratio of wet to dry ingredients and collapse them, so Good job! See, you can cook! And seriously, time to step away from the muffins, babes. Now see! There's always a sub, (but just don't use pencils...
  20. OMG! are you freakin kidding me? those are awesome. I've got my spoon ready. Hit me! YUM! Okay, Bday week started Monday. Tonight is PIZZA night whoohoo! Tomorrow, I will enjoy mussels Josephine, grilled Chilean Sea bass with mango salsa, jasmine rice and asparagus. Dessert will be Creme Brulee, but I am not making it. Bonefish Grill is. ...
  21. omg....you're hilarious, you little whacko.
  22. Hon, I am not a "bickerer". But I do like to be clear when I provide information about products. I asked you a simple question --was this information on their website. You cited your source as a post on the forum---this is a member's theory about "chocolate run-off". I felt it was not a valid source and you got defensive. You turned it into a discussion...
  23. You miss my point entirely. . Everything I, personally, know about celiac has come from reading celiac research. I was addressing what you said about the "run-off chocolate containing gluten". You took this whole approach of turning it into a discussion about celiac and doctors. Not even sure why. I was making the point that no one should take...
  24. That's true. I was just checking to see if you're awake.
