  1. Find a new doctor. You are at a high risk for Hashimoto's - you need to know if you have the antibodies. You need to know if you are deficient in vitamins/minerals. Some people can benefit from thyroid medication/treatment when their tests results are normal. Read in the About.com thyroid section for info, references. Obviously, something is going...
  2. Ooh, thank you! She really IS a goddess!
  3. There's a whole string of posts on cast iron...yes, you can reseason. I put mine in the oven on 500 for a few hours (smell is awful), scrubbed with scour pad and Bon Ami and reseasoned. Good as new! You know the old stuff has burned off when there's a grey coating all over the pan.
  4. The ones I've found still rely heavily on mixing in flour. I was hoping for something more nuts, less filler..,
  5. I'm loving this thread! So many good ideas, almost makes me want to bake. Anyone have or know of a good nut meal /flour pie crust recipe? I'm thinking I'd like it better than a "white" gluten-free substitute.
  6. It's neither here nor there.... As one of those adrenally challenged patients (and it's a toss-up as to what caused the adrenal damage) it's irrelevant. When you arrive at a certain point you just end up at the hospital. When gluten=freak out and you can't breathe or eat or drink you don't split hairs, you just stay the heck away from gluten if it's...
  7. No. But I was a French bread girl. I am unimpressed with gluten-free bread.
  8. Tell them to start baking. It IS a kid's recipe!
  9. Ironically enough, this is from Emeril's kid's cookbook. But man oh man is it good. I've never made this without everyone going nuts...this is always hubby's birthday cake. I make a Commander's Palace Creole Cream Cheese Cheesecake for Christmas... I'll post that next moth . I have some gluten-free graham cracker crumbs, and bought some crunchy...
  10. Ok, I see I see. I'll go to the computer. Can't do this on the phone....
  11. They have Whole Foods in NOLA. I would pack any processed food you need to Gulf Shores. Google health food stores and see what's available. I would take some small casserole dishes, baking tins with me so I could cook my stuff in seperate containers. Perhaps some serving spoons so you know there are enough at the condo. A colander? I think there's a gluten...
  12. You'll notice this isn't about you, it's about HER. I really think that's what is behind a majority of these sarcastic reactions.
  13. You have to have an active lesion, newer the better. There's some literature out of the UK, specifically, they says a gluten-free diet can reduce the chance of a correct biopsy. I've never seen that mentioned in US literature, but doesn't mean it isn't there.... So, if gluten-free removes the rash, you need to keep eating it. If you still have a rash...
  14. I had nausea after STARTING iron and D (I am low on both) but it has subsided.
  15. Try going to the Hershey's website. I believe they tell how to use cocoa in place of hard chocolate. The point is that when you heat cocoa it changes the flavor (strength, depth). Some people can't use any bar chocolates and use cocoa as a substitute.
  16. Yum. You also "activate" cocoa with heat...you could use cocoa like bar chocolate that way, also. Just combine with hot water.
  17. This is completely out of my field; however, this is a thought....because I can't resist..... Most plants and animals develop defense mechanisms to aid survival. Why couldn't Celiac (or DNA based gluten intolerance) be a defense mechanism of sorts - "don't eat this, it makes you sick"? The Paleos will love that idea .
  18. I have a recipe that sounds similar...bread crumbs and nuts and buttercream frosting. It is fabulous!
  19. Stress? My husband has "white coat syndrome", sometimes when just THINKING of a white coat. Every time his bp is taken at a medical facility it's high. When he takes it at home (first thing in the morning, in a quiet place) it's normal. Drives both of us nuts because he won't go to a doctor about ANYTHING because they take his bp and get obsessed...
  20. I ate at JBar (Tucson) the other night....had the fish tacos and they were divine. In the middle of it, I started wondering....did the risotto have something in it? It was so good! Jicama salad was straight-forward ...the combo was wonderful. THEN the dessert....by luck the Janos dessert menu (sister restaurant next door) had a tasting selection AND THEY...
  21. Son of a biscuit eater, my first cousin has Crohn's! I guess I know who I'm talking to next....
  22. To the OP.... Perhaps what your Mom needs is to see you not eat her food. Perhaps that will knock some sense into her? I doubt letting you help her cook would be the end of her world. She'll learn. And if she doesn't-oh we'll. Move on and find other things to talk about. I'd go - Thanksgiving is about more than the meal...,but I'd take my own food!...
  23. Use an oil like safflower, olive, etc. in the skillet. Cook as usual. What causes the spasms? Stress, stomach upset? You've hot to start filling your stomach with something benign - water, stock, broth, gluten-free soup (look at whole foods). Eating only an apple won't cut it, and is probably contributing to the problem. Eat a well balanced meal, EVERY...
