ARCHIVED Pharmacists--Ugh!
bartfull replied to christianmom247's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Because I have gluten/soy/corn intolerance, I get my meds made at a compounding pharmacy. My doctor writes it on the 'script', and yeah, it costs a little more, but I know I am safe. -
ARCHIVED Contamination On Food Boxes
bartfull replied to heidi b's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
And the FAMILY MEMBERS can do things for the LOVE of the OP - like allowing him/her to eat foods containing gluten when there is NO CHANCE of contaminating THEM. -

"And I have a salty crunchy snack, and a sweet snack to keep me on the straight and narrow." The salty crunchy snack is the pistachios, and the sweet snack is the ice cream. -
ARCHIVED Ice Cream
bartfull replied to JordanW's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I DO have a problem with corn as well as gluten and soy. Some Ben and Jerry's works for me, particularly pistashio, now that I can eat those delightful things again. I also eat Hagen Daz. The chocolate seems to give me trouble, but I can eat their vanilla. I also absolutely LOVE Starbucks plain coffee ice cream. (Most coffe ice creams taste like coffe syrup... -
ARCHIVED Withdrawl Y Or N
bartfull replied to DawnMarie127's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I LIVED on gluten, and I did have withdrawal symptoms, but they only lasted a few weeks, and during that time OTHER things started feeling better so it was no big deal. -
ARCHIVED How Many Food Groups Can A Person Be Intollerant To!
bartfull replied to Fairy Dancer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was going to reply, but as usual, there's not much I can add to the great info Mushroom has given you. Except that I am just now coming out of the place you are at after a year. I'm finally healed enough that I am able to add back some of the foods I have lost. I'm hoping to get nightshades back eventually too because I LOVE potatoes. But in the meantime... -
Temporary Tattoos
bartfull replied to 123glldd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
One of my banjo students gave me some frogs last night. I'm going to wait until Saturday and make the first eight people who show up for the jam session wear them. And if I'm in a particularly "evil" mood, I'm going to tell them that they have to play every song this day in the key of F. I always joke with my regulars that it is my shop, so they have... -
ARCHIVED 3 Years Into gluten-free Diet And Tired Of Being Different
bartfull replied to lloydke's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went to a restaurant with some friends last night. They were eating pizza, and one of them had a burger and fries. It all looked so good, but I wasn't even tempted - THIS TIME. There have been other times though, that I felt exactly the way you describe. In those moments, I have started repeating this mantra - "Grace and style. I am going to get through... -
ARCHIVED Afraid To Say It Out Loud
bartfull replied to bartfull's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I still never got the MRI. Some friends were talking about a benefit party for me but when our local no-kill animal shelter burned to the ground (they lost 11 dogs and one cat), I put on a benefit party for them instead. Then smene else did too. And after that there was ANOTHER benefit party for them (Can you tell we lve animals here?) People are benefitted... -
ARCHIVED Afraid To Say It Out Loud
bartfull replied to bartfull's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks my friends. Even though TMJ was one of the first things they ruled out, I know stress does make the jaw worse. Personally I think (even though the dentists have said it's not possible) that it is a wisdom tooth that never came in. It is hooked under the jawbone and I think it is moving around in there. The pain centers around the exact spot where the... -
I've been gluten-free for a year now. Developed intolerances to other things (corn, soy, nightshades, and a few other things I have no idea about why). I was under a lot of stress for the six months between November and the end of April, trying to take care of my friend who had terminal cancer. I have had unexplained jaw pain that would come on and...

ARCHIVED Oh, It's Just The New Thing!
bartfull replied to KMMO320's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As more and more people hear about it, even if it is through the hype from the famous people who are going gluten-free without needing to, more and more people might put two and two together. If people who actually HAVE Celiac discover it and start eating gluten-free and thereby prevent all of the terrible things that can happen to a Celiac who continues... -

You are playing with fire if you intentionally eat something you are allergic to. You could develop life threatening symptoms at any time. The first time my Dad reacted to penicillin he had a little bit of a rash. The next time he ended up in the hospital for weeks and almost died. The next time you eat peanut butter you may get an anaphalatic reaction, and...

ARCHIVED Gluten And Corn Free Tea
bartfull replied to GFreeMO's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I just googled loose leaf tea and one of the ones that came up was Twinings. THAT'S the one I have at home! I make it in my french press and it's good. -
Flour dust settles on everything. Every time you touch ANYTHING at work you are getting it on your hands. As much as you love your job, if I were you I would find another way to make a living. You may find, even if you go work someplace else, that you will develop intolerances to other foods. For me it was corn and nightshades. Whole foods are the way...

After I had been gluten-free for about six or seven months. i went to a friend's birthday party and drank tequila. Tequila had bee my drink of choice for many years and believe me, I could put away a LOT of it. But that night I had about two drinks over the course of four hours. I was SO drunk and SO sick, I vowed I'd never drink again. And I haven't...

So from what I see here, oats might give a digestive issue, but no damage? So maybe, seeing I don't get much by way of digestive issues, I might be able to eat them? It's been almost a year gluten-free now. I think I may just try oats, and if they work, I can get oat flour? Now, something a bit off topic: Dani, every time I scroll down and...

ARCHIVED Sad :( Aggressive Brain Tumor
bartfull replied to Di2011's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just lost a dear friend to breast cancer at the young age of 54. But when it's a child! Oh, when it's a child. Prayers to you and your family. I am SO sorry! -
ARCHIVED I Just Want Some Virtual Hugs
bartfull replied to aquaholical's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Having to deal with constant pain while you are going through this is almost too much for anyone to deal with. Yet you are doing it. You must be a very strong person, and are to be admired for still working. If you think taking time off would help, do it. If you think continuing to work will keep your mind occupied so you have something else to think about... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Still Feeling Horrible
bartfull replied to gf-calgarian's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
By three weeks in I was feeling fantastic! Then the other food intolerances set in. It's been almost a year now and through trial and error, I THINK I am finally getting better, but still not as much energy as I felt that magical third week. Maybe someday... -
ARCHIVED "Seasoning" & "Seasoning Mixes"
bartfull replied to krohde73's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry. I read it on one of the corn allergy sites. THIS site though, seems to have more accurate information than any of the corn sites. I wish I had known sooner - I gave all of my spices away... -
ARCHIVED "Seasoning" & "Seasoning Mixes"
bartfull replied to krohde73's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know the OP never mentioned corn, but for those of us with corn intolerance, even something as simple as garlic powder or onion powder are not safe. They use corn starch to keep them from clumpong up. -
No drink means no water either.
